Reviews for Oral-B

← Back to Oral-B

The brush is fine, but the app is one of the worst Bluetooth experiences I've ever had. It connects to the base station instead of the brush half the time, no matter how much you waive the brush. And short of closing the app and reopening, there is no way to get it to switch. Sometimes, it just doesn't detect that you are brushing at all. Or it thinks you are brushing a side different from the actual one you are brushing. Or it refuses to acknowledge you covered a spot. Or the image is too dim.

Ever since you removed the camera access and relied solely on Bluetooth, position detection for brushing my teeth has become horrible. There's no way to sugarcoat it. When the app was using the camera, I always got 100% in just over 2 minutes. Now I'm lucky if it registers 75%. And that's only if I brush for 3 minutes. As a software developer, I have to say this is a major design flaw. Please bring back the camera access at least as an option and I will give 5 stars. Thank you.

It's awesome when it works but position detection is hit or miss. It's very frustrating to get a low brushing score when the app isn't recognizing that you did hit all areas. There's no work around for it, you just have to take the hit. Sometimes it starts as an unguided session, no rhyme or reason for that & if you back out to get the guided session to pop up it dings you. The toothbrush is too expensive for the app not to work as it should. Edit suggestion doesn't help

If you're getting the brush for the app, avoid! My ability to connect degraded, and now no matter what I can't get it linked. Uninstall, factory reset, etc. My Bluetooth sees the brush fine (shows in list of available devices) but the app says it can't see it. Unless they fix this, I'd recommend a different system. Sad, because when it worked, I liked it.

This app is okay. It doesn't really seem to correctly identify where the brush is in relation to the teeth, meaning you need to over brush just to get a 100% completion record. It's also become a lot buggier since upgrading to Android 15. The counter pauses and jumps, instead of a smooth count. Even worse, the detection system fails to identify where the brush is on relation to my teeth a large majority of the time, and gets disconnected from the brush regularly. Please update the app.

Topthbrush is great and feels great. The app goals for each brush seem good. However, the overall score is very confusing. You can brush for 2 mins flat and only cover 90% of your mouth (stopping while everything is light blue isntead of white) and get a 98%. Or get 100% coverage and brush for 3 minutes and score a 92%. The score doesn't matter unless you're new to electric toothbrushes and trying to track overall progress and improve dental hygiene, like I am.

Brush no longer connects to the app. Before then, the tracking was worse after the update than when it used the camera. It's gone from being a smart brush to a dumb one. Update: The brush connects...most of the time, but often disconnects. When it is connected, the tracking is inaccurate. It seems to think that I never brush the lower-left quadrant. Once, it said I had 0% coverage after 3 minutes of brushing.

I appreciate all the tutorials that explain how to use an electric toothbrush as I've never had one before. The guided sessions could be good, but if you need to pause to spit, you can say goodbye to accurate tracking. The app shows that the session is paused; when I turn the power back on, the timer resumes in-app and I complete the 2+ minutes of brushing. Once it's done, the app smirks at me and says "try going a full 2 minutes next time!" First half is listed as a separate unguided session.

UPDATE 3/20/24 The brush is still fantastic but the app needs work. It has definitely gotten more stable over the years but has its issues. Great Brush! Mediocre App. The brush doesn't always connect. The brush tracking doesn't work so it won't give you a score. The brush disconnects mid brush and inaccurately records the session. This new version of the app removed the pulse every 30 seconds. There's a lot of work to do to get this app to be what it promises to be. Great idea but it has holes.

Overall, I like the idea of gamifying mundane activities like brushing your teeth. It keeps me consistent. And this app does a decent job at it. But the app is just OK. It's not a particularly intuitive app to use, like it doesn't have a good menu structure. Trying to find things can be very annoying. Somethings work well like the reminders. But for everything that works, there's things that dont, like syncing. For example, I just switched phones. The app is supposed to sync with my profile. Well, none of my months of syncing shows up on the new phone. Or like I'll have a 30 day brushing streak going, but all of sudden the streak breaks and I've done nothing differently from the day before . Like why is the streak gone? The pression detection doesn't make sense. You'll be brushing in a spot but the app shows you brushing in a different area. People should just use the app as an accountability partner. The other features arent fleshed out enough for anything else

The app often doesn't get the area detection right leading to over brushing to get 100% coverage. It also frequently registers 0 seconds brushed after a session that clearly had a time just before turning the brush off. Add in several random disconnects & sessions being broken up when it does register a time brushing and it seems you would be better off just brushing without the app. If it's not going to work right maybe save us all some money by ditching the app & charging less for the brush.

The app is good, but the guided brushing feature needs some work in the accuracy area. It doesn't matter how long I brush or at what speed I move the brush, one portion of the diagram never registers that it has been brushed. in comparison, the ring on the base is far more accurate but doesn't seem to count in the app.

The app is just okay, I like that it lets you know if you are applying too much pressure. It would be nice if it had a setting or feature that reminds you to brush/use the app while brushing. I typically forget that I even have the app so information isn't quite accurate. Also adding more to the app would be nice like what type of brush head is best for me, or tips to improve so you're not using too much pressure, or ways to get the best out of their Oral-B toothbrush. Things like that.

I am not sure who programs this app but it continues to be close to useless. I will start to brush and the app will state, "Brushing Paused." Then another dialog box comes up encouraging me to brush longer. I close the app and open it again and the time comes up but it gets stuck. So, I close and open it again and the timer has made progress but does not move. After opening and closing it four times it the timer reaches its end but again it is static.

Edit: Still having the same problems. Solutions provided by support do not help. The app needs a lot of work. Sometimes it doesn't start a session right and I have to restart the app. Goals tell me to use modes my brush doesn't even have. Very inaccurate with where I'm currently brushing. Random unguided sessions randomly pop into my history that never happened. Session time constantly gets logged wrong (always over 2 minutes but sometimes it says 30 seconds or even 0)

One good update, one broken update. Still unable to detect the position in the corners of the mouth, and now introducing new annoying settings active by default. No, I don't want to save the session if I pause after 2 minutes. And stop creating multiple unguided sessions for yesterday's guided session. Nice when it works. Edit: lately, if it works once in 4 usages, it's an achievement. Dropping from 3 to 1 star, since detection has gotten significantly worse (older handle).

App is pretty easy to use once you get used to it. Can't add 2 toothbrushes to one device, some people don't own 5 different smart phones /tablets, so even though having 2 or more toothbrushes you can only use one per device. Kids who still don't have all second molars get lower score because there is literally nothing to brush except gums. Or people who maybe miss a few teeth because of medical reasons. Also I live in Germany and app forces me to change my language in my phone to German

You need my state now? Why not just fix all the flaws in this horrible app. Complete trash. It keeps logging me out and when I log back in it thinks it's my first login and none of my stuff is there. I don't think they will ever get the app working properly. The latest update won't let the brush connect and won't let me log in to my account. It didn't work well before but now it doesn't work at all. An already bad experience is now even worse.

Update: and they broke it again. Looks like it is time to delete it again. It can't do the one thing I need, keep time while brushing. I just use the stop watch app. It at least keeps time, once I can start it. The brush still works fine. But I really prefer the brush that came with a separate timer and gave me a happy face and didn't need my phone

A week ago, the app started crashing as soon as I turned my toothbrush off when I finished brushing. It logged some sessions, but not all of them. I decided to uninstall the app and re-install it and it doesn't crash anymore, except now all my previous data is useless. I signed into my account and while my previous sessions do appear in the history tab, they all are listed as "unguided" which means they don't count for anything, and is especially frustrating given they were ALL guided sessions.
