I opened the app expecting everything to be ready to go after the whole process of configuring what would be the best Paladin tailored just for me... but just like every other app, all that was just for show and to lure me in because after opening the app I got to spend the first 30 mins going through the whole damn thing AGAIN!! Including my age, what interests me the most, favorite topics, answering 3 questions in order to find out where to start, even though a report was made just for that!??
Reviews for Paladin: Learn History
Oke app, right now there is not enough content for daily usage. But more stories are added regularly. So every once in a while it is fun. The language used in the app can be quite childish, but probably i'm not the exact right audience for that. I like the duolingo style set up for the stories, but I wish it would go a bit more in depth. Even with the extra facts included you are not passing that history exam. Luckily there is still Wikipedia.
such a great idea absolutely ruined by overuse of ai. game-ifying learning history is a great idea, the quizzes at the end are fun. everything is AI, from the stories to the art, to the voices, even the adverts for the paid version of the app. it has no soul and reeks of lazy developers who just want money. most of the history stories available are very american-centric and at times come across as if the AI thinks it is telling the story to a child rather than an adult.
The app has a 7 day free trial which you can cancel. I see people say they got tricked but on my end I clearly saw where it was and was able to cancel it. The app itself is great. As it says there are small bite sized lessons to enjoy. Lots of different historical figures as well. My only complaint is the stupid use of AI in the in app advertisements for the Pro service. Devs needs to do better on that. App is great besides that.
If I had to give a reason for the lack of the fifth star, it would just be that I wish the stories were a bit more detailed/descriptive. However, this is the most fun I've ever had learning history Edit: No changes to my review, just a suggestion! You should add a way for users to suggest historical figures for future updates! I have a few people I'd love to see added (like William Kidd) but don't know how to make suggestions!
I downloaded this as a fun way to learn history in my downtime. I didn't expect documentary level descriptions or anything like that, but the few stories I've gone through have read to me like AI slop that was barely proofread before getting copied and pasted into the app. It definitely didn't meet my expectations. I suppose if you're going through these with your kid they're pretty simple and good in that sense hence the 2 star, but for someone who's hoping to actually learn, look elsewhere.
Not upfront about cost! Was sold on the advertisement that this was the duolingo of history. I opened the app, created a username and password, and went through a lengthy questionnaire. I was excited to get started, but only then was i notified this is a 7 day trial, then $69.99/yr. Would have preferred the app explained this wasn't free like duolingo right from the beginning. I find this tactic to be deceptive.
Broken in game volume buttons. Random changes in volume from story to story. Can't read quite a bit of the content. Hardly any content. Quizzes that include content that was not in the episode. Only 26 episodes and they last about thirty minutes, tops. These are all quite easy to fix but right now this definitely is NOT worth the price. I'm actually going to request a refund.
Get rid of this AI garbage. I decided to put that first to make my point clear. This app overuses AI at every turn. Even representing historic figures. I'd much rather have genuine paintings or anything we can use to show historic documents rather than simple ai creation. I'll use this app because I want to replace doomscrolling with microlearning.. it does that part well.. but PLEASE DEVELOPERS.. give us a healthy combo here. Ai is fine paired with genuine artifacts, paintings, etc
There are a few things I don't like... I love the fact that it reads to me, but the 2 issues lie with this feature. The app stops reading the articles after a bit (I have to restart to get it back), and if there is another section, it automatically skips ahead without opening it, so I am missing half my stories. The stories so far are also all pretty common, nothing new yet. I'm hoping for someone I don't know anything about to be added soon.
