Literally the worst smart phone app I have ever used. I have to force quit & restart the app, and reboot the card reader at most, after 3 transactions, and often, for every single sale. When business is busy and (hundreds of sales per day) it can easily quadruple the time to run a CC. Often the card reader goes to sleep and wont reconnect, or the app freezes. Also, a MASSIVE pain to have to manually turn on sales tax for EVERY SINGLE SALE. Consider other payment processors. Zettle has issues.
Reviews for PayPal POS (ex Zettle)
← Back to PayPal POS (ex Zettle)A big downgrade from PayPal Here. Used PayPal Here for several years without issues. After they discontinued PayPal Here and forced me into Zettle, I've had nothing but issues. When it works, it works okay. Paired no problem but even when plugged in, it doesn't stay connected and can take up to 3 minutes to connect to the reader. This makes busy events VERY frustrating for both the customer and myself. You also can't transfer your funds directly from the app, you need the PayPal app to do that.
I am so disappointed I have made the commitment to use this software for my POS food truck. The UI is way too simple for us. We need many options for when customers order things such as combos, ala carte, items with extra cheese for instance, items with no onions for instance. When I am editing and adding new items the system won't remember where I rearrange items. Sometimes it won't put items in the designated folders I created. I have already spent money on the card reader, the printer. I have found no support from Zettle and only have been directed to PayPal customer support that do not give acceptable answers since they have no idea what I am talking about. The final problem is that the full name of the owner of our business gets printed on the recipes since that is the person who is attached to the PayPal account. Why in the world is there not an option to hide the name from the printer? The owner is not on the truck day to day and she and the food truck are not the same person. We have multiple owners and investors. Her name should be private.
Paypal has officially gone to sh$*. Today was last time i deal with this garbage reader n app. Terrible. Switching to another payment processor. Won't stay connected. Overly complicated. Unreliable. Major step back from paypal here. Takes longer to do everything. Takes several minutes to connect for each transaction, and often it doesn't work. Reports are delayed and aren't accurate in real time. Getting to checkout is cumbersome. Easily the worst payment app I've ever used.
Used this card reader for the first time this weekend and it was seriously unreliable. It constantly disconnected from the app every time the device or my phone went to sleep, and it takes forever to reconnect. Customers aren't generally patient people, so this device hurt sales rather than helped. The only way I could keep the devices connected was to have them both plugged in to a backup battery so they would stay on and not go to sleep in-between sales. Pretty annoying overall.
When you set the default tax rate, it doesn't stay locked in. You have to change it for each transaction and it's very annoying, especially if you have multiple tax rates already set for the system. There is an issue with Venmo glitching out during transactions with customers. It will pull their funds from their accounts, and venmo does not credit our side of the transaction.
Utterly useless. My POS card reader broke so I thought to myself "It's ok, they have an app; you can take payment on that, but you CAN'T. It will only allow me to connect to a reader which is what has broken. I've now had to borrow an iphone - because the app on there allows customers to tap the phone for payment - until a new reader arrived.
absolutely atrocious - forced to upgrade, forced to purchase a new reader, all for less functionality than PayPal Here. Have to choose between percentage and dollar amount for the tip, have to ask the customer if they want to tip (how tacky can you get), the screen on the reader is ridiculously small so my older clients have trouble seeing it. Such garbage. Going to check Square out since this app is so pathetic.
Same issues as everyone else. The app itself is fine, but if the card reader keeps dropping the connection, payments don't go through, shows clients payment went through when it doesn't, holding funds for 21 days, tip option is less than great, this just isn't going to work for me. Just bring back paypal here, everything was fine until the switch to this. Been with PayPal since taking cards for business, but currently looking at other options because this Zettle/PayPal is a train wreck.
I've had a PP business account for years. I made the switch over to Zettle for taking credit cares at vendor events. The app worked great for a bit, but now I can't even get it to open long enough to pair my CC reader. It keeps crashing within a few seconds of opening it. You can't process payments w/o the app, and I'm stuck standing there looking like an idiot. I've un-installed/reinstalled, sign in/out multiple times, and nothing works. It pains me, but I'm going to have to switch to Square.
Horrible reader. Horrible app. Doesn't accept checks anymore, and clients have to add tip before putting in the card or it will decline. You also cannot do change, only whole dollar amounts. I run my business my own specific way that my clients prefer and Paypal decides their way is "better". It isn't. Just give me the option to accept other payments. I hate everything about this new app.
So, there's no way to use this system without the device? So 1, I have to wait til it arrives, and I also have to take it with me when I need it outside the shop? The previous PayPal Pay Here system was so much better, equipment was fine but not absolutely necessary and I hardly used it, with immediate access to funds. $100+ off the top for equipment? That don't even work well?
I'm losing sales because the reader won't stay connected or times out and I have to rerun cards. Paid 80 for this and the first one was broke. Lost days of sales because of having to wait for another one. I Che k for updates constantly and it doesn't help the speed. Why mess with something that worked fine? You forced us to Zettle from PayPal, we shouldn't have had to buy another swiper if you wanted us to use it. Going to look for a different system which is sad, had PP over 20 yrs .
While the features and layout of the app is okay, the hoops you have to jump through to use this service is not worth it. My first card reader arrived damaged and the second one arrived after the event despite it having plenty of shipping time and overnight delivery. Then I got an email about a month later that limited the account I have never used for no reason, then an automatic deactivated email was sent in error when I tried to resolve the unnecessary limitation. I lost business due to this.
I had a PP account for 21 years, never had an issue before. PayPal Here worked great. Didn't want to switch to Zettle, but I had no choice. The first time I used Zettle point of sale, my account got blocked. Funds frozen, couldn't even issue a refund to my customer. Glad, I have Square. I'd like to get my money back for the card reader, since it is useless now.
In a word: horrible. Despite having had to pay $80 for each reader, they barely work. Every single transaction requires the reader to reconnect with the app, a process that takes anywhere from 2-5 minutes. Other times a transaction will stop processing so the reader can reconnect again, causing the sale to have to be redone. This app and the overpriced readers are slow, cumbersome, and unreliable.
I can't add new items and it's too complicated. When a customer add their info they don't want to "be in the know" and it won't go past that screen. It should be simple. Add an item, add a customer. PayPal Here was "a little" more simple but not by much. I just want to add items and customers. There's no use in having this app if I can't get the simplest features. PayPal won't be my business solutions. 😔
Pretty decent little point of sale system that works great for me! The only improvement I would make to the app itself is that I wish there was a better way of sorting items I have for sale. (Ex: I sell lots of jewelry at different price points. It would be helpful to have a Folder option, where I could select Necklaces, for example, then be able to sort all of my necklace listings there.) When you have many items for sale, the tiles can get cluttered and it's hard to find what you need quickly.
So far, I like the PayPal Here App better. I liked how PayPal Here had both custom amount and percent amount for tip and that it was the same place that the customer signed. You didn't have to ask the customer for a tip. They just saw it when they went to sign. Also, the card reader they gave me doesn't have a swipe reader. Some credit cards or gift cards don't have a chip, and if I have to enter it manually then I get charged more.
Needed this app to set up receiving contactkess payments by phone. Can't get this to work despite following instructions, get an infinite loading screen. Contacting their customer service is also inconvenient as it puts you through specific topics and none of them address this issue, and the option to reach out doesn't actually do anything, dead link. I already use PayPal for my nonprofit but since contactless doesn't work, this app provides no extra functionality.
