I originally started the free trial to watch The Green Mile. I've experienced a lot of ads for a $20 service, but nothing too overwhelming, but when I noticed that you're not allowed to skip forward during the movie, I instantly disliked it. Even free services allow you to time skip the movie and not the ads, its it's insane, and on top of that you're paying $20. Absolutely not. Made a bad first impression.
Reviews for Philo: Shows, Movies, Live TV.
← Back to Philo: Shows, Movies, Live TV.I think the app is wonderful, it has a lot of channels that I watch. It's would be a 5 star but my only complaints are that, I wish when watching shows on the DVR it would automatically jump to the next episode. Also, if u accidentally hit the fast forward button during an advertisement, the timer starts over and you are forced to watch the whole entire ad again.
While viewing the guide, when you select a channel to watch, it keeps spinning like it's loading. You have to return to the guide and re-select the channel and then it loads. Also, there has been lag (nothing major) where the loading symbol appears briefly and sometimes up to 15 seconds. I have gigabit and the device is wired. ALL other streaming services work without issues. This has been going on for 2 years! And yes, my device is up to date. Sigh....READ REVIEWS and take ownership!!!!
Update to previous: My app is up to date and no I won't be contacting support. You really need to work out the bugs with the connection to chromecast!!!! Today has been the worst and I'm considering canceling my subscription because I can't watch 10-15 minutes of a movie without the connection dropping. Don't say it's my chromecast or wifi because this isn't happening with any other streaming app. I have contacted support a few times and they do not have fixes.
I'm glad I haven't put a card to my account to pay for this. The episodes play for not even 5 minutes, then it goes to the buffer symbol. Not only that, even after making sure there was no connection issues on my end, I still have issues watching anything. Seems like the company needs to fix some bugs and such to come up with an update. I have it both on my phone and Fire TV. One wi-fi and one works with my mobile data. Having issues both ways with connection. Until fixed, I don't recommend.
The price is a little spendy for the level of stored content mixed with the commercial frequency, and the app isn't available for PlayStation users (which is my primary source). They also seemingly recently removed the "New Episodes This Week Section" which was how I decided what to watch on it. Otherwise, it's quite nice; the content isn't widely available elsewhere, and the app itself works well.
They just keep raising the price. It's cheaper to have Hulu, Disney+, Max and Netflix all together. Used to have less advertisements and be able to skip through them and now there's advertisements that last up to 5 minutes and pop up like every 10 minutes and you can't skip them anymore. They're just money driven now and don't care about customer experience. This has become the most expensive streaming app on my fire stick. I've been a subscriber for years. Used to pay 19, last month 25, now 28.
It has all the episodes of Mythbusters, which I like, since I am autistic and that is a comfort show for me. What I DONT like is that yall have so many ads that it turns a 45 minute episode of Mythbusters into an HOUR AND A HALF. You add nearly 30 minutes of ads to a 45 minute show. That's annoying, and for the price we pay, that shouldn't be the case. That's, like, 1 minute of commercial for ever 3 minutes of show. It's ridiculous. Otherwise, good app, good selection, and good price. 👍
I've had philo since 2019 and while the price keeps going up, the quality isn't. The app takes longer to load, you can only watch shows (episodes) that haven't aired recently if you save them (possibly), all the episodes of series aren't available, and there are increasingly more ads, and the SAME ads play over and over. It's the most annoying! If I wanted to watch commercials with every show, I'd just watch antenna TV. Not sure I'll be a customer much longer with the mounting issues.
17 commercials back to back! This is excessive! Especially since I pay for the service. Will not be paying for another month of this. I am paying to watch programs not commercials. I'm literally getting 10% program and 90% adds. I got the app because it has 1 program I like to watch, and at 25 dollars a month, it's not worth it, when I'm seeing more adds than program.
Great app! To address what others are complaining about: I have vision issues and I can see everything just fine, there are the same amount of ads as every other streaming app. And this one is significantly less in price! IF YOU DONT WANT ADS DONT WATCH LIVE TV. Philo is excellent, highly recommend! So easy to record and you can record as much as you want for 30 days! If you dont watch it by then, you probably weren't going to watch it anyway!
Love the show options! That's why I didn't rate it 1 star. The excessive ads are making me want to cancel. It has gotten worse too. A 45 minute show is 2 hours long because of ads! That's beyond ridiculous!! I literally watched 3 minutes of the show and then had over 5 minutes of ads. This is my most expensive streaming service and my other ones are without ads. For this much it should be no ads and make a cheaper option with ads. As soon as I'm done with this show, I'm canceling!!
I'm not understanding how we're asked to pay 25 dollars a month, and there's still so many ads. And the ads are almost 3 mins long! Plus there's no rewind button, you just have to guess how long ago you want to rewind it, and there's no skip ahead button to fast forward the parts I already seen. I just wanted to watch JSFV season 6&7 and this is the only place to watch it. So pleeease either lower your monthly cost or get rid of there being soooo many ads!!!
My subscription is increasing from $20 to $25 in September after many years of being locked in at $20. I will probably cancel because Philo is already limited in their channels and doesn't offer many of the major channels. And the DVR... it's just saving a movie or program and watching it later. It's not recorded and will disappear when it's no longer available. Also, they don't offer live channels.
The OS can be cleaned up.. The "New" icon for shows pops up when it wants to.. It doesn't keep track of the shows that you've watched very well.. It's tough to determine if you've watched a certain episode yet or not.. If the rate continues to go up and the OS stays the same, you're gonna lose a customer of 4 years.. There's more stuff I could list, but we'll see what the near future brings... Not holding my breath...
Has good shows but 25 bucks a month and you have to sit through multiple minutes of adds constantly. If I'm paying that much for a subscription, I would like there to be little to NO adds Update: The pricing went up to 28 bucks a month. 30$ after taxes. If you're watching a show, you have to watch commercials every 5 minutes ( not exaggerating) way overpriced, and you're basically watching more commercials than anything.
Been a customer for years. Started with a T-Mobile discount code and have never left. Price has went up here and there but not much. Still way cheaper than the competition. There's another price increase coming but they are also now including HBO and Discovery so I'm not complaining. We switched from Roku TVs to Fire TVs and have had no issues. I recommend Philo to everyone. They have so much to choose from and I love how much I'm able to record to watch at later times.
The user interface across multiple devices is not great. If I start watching a show on my Samsung TV and then I come into my bedroom to either cast (from an android mobile device application) or watch directly on my old Vizio TV, the service is unable to pick up where you left off from various devices. I also found the user interface on any of the apps is a bit difficult to navigate. It's not nearly as comprehensive as the other streaming services that I use, such as Netflix or Amazon Prime.
Okay so, tubi makes you watch the ads because that's how they make money. This app also forces you to watch the ads, even though you are paying $32 a month, which is way more than it was when I tried it a year ago. That's exactly why we're switching from YouTube TV because they're raising prices too. If you start a program and jump to the beginning, it's nice to be able to skip through the commercials. They're not commercials then they're ads which is not the same as cable.
The app doesn't work half the time and for the amount of money you pay for monthly you would think there would be an option for commercial free. Way too many commercials. I will not be signing up a second time. Responding to the response below. I did visit the help support option and there was no resolution to fix the issue. The issue was briefly fixed and then problems started happening again. No thanks!
