Reviews for Piano by Yousician

One of the worst apps for learning anything I've ever seen. I'll play the right note and it will mark it as wrong. So after that I tried the built-in piano and all it did was lag and pause for no reason. It only gives you 10 minutes to practice a day. Not to mention the unskippable, obnoxious premium ads I get bombarded with everytime I press continue. Every single time without an exception. Truly one of the worst learning apps I've seen in a while, it's a frustrating experience all around.

For the most part, it's fine. However, my biggest issue with it is that, at the beginning of each lesson, it shows you which notes and positions you'll need to use for the lesson, great! Then as you get further, it presents only the first hand position you'll use, making it so you get halfway through a lesson and then it throws something completely different at you and just expects you to be able to rush a position change with absolutely zero warning.

To be honest, it's a great app. I tried out most of the instruments, including ukulele, piano, and guitar, and it really helped me learn from beginner to pro. It can be frustrating sometimes with the constant ads for the paid version, but I don't really mind. Highly recommended for playing any instrument. Obviously, this is just an extension of the full app, Yousician. I'm not sure why they need a whole separate app just for one instrument, since all of the other options are in the same app, meh

I love this app, worth the price, easy to understand and a great way to learn to play piano. Yes, Iwould like it to have more songs I knew, but I also understand that the rights to songs cost $ for the developers, so I prefer not to be so demanding and appreciate all the work thwyve put into what they currently have because I have learned quite a bit from zero. Kiitos!

This app is so helpful! I love it so much. I started as a beginer but knowing how to read extremely easy sheet music .I haven't bought the plus yet but it's still great without it. The only thing u can't do without plus is chosen songs but they still give you free practice songs. And without plus you have a limited lesson time everyday (I think 10 mins) but the next day it refreshes. I love this app so much and would recommend! :)

As a complete beginner who didn't know where to start, this app has frustrated me more than anything. The $20 a month plan doesn't even get you all the songs. More importantly, having just completed level 3, I don't feel like I've learned much. It just shoves a bunch of songs in your face without much explanation of what's going on. When trying to read sheet music, I realized the app hadn't taught me anything useful. Finger placement isn't clear. This app is not comparable to a good teacher.

Love this app so far! I love how it progresses in difficulty and teaches you things one step at a time. A few things: the timing for when the notes are supposed to be played is slightly off and therefore my timing can't sync and I end up missing the notes. ..another thing is, I'm having difficulty reading the notes since I haven't memorized the scale yet. There are different notation views which is awesome, but I need one that had the note letters and has the real symbols also.

Pretty good app for practicing. I used to think it was 4 stars since in the free version you can actually practice a fair amount in a day but now with the latest update you get kicked off in the middle. I had even considered switching to premium but now I'm a little too annoyed and might research other options. I wish there were more learning apps that could be like duolingo 😅

I had high hopes for this. The interface is nice and seems intuitive to use. However, it's just not accurate with my keyboard and phone. I'll play notes that are right on and have them intermittently marked red, as if I'd not played them at all. At the same time, I've had repeated notes marked as correct when they're clearly not, so I have no confidence that this software can teach me to play correctly with the setup I have. What a pity.

After trying this for a few weeks the "gaming" novelty wore off quickly. The music that plays while you do was distracting and is made more annoying by having to turn it off every time you play. No ability to pause and let you catch up when you make a mistake, song choices I felt were lacking, and the condescending voice that regurgitate platitudes when you mess up was grating. All made worse by the fact that I had to sign up for a year to get a trial and guess what? No refunds.

I found it to be gimmicky, overcomplicated, and the teaching voices sound condescending to me. I also was frustrated by the program using a 3 stars rating system based on how well it determined you play based on rhythm and tone when it doesn't always register the note you're hitting. I was playing notes for too long just to get the microphone to pick it up, which is a bad habit to get into. I eventually went with a different app, Flowkey, which is a no-frills alternative that's not as judgy.

I think ultimately this just depends on what you're looking for in a casual education. I come from a classical saxophone background so it makes more sense to learn from high quality literature; I wanted to moreso experience the quality of the lessons, and I think they're fine for what it is. The premium bundles are absolutely overpriced though. The worst thing is just the basic theory foundation. I felt like I was losing brain cells reading the colored notes with no rhythmic notation.

An amazing app to help you learn the piano. Aside from similar apps, it did a great job picking up whatever note was played. I also like the selection of songs available from their built in songbook. Most songs feature a list of different versions of the song from the melody (which is the least difficult) to a full-blown solo (the most difficult).

Yousician is a great way to learn an instrument... but the piano lessons need some polishing (especially compared to the guitar, which is amazingly thorough). In the first couple of levels, lots of bits are missing. Some of them may be intentional choices like assuming you know how to read music. Some are obvious mistakes, like the Am chord lesson not being included in the lessons flow, but other lessons referencing it like you already learned it. I would love more technique instruction too.

Honestly the best app to learn piano, guitar, bass, or even vocals. Clean, Simple, and will have you playing well know songs in weeks. Continue the regimen and you can learn to play a new instrument or at the very least be inspired to practice more! No ads and it's a quick 15 min for free or unlimited for $11 a month plus it will come with newer more popular songs.

I have not used the app for the piano lesson yet. My rating only comes from the fact that once the 7 day trial is over, you are charged the full amount for a 1 year subscription. I was under the impression that I could pay a month to month subscription. I don't like that you're charged the full amount when there hasn't been enough time to even test the app to see if it works/is a good fit for learning piano. I may ask for a refund and cancel for this reason. Cost is $139/yr

The app is barely functional. Save your money. Loved it at first, but wish i hadn't wasted money on a yearlong subscription. Every update makes the app harder to use. I can barely get through a lesson anymore as it jumps around, giving me things that are much too advanced or that I've never learned before, and the audio is completely screwed up, so even when I get to practice something at my level, it won't register the notes and tells me I got everything wrong.

This is only a "free" app for your right hand basics. Not free for your left hand or anything else. To answer yousician Ltd, I don't have a problem with interruptions or limitations. I fully expect commercials with FREE apps. You should clearly state only the first 6 lessons are free and no skipping lessons. That way I wouldn't waste my time on an app that isn't really free.

it's a fun way to learn while using popular songs. loving it so far. the only thing I hate is the auto correct. if I miss a note please just let me miss it and give me a bad score. or allow me to slow down the tempo like the guitar ver. it's hard to rejoin when they stop the song constantly. wish there was at least a turn off option.

The app itself is very nice and is one of the only ones to listen to your actual playing and provide feedback. That said, be aware that from the app, you can only sign up for a yearly subscription at 13.74/month, and you can only cancel within the first 7 days - after that, you are locked into paying each month for the whole year even if you cancel. The only way I can find to sign up on a month by month basis is via their website, and it will cost you 29.99/ month.
