I've used the website for atleast 3 years and was really excited when the app was released. Unfortunately I have experienced quite a few issues, the multitude of ads, this random beeping noise, and frequently being rerouted to malware sites. It may be understandable that I can't enjoy this app as I wished I could. The ads can be annoying, the beeping jumpscares me, and the redirecting to malware sites make me feel unsafe using this app. I apologize, but I would not recommend using this app much.
Reviews for Picrew PFP & OC Maker
← Back to Picrew PFP & OC Makeri love this app so much. its so fun to create and be able to find artists. however there are SO many ads and they always start with sound. sometimes audio will start playing from the app without an add popup and no indication of where to turn it off. the only way i know its from picrew is because when i close the app, the sound stops.
So this game is very nice, theres many opinions to choose from and many cute OC's to make. But, there is an issue with the app. When I'm creating a new avatar it always sends me to this sketchy website that tells me data is in threat or something like that and I close out of the website, and it just shuts down the game so I have to find the same avatar all over again. It's very annoying.
i love using the image makers. when i can. i'm constantly clicking on makers i want to use, only to immediately lose them forever because an ad that takes you out of the app plays. i do mean Forever too, as i've yet to see a single maker i clicked again unless i've saved it. can't save them even if i had the available bookmarks though. i might go back to the browser version if this keeps happening :/
The ads are INSUFFERABLE. Anytime you navigate away, you get an ad. Every other action, an ad. Tired of visual ads? Theres audio ads. I tried to make 1 character and got redirected to google for the same fake antivirus ad 5 TIMES, each time opening 2 tabs of the same ad. 5 TIMES in less than 10 minutes! And the worst part is that, since it navigated away from the app, I got ANOTHER ad. Also while signing in, account verification navigation caused another ad which cancelled my sign-in process.
I love Picrew and their platform, I use it all the time whenever I need a small distraction or something to do in the background. However, using the app has become extremely frustrating, the ads are extremely intrusive, some randomly direct you to your browser out of the app to shady ad websites which then often leads you to lose any progress you had made when you try to re-enter the app. I understand that money and ad revenue is needed to keep Picrew running, but the ads are horribly intrusive.
the amount of ads is enough that I'm not sure if I should keep using this app. the audio ones are the worst because they cannot be muted for the first several seconds. some amount of ads to keep the app free is understandable but it's very heavy handed. the app also makes my phone heat up when I use it. I think that being able to save finished images somewhere in the app (instead of or in addition to downloading them) would be a good feature.
far too many ads. an ad before the game loads in, one after you select an image maker, a banner at the bottom, a little theater window that you can mute, but it still lowers the volume of your music. not to mention the forced ads that take you out of the app, to the app store or webpage, and when you get back to picrew, you get another ad wall.
ads will pop up randomly and play excessively loud noises on opening a creator, and if you leave the app at any point even accidentally you will have to sit through another ad. I get needing to make money somehow but this is worse than the unobtrusive ads from the website variant. cannot recommend app in good conscience knowing there's a better option. would be 5 stars if it were closer to the website.
Overall it is a good app, it's just the amount of ads disrupting my time on it is annoying. if I accidentally get off the app for not even a minute, it gives me an add, or even if I press play on one of the options, or even randomly when I'm making a character, it'll give me an add. adds are okay, I just find them annoying when I watch an add more that I actually use the app, which is what tends to happen on this app. not exactly a 10/10, but I have no issues other than the ads.
the ads are so overwhelming on the app. I used to be able to listen to music while making picrews but there's constant audio ads playing. Plus, if you just change tabs for a moment and return it refreshes all of the ads. very aggravating, the app has no noise so I don't understand why there's constant audio ads that you cannot mute until almost 15 seconds in.
There is a paywall on some ridiculous stuff. Pictures, bookmarks, whatever. Then, you got Picrews, whatever, you go in, and there are ads. Banner ad, ad that plays after you open it, and an audio ad you can't really turn off. Thats not my issue, what my issue is, is that Picrew has an unreliable source where its ads come from, so you'll get sent to websites that are those classic "your computer has virus" sites, and not only that, the app crashes. ALOT. Just stick to the website, apps not safe
I used the browser version all the time and used to love it. Sadly, the app is riddled with ads and nearly unusable at times because of it. I also had intrusive audio ads that scared me when they suddenly started playing. The actual makers function just fine and are just as easy to use as the browser version, which is the only reason this gets 3 stars instead of a lower rating.
Advertising is excessive. Use the browser version. I've loved this platform, however the app's pop-up ads take away from the experience. If you tap off the app to answer a text, you'll be given an ad, you'll recieve one when opening the app, then one upon opening a maker, and one after completing as well. There is an audio ad occasionally playing, and always an ad at the bottom of the screen. That's over 5 advertisements for 1 session if you don't stay on the app the whole time.
I use this app very often to make OC's and it works very well! My only complaint is that the ads sometimes kick me off the character maker I'm using, or kicks me off when I accidentally close the app for even a split second.. It gets frustrating when I'm not able to favorite the one I was using before that happens and I can't find it again..
It's great for making characters and oc's, but the ridiculous amount of ads and times the game will kick you out or crash for no reason is honestly making me question why I still have the game. please, for the love of God creators, fix this, its annoying and tedious to use the app.the sad thing is,the concept itself is very good and is a great place to, again, make characters, but with all the glitches and adds its really not worth it in the end.
I love picrew and I've been using it on the website for years, been using the app but it randomly stopped letting me sign in with Google. it would give me the number to put in and then when I put it in the app crashed and I had to do it again. this cycle happened for over five minutes before I gave up. The app is usable without signing in but the app has a problem of crashing every time you exit the page, including ads. every time you get an ad the app crashes and you get ads regularly.
I can hardly do a few things in the app without getting a random ad popping up on screen. Even when I'm doing something important like making an account. What's worse is that a lot of the ads have sounds for some reason, meaning I'll randomly get a random advertisement blaring at me. I also keep getting the SDK/"Sharing Info" pop up as well after hitting disagree multiple times. Somehow it feels far more clunky than the site and it's honestly unfortunate.
the fact that the ads are STILL a major issue for this app in 2025 is wild. I've been a big fan of picrew for years, and I was so when there was an app for it. I understand needing ads for profit here and there, but EVERYTHING gives you an ad. Switched to another app to send a text? Ad as soon as you come back. Want to try another maker? Ad. Not to mention half of the time these ads are just fake malware ads meant to trick people.
Used to be fun, but it just isn't worth the excessive ads. Videos every time you close and reopen the window, audio ads playing over everything you do, invisible ads that you can click without even trying... It's incredibly irritating and unnecessary, I understand that you have to have some advertising to keep it free but surely you don't need all this.
