Been using Pinwheel Caregiver for a couple months now. It’s basically an app that lets you control and configure a special ‘Pinwheel’ phone for your kid. The idea is to give them a safe first smartphone that you can manage.
There’s a lot of cool features in the Caregiver app. You can handpick which contacts your kid can call and text, so no random strangers getting through. And you can enable or disable specific apps on their phone – no app store, so the app choices are all in your hands, not theirs. Took me a bit to figure out at first, but it’s pretty easy to use once you get the hang of it.
Look, if you’re a parent who wants to give your kid a smartphone but keep them safe, you’ll probably like this. It’s not perfect – the Pinwheel phone is a bit limited compared to a regular Android or iPhone, and the app can be glitchy sometimes. But overall, it does a solid job of giving your kid a healthy tech experience. Worth checking out if that’s what you’re looking for.
