I've done maybe a dozen cooks on my PB 1150. Now every time it thanks me for completing my first cook. I have several 'cooks' where all I was doing was clearing the feeder. it would be nice if there were a way to delete unwanted cooks. also I've had several cooks either duplicate or span cook sessions. I'm not sure if that is a result of a cook running overnight.
the app fails to give any notifications on when anything reaches temperature. any saved history on cooks, doesn't have a graph of the temperature reading saved, so all the information is useless. unfortunately this is probably going to lead me to go to a Traeger that has a better technological function. though I do love the duel Grill & smoker combo that it has, even though they are mostly too small for most brisket or pork shoulder cooks.
I really like the app and being able to control my smoker from inside my house. only thing I wish to see in this app in the future is a little bit more details in the cooking analytics area of the app so that I can take notes when I'm smoking a brisket of when the stall begins and get an average based on my climate. that way I can truly dial in my brisket game. another thing that would be cool is be able to set parameters based other parameters but that one is less necessary
Update-Its a year later and the app still sucks. 🤷🏽♀️ The smoker is decent. The app is awful. It is constantly doing updates that prevent you from using the app. The updates always seem to be required after you have already started cooking. After my most recent update the app opens, but doesn't allow me to set the temperature and the thermometer reader is not working even though I have a thermometer plugged in. I have deleted and restarted 3 times.
I didn't have any initial connection problems following the recommended settings exactly. I applaud the security others complained about- intelligent appliances are a usually brainless way into someone's private network. Everything came up and i was able to set a cook timer. I was hopeful the other complaints weren't going to apply. At that point, the "won't update" and loss of any control happened. Even though it said it loaded, after the timer expired, the grill kept going flat out. Oh well.
I'll be cooking something and I'll go to another app on my phone, make a phone call or even put my phone down and I'll come back later and it has to reconnect to the grill and then the temp defaults to 180f. I've reinstalled and tried keeping the app open ( not ideal as I use my phone for a lot of things) and it still fails to keep the temp. the app- not useful. something changed, it never used to do that. just manually set and don't download the app.
They broke the app. Won't even open for me. Would have been better off just deferring the app off to the generic one like they used to instead of trying to brand their own. At least that one opened.. Edit: They've come a long way with this app (thankfully). It's very usable. Requires some strange test to run mostly everytime you open the app during a cook which does give me some pause as to if it's disconnecting / grill turned off or by design.
Absolute Garbage. I've tried using the app for the first time after using the smoker on its own for several months with just the control panel. I've been very happy with the smoker and gotten the feel for it now, I figured it was time to do a longer more complex smoke, which the app would be perfect for. Well, it won't connect, and if it does, it won't stay connected. I'm extremely pissed off at one of the main selling features of my nearly $1000 smoker NOT WORKING!!
Doesn't work anymore. Used to be able to connect and controll the grill but once we connect it never updates any values on the phone, nor on the grill. doesn't seem to work over WiFi at all and constantly says it can't connect. I see it on the DCHP clients on my router and can ping it, but the app seems to refuse to even try. Bluetooth can "connect" but that's it. it won't even tell me the current temp on the grill when it's on and running
This app is pretty trash. It's clunky, the layout is a mess, and it randomly closes when I have it running in the background so when I open it up, it has to replay the boot animation and reconnect to the grill. The only useful thing it does is allow you to control the temperature from your phone, as long as you're still on your wifi or within Bluetooth distance. That's the only redeemable thing about this app. Rebuild it from the ground up.
