I've done maybe a dozen cooks on my PB 1150. Now every time it thanks me for completing my first cook. I have several 'cooks' where all I was doing was clearing the feeder. it would be nice if there were a way to delete unwanted cooks. also I've had several cooks either duplicate or span cook sessions. I'm not sure if that is a result of a cook running overnight.

the app fails to give any notifications on when anything reaches temperature. any saved history on cooks, doesn't have a graph of the temperature reading saved, so all the information is useless. unfortunately this is probably going to lead me to go to a Traeger that has a better technological function. though I do love the duel Grill & smoker combo that it has, even though they are mostly too small for most brisket or pork shoulder cooks.

I really like the app and being able to control my smoker from inside my house. only thing I wish to see in this app in the future is a little bit more details in the cooking analytics area of the app so that I can take notes when I'm smoking a brisket of when the stall begins and get an average based on my climate. that way I can truly dial in my brisket game. another thing that would be cool is be able to set parameters based other parameters but that one is less necessary

Update-Its a year later and the app still sucks. 🤷🏽‍♀️ The smoker is decent. The app is awful. It is constantly doing updates that prevent you from using the app. The updates always seem to be required after you have already started cooking. After my most recent update the app opens, but doesn't allow me to set the temperature and the thermometer reader is not working even though I have a thermometer plugged in. I have deleted and restarted 3 times.

I didn't have any initial connection problems following the recommended settings exactly. I applaud the security others complained about- intelligent appliances are a usually brainless way into someone's private network. Everything came up and i was able to set a cook timer. I was hopeful the other complaints weren't going to apply. At that point, the "won't update" and loss of any control happened. Even though it said it loaded, after the timer expired, the grill kept going flat out. Oh well.

I'll be cooking something and I'll go to another app on my phone, make a phone call or even put my phone down and I'll come back later and it has to reconnect to the grill and then the temp defaults to 180f. I've reinstalled and tried keeping the app open ( not ideal as I use my phone for a lot of things) and it still fails to keep the temp. the app- not useful. something changed, it never used to do that. just manually set and don't download the app.

They broke the app. Won't even open for me. Would have been better off just deferring the app off to the generic one like they used to instead of trying to brand their own. At least that one opened.. Edit: They've come a long way with this app (thankfully). It's very usable. Requires some strange test to run mostly everytime you open the app during a cook which does give me some pause as to if it's disconnecting / grill turned off or by design.

Absolute Garbage. I've tried using the app for the first time after using the smoker on its own for several months with just the control panel. I've been very happy with the smoker and gotten the feel for it now, I figured it was time to do a longer more complex smoke, which the app would be perfect for. Well, it won't connect, and if it does, it won't stay connected. I'm extremely pissed off at one of the main selling features of my nearly $1000 smoker NOT WORKING!!

Doesn't work anymore. Used to be able to connect and controll the grill but once we connect it never updates any values on the phone, nor on the grill. doesn't seem to work over WiFi at all and constantly says it can't connect. I see it on the DCHP clients on my router and can ping it, but the app seems to refuse to even try. Bluetooth can "connect" but that's it. it won't even tell me the current temp on the grill when it's on and running

This app is pretty trash. It's clunky, the layout is a mess, and it randomly closes when I have it running in the background so when I open it up, it has to replay the boot animation and reconnect to the grill. The only useful thing it does is allow you to control the temperature from your phone, as long as you're still on your wifi or within Bluetooth distance. That's the only redeemable thing about this app. Rebuild it from the ground up.

I'm editing my review to reflect an even lower score. The smoker errors out after about two hours of use. The smoke flavor seemed to be richer on my old propane based smoker. The bluetooth app still does not work after several app updates. I was looking forward to monitoring my turkey temperature through the app, but the latest version still does not connect to the Wi-Fi or via Bluetooth to the smoker. SAVE YOUR MONEY! If you bought the garbage smoker, return it to the store IMMEDIATELY!!

I really wish this was just for controlling the grill and not clutter with a bunch of other stuff. the connection reliability is very poor, considering it's a Wi-Fi connected device, so you would expect the app to connect back to the grill without saying "connection lost." Once you actually get into the grill controls, and you go and set a temperature for a probe, after it reaches temperature and you cannot clear that setpoint. this has a lot of room for improvement and barely gets the basics

Like the app but needs a few improvements. Cooking analytics should be about to show temp and times by touching on that point. also shouldn't use start up time as part of cooking time. other issue and it may be type of phone I have. Samsung Fold6 won't let app transition from phone closed (small screen) to open (large screen) without freezing the app.

Heard alot of issues with this app over the first one PB had. wifi is only as good as what you pay for and pending what kind, I have fiber wifi and was able to setup and connect to my grill to my wifi before it was primed with pellets. App use of app is pretty easy straight forward, it's nice to be able to be anywhere to see temps, prove Temps, see how smoker is doing. One thing I would like to see added is the ability to set alarms for low temp high temp for smoker incase it shuts off.

Very feature poor. They could do so much more with the app but Pit Boss doesn't seem to care about its customers. And that's the worst part. They could include some extremely easy to add features like low and high temperature alerts for the smoker and the meat probe, but they won't do it. Simple things like this. They have put zero effort into improving their app and adding basic features. Really disappointing.

decent with a few issues. first off you only have about half of the temperature settings on the app that are available on the grill itself. The app only has increments of 50⁰ leaving much to be desired while the grill has increments of 10⁰. Also heaven forbid you try to hook to a Bluetooth speaker while you grill, becuase them you loose the connection to the grill. Also you cannot leave the house and expect to monitor the grill. you must be on the same network. other than its good.

Originally I gave it a 1 ⭐️ rating due to its inability to connect to the grill. After disconnecting and reconnecting to the wifi it has been working great ever since. Cons - I don't like the"Price is Right" style wheel to select times and temps. Its too slow. Typing the time would be better. Instead scrolling.

Grill works great, the app is another story. Starts off fine, then it drops and all I get is the dancing flame and the word loading. after a half hour or more it will start working again and then drop and the cycle keeps repeating. I have used the grill a handful of times and it never works properly. I should have saved a few bucks and went with the non-bluetooth/wifi grill since that feature doesn't work. Save your money or buy something that actually works all of the time.

Smoker works great, but app leaves much to be desired. I lose connection many times while smoking, and sometimes the app just crashes and won't open. setting things like the temperature on your probes is pointless because it erases as soon as you minimize the app. It also has very limited functions like grill temp, probe temp, timer, and a graph for your cook. It would be really nice if they put an alarm on the app so you could set high / low / probe temp alarms.

When, it works, it does what it's supposed to do. The problem is that it doesn't work about half the time. For some reason it can't hold a sign in more than two hours, so you regularly have to log in multiple times through a cook. It also does not always do a great job of tracking your cooks all the way through. If you're choosing a Pit Boss smoker with smart features and one without, save your money.
