Solved my mystery plant problem quickly and accurately. Pleasantly, surprised. edit: app seems broken. says to switch location to western europe. 1: I'm in the United states. 2: There is no option to change my location. I know you will say to turn on GPS but that's never going to happen. I adjusted my rating until fixed. Would have been one star but this app was good in the past.
Reviews for PlantNet Plant Identification
← Back to PlantNet Plant IdentificationCute idea, but not accurate, pics are not vetted by experts. For example, for oak & maple trees in New England most of the user uploaded pictures are for the wrong tree. Identifying oaks/maples is tricky because the leaves are close in shape/color. This makes the app useless for identification. There does not appear to be a way to flag incorrect info. On the other hand, for some other plants, the app points me in a direction and then I can use expert vetted resources to identify the plant.
This is a fantastic app. It's easy to use, you can choose different categories of plants plus locations and it gives you choices of what the plant is by highest percentage. My advice is to make sure and get the most clearest photo. Once you agree with the option given you can also look up the information about the plant. This comes in handy as I discovered I was making mistakes on cultivation for 2 of my plants. The plants are doing much better now that I've corrected my error.
This app is great at identifying anything that grows (I kinda want to try it on a couple of my kids...!). Very accurate, speedy, and unlike all the other similar apps I've tried, it does NOT nag you or require payment. To the point I'd actually consider a paid version, since they have given me the opportunity to experience how good the free app is.
So far, so good! I haven't used it long, but for my novice 'backyard weed' ID it's worked really well. it's pretty straightforward. The most basic: ☆Hit the camera icon to either take a picture directly, or use one from your gallery. I haven't played much yet, but it looks like you can take multiple pictures to help with identification? ☆ The app will ask if the picture is of the leaf, flower, fruit, bark, or growth habit. Choose whichever your image is, and submit it.
Edit: the more I use this app, the more I'm frustrated that there's no ability to reject options when you are sure they are not the correct plant. For example, if I planted a sunflower here, I know it's not lambsquarters but yet I can't "dismiss" it and have to keep scrolling past it. And you *really* need a commenting/notes feature on photos so they can be discussed with other members, or even just leave notes for yourself. If those were options, I'd rate this a 5!
I gave 2 stars because of the well disgned UI. Out of the 4 plants (2 trees and 2 vines) I've tried to identify, it did not get any of them correct. After taking several photos of different leaves in different light and pictures of the bark it still was not able to identify correctly. It also takes a while to upload and get a result on wifi or 5g. It seems to pause if you lock your phone or run the app in the background, so you can't use your phone for anything else while the app works.
Useful. It would be great if users could view their plants grouped/filtered by the location they entered. And see their location and notes along with each plant in the list without having to click into details. Also, the way to add additional images is a bit difficult to find (scroll all the way down), and for past plant searches there doesn't seem to be any way to add another image when redoing the search.
Great! Although challenging to navigate to the different options, but then I'm not technically inclined, will probably become easier the more I use the app. For years I see plants and wonder what they are, this app is pretty amazing. Plus my pictures are saved, so I can go back and review what the plant was. Love that you can link directly to Wikipedia.
Very accurate and versatile. Probably as close to perfect as it is possible to be. To get more accurate results, you need to learn to use the app and make sure you try several different photos and when uncertain get both bark and leaves or fruit/flowers). Very, very impressive. The app learns and gets better the more people use it but it is already amazingly accurate.
Came back to change my review. Apparently they were having some technical issues last week, which is okay, it happens. Even though I had already identified my plant, I re installed to test it out, and it worked great. It identified my plant quickly, and the app is easy to use. Also, they don't go crazy with the invasive ads like the other app I tried. I'll be using this one as opposed to the other one now. Thanks guys!
Been using this app for at least a year and all of a sudden it doesn't want to work anymore. Phone and app are all updated. Keeps giving me "technical difficulty" pop-ups and I can't even access plants/photos I've already identified, let alone ID new ones. Was a fine app and I liked the direct link to the plant's wiki but now it just doesn't work at all! :(
Turning my day-to-day into an adventure! No matter where I go, there are always plants and I don't always know what they are. Hiking in the mountains, or hanging at a friends, this app is great for identifying plants and I have found it to be quite accurate. It's increasing my curiosity which in turn helps with knowledge and care of future plants. Would recommend highly!
Phenomenal! I've been looking for this type of app for a long time, and am so very pleased! I am not only happy that I found it, but am happy that it works so well. In my test of 20 different plants that I knew, (they were personal friends) the app identified them correctly 100%. The app is really easy to use, almost fun even. You can take a picture, or pull one from your gallery. I probably look like an idiot, taking pictures of plants surrounding the local Denny's, but I'm enjoying myself.
I love this app. It's easy to use and identifies every plant I've searched for. My only complaint is it doesn't like to save the identification of the plant after I've confirmed it. But that is a small annoyance compared to the rest of the app. I love that once I have identified a plant, I can check out all the information about it and see other pictures of the bark, the leaves, the fruit, and everything else about it. They also have a wikipedia entry about it and a basic information tab.
Love this app. I use it very often to identify unknown species of all types of plants and weeds. Interface is straightforward and results are usually 100% correct. It also allows you to identify a pic, then go back and add more different ones to aid in the ID (bark, leaves, flower, fruit, etc). You can even submit for verification by others in the community as well as get scientific name and facts.
A very helpful app to idenitfy plants! But users beware- I wouldn't depend solely on this app, cross referencing is needed to actually identify a plant. I added a plant recently that was not listed in the directory, and adding it to the app was difficult (I wasn't able to add its common name, and a search for its genus or species came up with nothing).
The absolute best app for amateurs trying to learn botany. I am constantly amazed by how well it is able identify species. I use it for foraging, selective weeding, and flower identification. Some people may struggle if they don't use it correctly, but as long as you take a clear picture that includes as much of the plant as possible (or typically an arm sized piece for larger plants), you'll get an ID just about every time.
Offline Mode is not working. I installed this app exclusively for its promise of offline operation. I enabled embedded identification and downloaded all of the packages including pictures. It does do a search and provides a list of scientific plant names. But when I click on a name to see more information or to see pictures to confirm, all I get is a network error. A scientific name alone is not enough. :( Also there is nowhere within the app to report an issue.
this app has saved me so many times from different plants that were not what I thought they were. I have also been able to learn about so many plants that I find.... it's wonderful! it doesn't bog down...shut down randomly and I get to see pictures of multiple growth stages of each plant. I would rate it higher than 5 stars but that the limit.
