Solved my mystery plant problem quickly and accurately. Pleasantly, surprised. edit: app seems broken. says to switch location to western europe. 1: I'm in the United states. 2: There is no option to change my location. I know you will say to turn on GPS but that's never going to happen. I adjusted my rating until fixed. Would have been one star but this app was good in the past.
Reviews for PlantNet Plant Identification
Cute idea, but not accurate, pics are not vetted by experts. For example, for oak & maple trees in New England most of the user uploaded pictures are for the wrong tree. Identifying oaks/maples is tricky because the leaves are close in shape/color. This makes the app useless for identification. There does not appear to be a way to flag incorrect info. On the other hand, for some other plants, the app points me in a direction and then I can use expert vetted resources to identify the plant.
This is a fantastic app. It's easy to use, you can choose different categories of plants plus locations and it gives you choices of what the plant is by highest percentage. My advice is to make sure and get the most clearest photo. Once you agree with the option given you can also look up the information about the plant. This comes in handy as I discovered I was making mistakes on cultivation for 2 of my plants. The plants are doing much better now that I've corrected my error.
This app is great at identifying anything that grows (I kinda want to try it on a couple of my kids...!). Very accurate, speedy, and unlike all the other similar apps I've tried, it does NOT nag you or require payment. To the point I'd actually consider a paid version, since they have given me the opportunity to experience how good the free app is.
So far, so good! I haven't used it long, but for my novice 'backyard weed' ID it's worked really well. it's pretty straightforward. The most basic: ☆Hit the camera icon to either take a picture directly, or use one from your gallery. I haven't played much yet, but it looks like you can take multiple pictures to help with identification? ☆ The app will ask if the picture is of the leaf, flower, fruit, bark, or growth habit. Choose whichever your image is, and submit it.
Edit: the more I use this app, the more I'm frustrated that there's no ability to reject options when you are sure they are not the correct plant. For example, if I planted a sunflower here, I know it's not lambsquarters but yet I can't "dismiss" it and have to keep scrolling past it. And you *really* need a commenting/notes feature on photos so they can be discussed with other members, or even just leave notes for yourself. If those were options, I'd rate this a 5!
I gave 2 stars because of the well disgned UI. Out of the 4 plants (2 trees and 2 vines) I've tried to identify, it did not get any of them correct. After taking several photos of different leaves in different light and pictures of the bark it still was not able to identify correctly. It also takes a while to upload and get a result on wifi or 5g. It seems to pause if you lock your phone or run the app in the background, so you can't use your phone for anything else while the app works.
Useful. It would be great if users could view their plants grouped/filtered by the location they entered. And see their location and notes along with each plant in the list without having to click into details. Also, the way to add additional images is a bit difficult to find (scroll all the way down), and for past plant searches there doesn't seem to be any way to add another image when redoing the search.
Great! Although challenging to navigate to the different options, but then I'm not technically inclined, will probably become easier the more I use the app. For years I see plants and wonder what they are, this app is pretty amazing. Plus my pictures are saved, so I can go back and review what the plant was. Love that you can link directly to Wikipedia.
Very accurate and versatile. Probably as close to perfect as it is possible to be. To get more accurate results, you need to learn to use the app and make sure you try several different photos and when uncertain get both bark and leaves or fruit/flowers). Very, very impressive. The app learns and gets better the more people use it but it is already amazingly accurate.
