I’ve been using the Prairie State Hike App for a couple months now. It’s basically an app that lets you go on guided hikes through different natural areas in Illinois. The app uses GPS to track your location and provide info about the plants, animals, and history of the trail.
There’s a bunch of different hikes you can choose from – some are short and easy, others are longer and more challenging. You can download the hike info ahead of time so you don’t need cell service on the trail. And the app has cool features like letting you take notes and photos to share with friends.
Look, if you’re into the outdoors and exploring new places, you’ll probably really like this app. It’s not perfect – the selection of hikes is still pretty limited right now – but overall it’s a pretty solid way to discover new natural areas in Illinois. Worth checking out for sure.
