Reviews for Preply: Language Learning App

Great app with a wide range of subjects, prices, and nationality of teacher in its tutor selections. However there are a few missing things. For one, you can't buy one lesson to use a teacher. You have to buy a bundle. Also, any tutor you use is forever stuck on your list of tutors. You can't delete them or archive them if you no longer use them.

My teacher is amazing. I love her. 100/10 experience so far with her. As far as the app itself goes -9/10. It's really an easy way to pay the teachers. When it works it is amazing. However the odds of it working are so low it's not even worth trying to meet on. For the first few lessons it worked fine and then all of a sudden it just stopped connecting. Their IT support is absolutely horrible and will blame your internet which NO other website has an issue with as the reason for the failure.

The option to book classes works well. What's poor is where you really can't see when your next classes are as the calendar isn't accurate. Also, the company manages to hold onto your money because they don't make it possible to transfer just part of what you have already prepaid to another tutor. One has to make another payment into their account which means you have even more money invested in the preplay bank account. I agree with another poster in that the tutors can increase their prices .

Never use this app. This is very clever, tricky and gold digger. At the beginning time, I tried to set up my payment, but failed not working well and errors. That time They tried to help anything. But. After subscription, when I had a lot of lessons classes, another 'preply 'payment was on pending. So I tried to cancle ' pending transaction ' they couldn't do anything. Only I can do refund with charging fee. You know? is it common sense that we can't cancel 'pending transaction? We are not idiot

This app is ridiculous! When one needs to get in contact with ANYONE, nobody is available! You can't call, the only method is vía chat/message and even then, they take DAYS to get back to you! They take money out without even confirming with you first! I wanted to learn French and the teacher was/is great, but the app is just stupid! I don't feel like using it anymore! Smh...

Lots of tutors at a range of price points, but the app is designed to make you waste money. It will automatically purchase more hours than you indicate before you use all your remaining hours, forcing you to commit more time per week or waste that money. Ex: 2 hours per week will autobuy 8 hours once you get down to 2 hours, but the hours expire after four weeks. So unless you find a way to use more than 2 hours that week, you forfeit a week of lessons.

Preply has really helped me get back into my language learning journey. I finished my language classes for my major early and have been lacking in study since. My preply tutors have been amazing and supportive, and I feel my language skills coming back and improving. The mobile app is super easy to use and access. Its easy to search for tutors that fit your needs and budget. Its easy to cancel or transfer subscriptions too, so no hassle there. Thank you preply!

I found an *absolutely fantastic* teacher and am having a great learning experience. My only gripe so far is the subscription model: there is a feee trial lesson and then you can only monthly. You can't buy classes as packages (ie 5, 10). You can't schedule the next month until the auto renew occurs. If I have a weekly lesson that's one day after auto-renewal, I can't schedule it until the renewal happens. There's also limited rollover if you over purchase one month.

Good app for whatever you want to learn, whether it be learning a foreign language or help with schoolwork. The only downside is if you sign up for more than one lesson with the same tutor, you will automatically be enrolled into a subscription and be charged a monthly amount. They also won't stop subscription renewal - you have to physically go into Settings and cancel your subscription, but you won't get your money back.

It's easy to find tutors, get/send messages, and schedule lessons. It could have been more transparent about how subscriptions work, though. You have to pay for a month at a time, with a minimum of four lessons. The other thing that was a little problem the first time is that the actual lessons work better on a laptop because if the tutor shares their screen, it's too small to see on a phone screen.

Easy to use language tutors. I looked into the site and signed up for a 50-minute trial lesson. I need to practice using my Spanish in everyday conversations more often. I was nervous going in, but my tutor, Emmanuel, made the session so fun. He was great at providing constructive feedback and letting me know where I was making mistakes with my grammar and sentence structure. I enjoyed the trial so much that I immediately subscribed for 1 month of classes. Can't wait to see how much I improve!

This app gives you access to amazing tutors. You may have to search but when you find a good one, that's great. What Isn't great is the obvious predatory subscription model. It's just unnecessary and confusing. I shouldn't need to subscribe to a number of lessons per month. Just let me pay for a number of lessons to use each month with no subscription. When you start scheduling and rescheduling it inevitably gets confusing. That's the worse part about this. The subscription.

The app itself works well, but I'm frustrated because I have unknowingly been paying $90 per month for lessons I'm not using and that expire. I never intended to pay for or receive more than 4 lessons in December/January. But somehow, the subscription continued without my knowledge. So I unintentionally paid for at least 8 lessons that I will not use. These subscriptions too often feel like a scam. I'm very frustrated. Yes, I did get email notifications, but I get way too much email to catch...

They have "refill on" service. That is turned on by default. You need to turn off it. Otherwise, it will be silently charging you. They don't have a phone number. Everything goes with email. Each email is replied to by a different manager. And you need to explain all over again. It was the most insane experience I ever had! Update: it took only 20 emails to get refunded. But they didn't do it in full. Hopefully, it will take only another 20 emails to know why. Unprofessionalism as is. Be aware.

Rescheduling on the app didn't work (from the tutor's side or ours), so there were many misunderstandings with the tutors. Also, Preply locks you into billing, so that even if you can't find times that align with your tutor, you're still billed for a certain number per month. A pay-as-you-go system would be good, but what ended up happening was we paid for about 12 tutoring sessions and actually received about 4. The tutors were very good, but Preply's system is flawed.

The app is generally OK but a total disaster when it comes to changing time zones. One can manually adjust the time zone one is in but the app doesn't take it into account immediately so the schedule ends up being totally incorrect. I've had to cancel and lose money on three classes as they were suddenly "rescheduled" in the middle of the night. It's totally unreliable in this aspect. ***update*** Tech support vanished, problem was never resolved.

I downloaded the app after applying for a remote customer service job. I have 10 years of customer service and 10 years of ESL teaching experience and they rejected my application. I was bothered by the wording and looked at the job posting again and the locations listed in the application process. Only to find they are trying to exploit foreign worker in 3 countries based on the salary level. A little disappointed that an American company would do that but not surprised.

The app is great!! I'm very satisfied with my tutor, and it's very easy to work past the app's flaws when working with somebody so wonderful. I do wish the app would work out it's flaws though, sometimes in call the chat doesn't work, and my tutor has expressed how she often uses other websites to call her students because the Preply calls don't work well for everybody! I got lucky for them to work for me, but luckily for anyone it doesn't work for, most tutors have an alternative. 💛

The app is great as a platform for language learning. But the company is run like an internet scam. Its business model seems to depend on trapping you into subscriptions and paying for lessons you can't use (im guessing because the company takes the money when you don't meet with a tutor). It's full of little traps. Restrictions on cancelling or changing your subscription, lesson credits that expire if you don't use them before the end of the month, etc.

Tutors are great. Preply business practices are not. They removed the option to cancel subscription on phone app, while it's very convenient on the app to subscribe and they continually push adding additional lessons. Cancellation from a computer requires you to confirm 3 times that you want to cancel. There's absolutely no customer service support, lost several lessons that tutors didn't show up. Tutors don't get paid for trial lessons even if we as students subscribe. iTalki is better
