It's a convenient way to pay your bills. But I really don't like that it has to constantly be running in the background. Edit: after seeing other reviews, I looked into my snapshot trip records. What an absolute garbage tier tracking app. How do I even have 50% phone usage during a trip?! I'm pretty sure it thought that playing music was phone usage. And it's not like it can tell if my passenger is the one using my phone.
Reviews for Progressive
This app considers handsfree, bluetooth calling "distracted driving" and will penalize you for it. So if you make or take a phone call while driving, that counts against your good driving score, and your rate will go up. I've had other insurance with some kind of safe driving discount feature, but that was never an issue. Progressive, y'all need to fix this. My rate went up $80 in a very short time because of this. Considering leaving Progressive.
If it were possible to give this app less than one star I would. But first, this app was perfect up until Nov 20th. That's when Progressive rolled out accident response... There is no way to opt out, NONE! It can be "turned off" but that's not the same. It's a way for them to track your driving, likely to find a way to decline your claim. It's billed as "getting the help you need" I got constant reminders to complete the sign up process. Once you start, there's no turning back. Uninstalled!
Note that this app needs your location permission ALL THE TIME not just while the app is open. It has the ability to collect data such as driving speed, hard braking, fast acceleration, if your phone is in use while driving, and what apps are being used. Hard pass for me. I do not need another app always running in the background collecting data and using up my battery.
I did have Snapshot to reduce my rates of being a "first time driver" when I got a lean for the first time. It didn't register driver vs passenger hardly at ALL, so unless I wanted to be logging my drives for every single day, my rating took hit after hit until I was dropped from Snapshot. My autopay has failed multiple times for no reason so I've been "overdue" once I notice it never came out. Progressive makes you do all the work, nothing is automatic.
not only does this app eat battery (17.2% and 18.4% battery use in two days) and the "dedicated support line" for this app not answer their phone, it is also incredibly inaccurate in what it thinks is going on. I was wondering why I was only getting 4 stars, and turns out it thinks I'm on the phone chatting and talking when in reality at the time it claimed those were going on I was actually only using Maps and had the phone connected to my car's audio to listen to podcasts. DUMB
The app was fine for like a month, now every time I go onto it the app says I'm "offline" and I can't access anything. I'm not offline, I'm on WiFi or data but for whatever reason the app doesn't recognize this so I have to go onto the browser and do everything manually. Also progressive cancelled my renters insurance after I paid my auto insurance fully. Not related to the app, but don't expect any communication on matters like that because I still have no clue why it happened.
Horrific app that won't work on short trips around town, has no context for whether so called hard brakes or accelerations might be necessary, and gives you demerits just for traveling long distances. Far from rewarding safe driving, it seems designed to lower your rating and increase your rates (mine went up upon first renewal, which ONLY used to happen in the case of accidents or tickets). It's a scam that pretends to look out for you.
Reporting the accident was easy, and sort of fun, except for the part where you draw the path of the moving vehicle. I had to draw on the sidewalk across the street to get the car in the road. The photos were pretty good too, except that sometimes it asked for a number of photos and didn't let me take them all. But I got 16 reminders to upload them AFTER I uploaded them. But be warned- even when another progressive driver does a hit and run on your parked car, you still pay the deductible.
it keeps telling me I'm on my phone when I'm not....not even bluetoothed! Also, on the billing page, it shows I have four out of possible 5 stars, but in the trip section, I have 5 of 5 stars. I can't help but wonder if that's just so they can charge a higher rate.....grrr like they're not getting enough as it is. I have a clean driving record (no tickets since 1992-tge only one I've ever gotten) and an excellent credit rating. You'd think they could cut a widow some slack!
