Disconnects for no apparent reason, then does not automatically reconnect as it should. Across multiple platforms, the settings to start on boot, kill switch, and other connection fails do not seem to be getting fixed. Despite having the kill switch on, I am occasionally connected with my real IP address, which I discover when local ads appear. There aren't enough characters for me to explain the issues with the way the app is designed, things I shouldn't have to explain to Proton.
Reviews for Proton VPN: Fast & Secure VPN
I paid for the subscription. Still active for another 6 months. Things is not only does it make it hard to use certain stuff like League of Legend client on PC, but as I type this it's gotten so bad to the point that Wifi or not I had to disconnect from the VPN to visit the DuckDuckGo or Google search for a local restaurant. Having to disconnect and reconnect to make stuff work just isn't fun. A lot of people seem to have success with it and it has good ratings I just have no idea why not myself
I recently used the VPN hotspot functionality and it failed, exposing my IP. Toggling various things off and on seemed to resolve it but I'm not confident in the "it's on" indicators on the Windows app. I have 1Gbps and w/ the VPN it's very slow. While the android app looks great and is simple, I'm not confident in the underlying service and am hesitant to go pro. Their CS response to my Drive review & other reviews further degrades confidence.
It works, but perhaps a little too good. I can't login to any of my financial institutions, playstore, and a few others. The split tunneling doesn't work. I tried inverse and standard, and nothing I exclude can get through. Also, there is no "snooze". So if you disconnect from the VPN, you have to remember to turn it back on. Canceling my trial.
Works great but needs a pause button. Currently, there is only a connect and disconnect option. If you have the kill switch on and want to connect to something or access a site blocked by VPNs, you have to turn off the kill switch on your settings to complete what you're trying to connect, and then turn it back on afterwards. NORD has a pause switch that works great.
Nice for a free app. It's nice there arent ads you have to watch to use it like other similar apps. my only complaint is that there seem to be a limited number of locations in the free version. However I don't think that's a valid complaint really. It's free. I just hope my data isn't being collected secretly or something using this .. I'm really sketchy about apps that are monitoring your network activity and traffic, or if they want to they can I mean.
VPN works. I'm giving 3 stars because back then it used to let you pick which free server to use if you used the free version. Now it picks a random server for you and if it's not the one you want, too bad you're gonna have to wait 20 minutes. Sometimes it will pick the same country 3 times in a row! It's a shame because I actually really liked this app. But this unnecessary change really annoys me and is making me consider switching services. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
Been using this VPN for a couple months now. Honestly, in my opinion, probably the best free VPN available. Doesn't put hard speed restrictions in place, though speed/connection quality can be affected if you're using a server that's nearly full. But in that case, just change to a different server. Just bought a PS5 so I'm a little short on money, but I'll definitely be looking at upgrading to the 2 Year paid plan once my next paycheck comes through.
Leaves a lot to be desired as far as connection stability. I often have to manually disconnect and reconnect in the app or from my status bar to get it unstuck from the "connecting..." state. There's also no ability to group multiple servers into one profile and connect to the fastest out of that group, but you can auto-connect to a specific country. The subscription to Proton is worth it for the quality of service, but the android app is sub-par.
Great service at a fair price. What's really great about this app is that it offers multi hop capabilities through their secure core based in multiple privacy friendly countries. For some reason, that's a rare, but critical feature for privacy. No other major provider offers that, not even Nord. Breaking through 1 VPN, possible and not hard for some. Breaking through 3 of them? Good luck. Better pack a lunch and be ready for a lot of delivery. Up to 10 devices, run a VM and run the VPN in VM.
