FRAUD link compromised my information and bank!!! I have reported this app to reportfraud.gov!!!! I scanned a QR code to pay a bill and clicked on one of the links! My bank notified me of suspicious fraud!! When I went back the link had said "ad" There is NO way to contact customer service!!! Even if it was an "ad" link. Why would you use fraudulent ads on your app!!! Be VERY careful!!! I suggest everyone who this has happened to, REPORT it!!! I will do everything I can to let people know!!!
Reviews for QR & Barcode Scanner
← Back to QR & Barcode Scannerthe app works fine, but when my mom, who wasn't familiar with it, used it on my phone for something, she naturally clicked on the "OPEN NOW" and not the link. she then handed the phone back to me to fill out and I then needed to cancel my debit card as the ad placement directly led to a scam site.
This app was awesome for years but now they want to sell your personal data to third parties! You have to manually opt out of like a hundred individual checks and hope you didn't miss anything. I should have never let the app upgrade, but the changes claimed that it was for bug fixes. A shame to see this kind of change to one of the best free apps on here.
Scam alert! Don't click the ad on accident! I scanned the QR code to activate my credit card and a button in the middle of the screen said "Open" with the word "Activate" above it looked like the way to open the link but it was a link to a scam! I didn't realize it until I had put in my card info and even though I cancelled, it tried charging my account as soon as it was activated.
They support scam ads. Was at a restaurant that you had to scan your tables QR code. Took me right to a site that asked for the normal credentials. Turns out it was for something totally different, some "digital membership" that you can't cancel. So now I'm having a headache explaining to my bank how it's a scam and I did not make a purchase for $39.99.
The app is very quick and, in my opinion, intuitive. My reason for the 4 star instead of 5 star rating is the placement of the scanned barcode image below the ad. The decoded text of the barcode is at the top, and the barcode image should be placed next. Instead, an ad comes next (no criticism of the advertisement, dev has to be paid for their work) with an Open button. This arrangement implies that the Open button is pressed to see search results, but it opens the ad.
DO NOT USE THIS SCANNER!- This is connected to scamming companies! I used it to reactivate a PBS account on Roku and when I clicked a link on my phone it took me to something that was not PBS (I didn't realize that). I stupidly gave my credit card number and they said my account would not be charged. It was charged right away. When I try to login to their website it does not allow me to. I've had to lock my debit card and go through the process of changing all my billing accounts. BEWARE!!
Works as expected, though ads are not vetted for deceptive practice. Most ads have a big call-to-action button beneath them, either "Open" or "Install". This button is not an obvious part of the ad and schemed to look like a functional part of the app. When showing the "Open" button, it is entirely too easy to confuse with a button that would open the link decoded from the barcode. Although the ad is labeled as such, it needs to be visually framed. Until that happens, this app is deceptive.
Deceptive ads are allowed directly underneath scanned links. I knew to look out for them, and still one day it caught me off guard. I went to pay for parking in a new city and, with the glare of the sun making it difficult to see my screen, I clicked on the ad by mistake. It took me directly to a page to fill out my credit card info, and thinking that I was paying for the parking I filled it out and got my credit card stolen. That experience prompted me to find a better app to use.
Was trying to sign up for a limited time thing, and downloaded this to use the QR image. The ads are deceptive and was just vague enough for me to believe it was the correct website. I put in my email/phone number and have been inundated with spam calls/emails non-stop, even 2 am. They could've set it up in a way that clearly indicates you are viewing a different website than the one you wanted, but they probably make more money if you trust them and fill out the ad. Use any other qr scanner
Ads are scams! I was attempting to pay a restaurant bill, and instead of the restaurant opening up, the ad did. It took my information and now is billing me 49.95 for something I didn't order or have access to. Be aware that the app allows ads that are scams. In response to your response. BULL. I am not stupid to mix up apps. That is insulting. I maintain my statement.
Downloaded at the moment I needed it. Developer must have known that to be something that happens often cause as soon as I opened the app it went straight to the camera, ready to scan. It was easy to scan the QR code and it returned the result lighting fast. I was given options on what I wanted to do (open the weblink, share the link or what-have-you) and when I touched the "open link" button, I was quickly moved to the exact correct target for that link. Worked great!! Love it.
BEWARE. Same thing as others have said, the ads are vague. I downloaded this QR scanner to scan a qr code on the side of the router I got them clicked on an ad thinking it was the link to start my intertet up. I input the card info for the "free" account, which was kind of weird looking back, but next thing I know my bank sends me a text saying they blocked a transaction of $39.99 immediately after I tried creating the "free" account. The Ads are scams. Choose a different app.
I don't care for the way the ads are presented after scanning a code: Ads are in the middle of the screen, with a large blue button, while the actual scanned link is an inconspicuous url at the top. I feel like this intentionally misleads users into clicking on the ads, and I will be uninstalling because of it. The scanning capability itself works fine.
Like many others have stated, the App plaves it's ads in a way that causes you to mistakenly click them, which lead to me having to replace my debit card. And for the likely reply I'll get to tgis no it's not because of the QR Code I scanned and yes your app is free and having ads isn't a bad thing but put them at the very top of the app not dead center with a huge blue "Open" button. Seriously, that's uncalled for. Also, before it's said no, I did not confuse this app for another one.
I just downloaded this app. Initially I had a negative reaction when I scanned a QR code. it prominently showed an ad in the middle and choosing Continue at the bottom would have taken me to the ad. Solutions: First, simply look at the top of your screen and choose the displayed URL you just scanned. This takes you to where you want to be. Second, in Settings, select "automatically open the scanned URL." Next time, it will go straight to the scanned URL. Great App. Scans with lightening speed.
Similar complaint as other users have said. When I scanned a QR, it brought up two links. One link with a big blue button that was actually an ad. The other link which was the one I wanted, was much more inconspicuous. I was in a rush trying to pay for parking. I accidentally opened the ad link thinking it was to pay for parking. I foolishly filled out the form and entered my credit card info. Now, my bank account has been hacked because the link is a scam site. 1 star for hosting a scam.
It works as described. I do have a problem with the way the advertisements are set up on the page after you scan a qr code. Like other people have said, there is a blue "open" button between the picture of the code and the address, that looks like it will open up the link you scanned. It instead opens up an advertisement link in your browser. I don't believe it is an intentional scam, but it is definitely an issue that needs to be addressed. It is on this app, no mistake (like support has said).
I have only used this QR & Barcode Scanner one time but it wasted no time in presenting the number I was looking for! Before I ever even got it in focus, I thought that it was an error 😁. Quick, Simple and even more effective than the others I've tried. Great job in putting it together and offering it to the public! CHECK IT OUT GUYS! NO NEED To Keep Looking, you found it!
When scanning a QR code, an ad will come up in middle of screen. I didn't realize this was an ad so I clicked on Open and put in my credit card to pay for parking. Well, turns out it was not the parking site I was on. it was a fraudulent company that charged my credit card on 2 separate occasions days apart and my bank notified me and I had to cancel credit card. Stop letting fraudulent companies advertise on your app!!
