Description
Been using QuickBars for Home Assistant for a couple months now. It’s basically an app that lets you control your smart home right from your Android TV or Google TV. Basically you can launch these little sidebar overlays (they call ’em QuickBars) to toggle lights, adjust the thermostat, and run all sorts of Home Assistant scripts – without interrupting whatever you’re watching.
There’s a bunch of cool features too. You can map different remote control actions like single tap, double tap, and long press to open a QuickBar or control specific devices. And it’s got camera support so you can put your security cams in picture-in-picture. Oh, and the customization is great – you can pick which Home Assistant entities show up, change the icons and colors, that kind of thing.
Look, if you’re big into home automation and have a Google TV or Android TV, you’ll probably really like this. It’s not perfect – sometimes the QuickBars take a second to load – but overall it’s a pretty solid way to control your smart home from the couch. Worth checking out for sure.
Editor Opinion
So here's my honest take on QuickBars for Home Assistant. I've tested a bunch of home automation apps and this one's up there with the best. The TV-focused interface is really well-designed and it makes controlling my smart home a breeze. The quick access to key entities is a game-changer, and being able to customize everything is great. My only real complaint is that the QuickBars can be a little sluggish to load sometimes, but it's not a dealbreaker. Overall, if you're a Home Assistant user with a Google TV or Android TV, I'd highly recommend giving this a try.
