App and doorbell, after having it for about a year of paid service, just stopped doing its job right in 7/21. Prior to this, got notifications, with video, and if I wanted to, could see live view...after that date, keep in mind, my signal is 42 which is very good, and nothing on my wifi has changed, I get notifications, but no video, even though I am paying for the service, no previews, and can no longer view live. Not to mention, doorbell doesn't chime. But Alexa still works with bell. Useless.
Reviews for Ring - Always Home
← Back to Ring - Always HomeThe first doorbell from Amazon was defective and the return process was a nightmare. The second doorbell works but it's hit and miss on what it detects and the notifications, also hit and miss can lag, so be prepared to spend extra money on a Ring chime as your existing chime (by design) will no longer work. Won't even pick up vehicles in my driveway well in view and 20 ft. from the camera. Very disappointing from a major brand. As for the app, it's ok but very marketing forward.
Worked great for months. After a recent update, the notifications are completely worthless. I am getting notifications up to 3 hours late. sometimes, the camera does not even record when a package is dropped off. The video preview has been removed from the notification. You can no longer access the application when tapping the notification. The system doesn't even work as a doorbell as i don't receive the notification until hours later. I have done a complete re-setup and it still is worthles
won't let me log into the app without the code that is generated from inside the app.... the app i can't log into. support wants me to email my ID even though I verified my account with them to verify my account. yes, you read that right. took back almost 1k worth of their camers. if its that hard to deal with before even setting anything up. I definitely don't want to see what's down the road.
The app never works. you can't do anything from the app. can't troubleshoot anything when you call them they tell you it's your internet. is the problem yet? the device health report says that it's in its perfect range and perfect internet connection. this app and the whole ring system is just a waste of money. I wish I'd have never bought it
The performance of recordings has been deteriorating. I don't know if it's due to app updates or what, but recently when there is an event that triggers an alert and recording, there is a glitchy gap in the recording, sometimes long enough to miss what triggered tge alert, rending it useless. Sometime there is weird green flash during the gap, but not always. If this continues we'll have to replace the system.
I have owned several generations of the Ring doorbell, it used to work 90% of the time a few years back. Now that I'm forced to pay for features, it has become unreliable, glitches, and cannot retrieve past videos. Literally, someone is at the door ringing the doorbell and I don't receive a notification until minutes later if ever. Time to move on to a better product!
It's not a great app. It doesn't always tell me when there is "motion" outside and never when there are actual people. Before you say it's my settings, I don't think any app who constantly goes off all night long telling me the stray cats are "people outside" has any right to be telling me the settings are off. FYI cats are not people. Seems like your rates go up, quality goes down, and the only addition you've made is another way for neighbors to annoy each other. idea-good. implement -bad.
Variable Image Consistency. When I open the app it may, or may not show any of my cameras throughout my property. I have a 1.2gb Xfinity isp that consistently runs at 1.4gb. I have excellent connectivity as well. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the Ring app... with no difference in results. I have tried with or without my VPN - also no difference, and it shouldn't be an issue because I've been running a VPN for years and it's never been an issue until recently.
DO NOT BUY INTO THEIR HYPE. If all you want to know is who was at your door five-minutes ago, they're great. Motion only shows them standing at the door and nothing as they walk up the porch. Sometimes not until they leave. Most of the time no notifications at all. Pretty worthless without notifications and delayed alerts. Their updates keep saying "bug fixes and improvements" but the bugs are still there and I see no improvement.
App is super glitchy. When you delete a video, instead of going to the previous video or the next video, it jumps to the very beginning of that day. If you delete another video, it jumps to the beginning of the PREVIOUS day. I then have to go through an entire day's worth of videos to get caught up to current again. Hate this app and only use it because I don't have a choice. Considering switching to a different video doorbell altogether just because of the horrible user interface.
For the most part RING has been a good security/camera system. The new updates made the RING app so much better. So when this new update came out, myself & lots others here in the reviews we're thinking it was going to be great. RING might as well built a time machine to go back to 2019. They removed so many features & Geo fencing isn't recognizing me anymore. I also upgraded my yearly subscription so I'm paying twice more for 24/7 recording, but the app did not update to this new 24/7 feature.
So my annual subscription went up this summer AND they paywalled home/away?? Lol greedflation in app form, ladies and gents. Read the reviews. You can't arm/disarm- otherwise basic features that were already available to paid subscribers. Well over 200% price increase over the last couple of years. Don't expect it to stop. Find another alternative.
12/15/24 Update: Since the latest update, the app has had major glitches, plus I'm having to re-connect it to my wifi multiple times per day. Many times, it won't reconnect and will be "offline" for days. Additionally, features we previously had with the "Home Basic" subscription are no longer available unless you upgrade plans to a much higher price point. Absolutely ridiculous and extremely disappointing.
Update! I wish I could give zero stars! I bought my camera in May 2023, and have used it in 2 different houses. It was perfect up until last month. After the last time I charged my camera, I went to put it back up when I noticed that it wasn't connected to my wifi. That makes the 3rd time since June it would disconnect and then I'd have to reconnect it. THEN I noticed Modes was gone so I upgraded my plan and I'm STILL not receiving notifications or recordings, only live feed. Do better!! Fix it!
Overall this camera does what it says. We haven't had problems with it missing people directly on our porch. However there are so many missed events, the notifications are very delayed, and the camera quality is pretty poor when zooming in especially. It misses things that aren't that far away like a car pulling into the end of my driveway and doesnt notify us until a minute after the doorbell rings. Overall, good not great and we're looking for other options.
The software designers apparently gave no consideration to pressing the same location on the phone when the phone doesn't respond, because when it finally does respond, the same location on the next screen may change something you didn't want changed. This wastes time and is bad design, and I think the newer version is worse than the older one in other ways, too. Also, Ring in general has problems picking motion up and misses a lot of important footage, including break-ins.
No Notifications? I've had this app for years and it's notified me of every motion on my phone. A week or so ago, it started asking if I was getting correct or incorrect motion alerts, to which I didn't respond. The last few days, it's just stopped notifying me of anything. I've checked my notifications settings numerous times - everything is turned on. I've restarted my phone a few times. I use a Galaxy S23. Please fix this.
The whole point of having a security camera is to check when you hear something outside - but every single time I try to load Live View during noise or motion, it fails to connect. I even tested it by setting off my own car alarm and the app still wouldn't load. It can't be a coincidence - the feed always fails exactly when it matters. Works fine when nothing is happening, but completely unreliable in real situations. Very frustrating and makes me question the point of owning a Ring cam.
App worked great till a couple months ago. Now notifications are pointless if they even come through timely. The doorbell ring no longer works as a notification on the phone, only through the doorbell itself, there is no longer a video preview, the app does not open when you click on the notification, and on the rare occasion that it does open it brings you to a whole new live view rather than the footage it notified you about. The app has become pointless for notifications.
