First off it's not very accurate... secondly, it's very expensive and they offer NO refunds despite being incredibly inactive. However, to be fair they do offer a very short free trial w a credit card. It also would be very cool if it was more accurate, and you do have the option of adding your rock/mineral (perhaps that's the problem?!).
Reviews for Rock Identifier: Stone ID
← Back to Rock Identifier: Stone IDIf you don't have the premium you will have ads. I quickly got the paid version though as I wanted to keep my rocks in the catalog. It's a good app. Pretty accurate. Lots of helpful information. If I could make one little change I'd make it so you can put your rocks into folder types. So maybe I can sort out my hearts and towers. The 2nd thing I'd do is add an auto renumber. So when you get rid of the rock you don't have to relable all of your rocks or have the wrong # marked. Other than that ♡
First of all, there is no instructions of what to do to access the app. Second, and this is a big, bad one, you get redirected to a distribution page where you are prompted to register. There are indicators that this page is like a clearing house for multiple apps and tools, etc. So, okay. But then after entering the usual info they want a credit card number. What!? No! Third, way too many adds. Right in the middle of an action! Fourth, waaay too many typos. Trashy .
Great potential... I really want to love this app, but multiple times a day it "fails to connect" and has to be force restarted to work. If you minimize the screen while it is identifying or saving, when you come back to the screen it has errored out and you have to start the process all over again. It lists ALL rocks you save/scan to a single selection with no way to divide it up into smaller collections. This app could be amazing, but it's not quite there...
This is an amazing app. It has been very accurate so far. I'll continue testing it and will update if I find any discrepancies in its accuracy. Update: I took away 2 stars because I have some rocks in my collection that I have had for a long time. The acquisition dater needs to be updated to have the year and month/day separate so that I don't have to spend a lot of time going back to dates 40+ years ago, & if my finger slips off the back arrow onto the calendar, it goes back to today's date.
I like that you can look up your mineral/stone and get a couple of different options to choose from. Not only that.. You can also number your stones, add your stones measurements, input the price you paid for it, location you purchased said stone, and add pics, and save it all for later. This can be done w/out paying a subscription (as I do not). I don't know if there will be a limit to how many can be saved but if there is I will update my review. Thanks 😊
It says "in app purchases and contains ads." So I assumed I would get a lite version. No, it straight out of the gate forced a 7 day trial, USD2.99 weekly, OR USD5.99 monthly. So by free, they mean free to download. I think Google Play should ban this type of activity, it's misleading and I can assure you that a lot of the 1M+ downloads, were quickly removed or didn't go past the 7 day trial.
If I could rate this app in the negative, I would. This app is a waste of time and phone memory. On top of that, there is no easy way to cancel your subscription in the the app. I had to go into my Playstore to my apps, from my computer, to cancel. Google- I expect more from your company- you are suppose to keep us safe from predatory apps like these.
Downloaded app, started free trial subscription and cancelled subscription all on the same day. 7 days later, I am charged $21.09 for a one year subscription. My request for a refund was denied by Google Play (even though they cancelled my subscription as of July 22 - the same day I was charged). So they get my $20 and I get nothing. Easy to rank in the top 10 grossing when you're ripping people off this way. Notice that the developer does NOT even respond to any of the reviews left here.
DO NOT USE IT FOR THE 7 DAY FREE TRIAL, THEY CHARGE YOU IMMEDIATELY! It used to be a free app, one day I opened it up & I had to agree to the 7 day free trial (which I was going to cancel before they charged me the $30 yearly subscription). Instead, I look at my bank account later that day & they charged me which overdrafted me as well. I contacted the app immediately & they said it's not their problem. App works extremely well but will charge you& not give any free trial.
Installed it, found out I needed to sign up for a 7-day trial. Ok, I'll give it a shot...but then I was told that I have to provide payment info first, before I try the app. I'll have 7 days from activation to cancel. Forget it--really hate these "we'll hold your money hostage and hope you forget to cancel in time" schemes. This may be a wonderful app, but when the devs have so little confidence in their product that they resort to tricks, I have very little incentive to find out.
Overall I think this app is pretty nice, but I do wish there was a way to input a crystal/rock with a name that isn't in the system. I have a few that are not in the options and would like to place them in my "collection" with just the name. I know the point is to have all of the info include (chemical compound, etc) but I'd love an option where I can just custom input.
I thought this was an amazing app. Until I realized unless you sign up for the subscription you can only identify 3 photos a day. It was accurate on the 2 photos I took. The last photo I accidentally took of my pants so I hit the back button but it still counted as one of my photos. They don't mention having to pay for a subscription anywhere in there app description. You don't find out till you have already installed it. I told all my rockhounding club members to not download.
I really enjoy the app. It's nice being able to track the record of what I have found, easily document the location and day of find. My only feedback would be that it typically wants to show that even diamond registers as quartz. That is the only flaw I found so far. It is nice having a well detailed description of all the different types of Fossil, rock, and minerals.
I have tried many gem and rock identifiers. Most of them suck on average if the cameras even recognize them. I hate paying per month for anything ever, but the range of info is outstanding thus far. The camera shot has a built in flashlight button, add a wishlist, your collections, geolocale, value, worth, all the standards and then some. Good picture lists of all types for what it recognizes, plus 3 separate option possibilities and a 4th if you are still unsure to save it under.
The app scans the stone, then gives 3 different types of rock to choose from. Even when taking a second photo from the same angle, there are often different types of stone shown than what the previous photo produced. I scanned a piece of petrified wood, and it told me it was rose quartz? I've tried different angles and natural and artificial light. Maybe i'm missing something. I was expecting more accuracy, not guesses.
Great app, shady with subscription options. I did the free trial, which somehow automatically set it to charge me for a full year after the trial ends. I tried changing it to a monthly subscription 2 days before trial ends, and it wouldn't change from the annual, like the button didn't work, so I canceled my subscription instead. I would've loved to do a month for now and spring for the annual later, but it seems like the app railroads you into the annual. Apps like that never get my money, smh.
Update: My apologies. How do I find the free version? Downloaded the app because there was a free version with limited functionality. It is only free for 7 days, then it is a subscription fee. Immediately Uninstalled it. Apps should clearly disclose this in app info. I don't mind purchasing apps. Developers deserve to make money. I do not like that almost every app requires a subscription now. All those fees add up. Play Store should have a filter to select free, purchase, and/or subscription.
This is definitely one of the better rock/crystal identification apps. Other ones I've used don't even come close. I have a few crystals that I'd been having a difficult time identifying and thanks to this app I finally know exactly what I have. It's not perfect, though, it won't accurately identify my multi-stone bracelets. I already know what they are but I wanted to find out if it could get it right, it didn't. If you added that feature, that would be amazing and extremely helpful!
I like this app. the "Free" version allows you to identify rocks, and also create as collection. pretty cool. but, it's not the best at identifying rocks. I give 4 stars because the app has a place to correct them. that's cool. premium you get values and other things. but I just like my collection. full work up on the rock you enter. history, age, locations. how it's formed. very informative. and all for free. it's a keeper.
