Reviews for Route 66 Navigation

App crashes when I access another app, like camera, texting, Google Maps, phone, etc. App has often been unable to get a GPS fix. App doesn't permit user to zoom out for a larger view of the projected map. I gave up accessing recommended stops as the app requires restarting the navigation which is a tedious process.

While I appreciate that the app keeps you on 66, the app is terrible. When you're following the route and minimize the app to do anything else on your phone, when you return to the app, it's just a blank screen. You have to close, re-open, and re-load your route any time you touch your phone. Huge pain. Also, when I click points of interest along the route, it only works about 10% of the time. I just use it to cross reference with Google maps. Glad I got the app, but it should only be $20.

NOT UP TO DATE.I paid a licensing fee to use this app. The GPS is not accurate and it won't connect most of the time. This is in 5g areas. I'm very disappointed. It's not user friendly and won't let you pick points of interest along the route. It's a shame, because it's a great idea. You can't put any extra stops on the route and it doesn't show you turn by turn directions. I bought a book with a paper map of Route 66 that I'll use in connection with Google maps instead of this. *Waste of money*

My experience has not been positive, I paid the $35 for the year subscription and the location services do not work. the app says my location services are not on, but my location services are on and Google maps is working perfectly. I was really excited because I am a fan of route 66 and I'm trying to drive it today. not going to be able to use this app today. very disappointed

We have just returned riding Route 66 and used Route 66 Navigation. It was great turn by turn navigation and was 99% accurate. We never got lost and stayed on Route 66, almost never hitting a highway unless Route 66 did not exist anymore in that section. It had all the points of interests and it pops up on the screen as you approach them. It gives you 2 routes, an A and B. You can check on which route your points of interest to are. We stayed on Route A most of the days. I had my doubts before starting, but I can really recommend this application. And the price is well worth it compared to renting a pre-programmed GPS.

This app is essential. It is for the most part ok, but has some annoying deficiencies: 1. If you switch to another app, e.g. camera to take a photo, it is prone to locking up & needs to be restarted. 2. POIs under "Navigate" not related to R66 (e.g. dentists, solicitors etc!) Why are they not the same as the R66 POIs under "Menu"? 3. Sometimes refuses to navigate to a POI unless you go back to the main menu and wait for "downloading data" to complete again - repeated license check issue?

We tried using yellow route 66 app. But because we where from another country and used esim it didnt let us use it even tho we paid for 3 weeks. And we weren't able to get a refund:( so we just used the road signs. if youre gonna use it with esim you have to change your google location to America and you are not able to change it back until one year later. and its also not allowed to change it according to google policies.

Having just finished our journey of R66, we found this app invaluable. If you balance the cost of a few £ against the cost of flights/car hire/hotels etc, it's a no brainer! It's not perfect, there were missing attractions flagged up, but R66 is no different from any other road - things change. The navigation had no more problems than our other GPS that we used to find our hotels. We used a mixture of this app and Jerry McClanahan's maps, but personally I couldn't have done R66 without this app

A great app. It made our trip so much more enjoyable. There were some strange logics but otherwise, we were so happy we bought it. This is exactly the way to navigate through small cities and their downtowns if you don't want to use highways. The said-to be-the same option in Google maps (avoid highways) worked way worse. And we had two navigations open just in case and used this app almost 100% of the road

So not worth the money. Maybe if this app was free it would get 2 stars, but the navigation is basically unusable (can't click off your phone or open another screen as it doesn't continue in the background). It also can't recalculate the route very well so we ended up getting very lost a few times trying to use it. Do yourself a favor and just buy a paper map or use a free app instead of wasting your money

Very nice to locate route 66 where most books fail and no other navigation works. The biggest issue is not to be able to transfer to a device other than downloaded device and I am not sure if it would work if you were to change your phone. It is very expensive when you pay $20 for 7 days and not be able to transfer to another phone

After further consideration I will rate this three stars. I understand there was probably a lot of work that went into this app and hopefully they continue with the work. The GPS occasionally messes up but so does every other GPS I have ever used. There are definitely some bugs that need to be worked out with the audio and the app crashing. I'd also like to see some other changes ex: different colors lines for different routes; it gets confusing when both route a and b are blue

We had a few odd bugs. After recalculating, the navigation would switch from East bound to West bound. The information was also fairly outdated, including roads on the A route that are now dead ends. Overall, it's still the best app available for turn by turn navigation of old route 66, but it's no Google Maps. If you want people to keep a yearly subscription you're going to need to update it yearly.

Thanks. I'll figure it out myself. Not going to pay those kind of prices when I can find free maps all across the route. Edit: Did they delete their half true response? You can get a free map at any Route 66 museum that has almost all of these attractions. And the ones it doesn't have aren't important. Also, search for a free app for road trips that has many different trips, not just Route 66. Can't say the name here, but it shouldn't be difficult to find if you like Road Trips.

Downloaded app Purchased the year subscription. Says you can create a custom itinerary but I cant figure out how. Unless its "custom itinerary" is just regular ol navigation from one place to another. Trying to plan a trip and thought this app would help. Could have saved some money and just got the lower subscription when I make the trip. Hopefully it will at least work for navigation when I do make trip.

This app doesn't work very well, it is not user friendly for creating a planned trip ahead of time. I click navigate over and over and there is no response. I can't figure out how to create a saved trip, it won't let me start one for planning. When you click on "places to visit" and "how on map" then click "navigation" it doesn't respond. Basically this app doesn't work. I'm very disappointed I purchased an annual subscription.

This app's free features are useless. Every time you want to navigate somewhere, you hit the pay wall of $36 a year for navigation, which from reading other comments, doesn't seem to work well. So what are you paying for? The app would probably work much better if navigation would give the user the option to select whatever navigation app that they already have installed. You could still charge something to access the extensive list historic sites you have available.

App is a great idea but the constant crashes, errors, and poor navigation make it unusable! I purchased the $30 subscription for my trip but the app crashed each time I stopped at a place (or anytime I opened another app when I returned it just showed an error: Oops! We can't find your current GPS position."). It would constantly default the navigation to Berlin, Germany and it didn't show all the attractions along the route during navigation (only in the preview). The navigation had no audio alerts to let you know an attraction is coming up, or you need to make a turn, yet it is capable of sounding a chime if you exceed the speed limit. Overall very disappointed and wouldn't recommend this App for navigating Route 66.

I loved the fact that it does stick to Route 66 better than regular navigation, and tells you about the little attractions along the way, but it does go through residential neighborhoods a lot, without giving the option to stick to a main road. Plus, it was $20 for a week's access to the navigation. I understand it's a small group who is putting together and maintaining the app, but that seemed a bit much.

This was one of three apps I used on my Route 66 trip and the one that works the best. It gave navigation to the route and kept us on it. At points though the signs seemed to go one way and the directions another but not too often. Here are a couple of TIPS: 1) Download the maps. Not sure if it is entirely necessary but I would do it. 2) If it does not start navigation after a stop, go into your applications un settings and force stop the app.
