Reviews for Samsung Food: Meal Planner

← Back to Samsung Food: Meal Planner

This is one of my most used apps. So easy to save and categorize recipes you find on the web. To save recipes, just share them to the app, that easy. When you are searching for saved recipes they're easy to find since the photos are displayed nicely. You can also search for recipes within the app. When viewing a recipe there are similar recipes suggested down below. It has a meal planner which allows you to create a shopping list as well but haven't found much use for that.

I've been using this app since 2021. It was called whisk back then and the name changed wasn't necessary. (Whisk has a better ring to it) I love all the features. There have been some recent updates than have been mostly good but the one done in June of 2024 made some unnecessary changes makjng it more time consuming to view the meal plan and changes the focus from cooking to calorie counting. I shouldn't have to open a recipe, after opening that recipe, to see it! Needs more tweaks

I *love* this app! It's my #1 cooking app, I use it all the time! The layout is good, it's very easy to navigate. I can browse a mutitude of recipes for inspiration. You've got nutritional info. If there's a paywall, I haven't found it yet! My one quibble is that many, many times when I'm scrolling through instructions on the various websites, it keeps taking me back to the top every couple of seconds. Very frustrating! I've even had to just give up on some recipes because of this.

There doesn't seem to be a way to delete the "recipe" from your "plan." I tried to delete the data and cashe, but it still came back. So if you add another recipe it just add it to your meal. Like you're eating two or more meals for breakfast. 🙄 UPDATE: I FINALLY figured out how to delete a recipe. But the whole app is clunky and not usable. The concept is exciting, but there's TOO many cumbersome redundant steps to get from a recipe to a meal plan and then to a shopping list. Back to analog!

I downloaded this app to compare it to an existing app that changed how you can browse for recipes. I like that there are different ways to browse and that you can explore "communities". Recipes can also be easily edited. I definitely will use the lists to go grocery shopping. I would suggest a way to recategorize items. For example, I would want to move tomato paste to canned goods instead of condiments. I would love to calorie count off of the meal planner and sync to health.

This app was ruined the moment you revamped it from "Whisk" to "Samsung Food". It went from a 5 star, most used app by me, to me throwing it in the trash and mourning my loss of one of the best apps ever. I checked back a year later to only see it's gotten even worse. Creating a recipe from scratch or a website is a nightmare, definitely not straightforward by any means. Any form of organization and anything that matters is out the window. Also, the new name is TRASH. Don't waste your time.

ive had this app for YEARS. then after samsung bought it, they have completely ruined it. It was simple, straight forward and had what you needed for planning, shopping and recipes. now they added folder after folder. you have click into multiple folders to find shopping list, or find the meals you've added to your weekly plan. some of my recipes have disappeared, it is highly over complicated and none of the things they've added are useful. new design sucks and there's lots of adds now

Love this app!! We love trying new cuisines, and this app is perfect for that. You can search recipes based on cuisine, diet, meal type, and more; you can curate your "home feed" based on diet & household members; you can adjust output quantity; it has a shopping list that is easy to use and sorts items for you; it has a planner for you to keep track of when and what you cook; there's a community aspect to connect with others; and there's always something new to find. Can't recommend enough!!

CONS: 1 - Must have an account to VIEW the app. 2 - You can deselect, but people & sites are immediately added to your acct. 3 - $60 per year 4 - Free can save only 3? recipes. 5 - Way too social. 6 - Must PAY for BASIC features. 7 - Too in your face. Pros: 1 - There are recipes. 2 - You can organize recipes. 3 - I think you can create shopping lists.

Loved the app until a recent update removed the ability to add the links to the meal recipes at the top of the shopping list. The only apparent way to see whether the item on the shopping list is part of a recipe is to uncheck any checked items and then select them individually. Why can't I just use the link to the recipe when it's time to make it from my shopping list? I don't always make the exact meal on a specific day so I don't use the meal prep function.

I've been using this app since before Samsung acquired it, back when it was called Whisk. I absolutely love this app! I save recipes easily several times a week and love how easy it is to use for managing recipes. Now that advertisements have been removed, I have zero complaints. Easily the best meal planning and recipe management app I've ever used.

Awesome variety of recipes, easy to understand, and very user-friendly for the most part. My only complaint is adding your own recipes to the app. It seemed easy at first, but listing ingredients and directions proved confusing and time-consuming; I never fully finished adding a simple recipe for nachos. Other than that small hiccup, 5 stars! Better than all the other similar apps out there!

it's got performance issues, but it's helped me enough that I'll still give it five stars. I've been using the free version every weekday for weeks. It has really gotten me out of a cooking funk by introducing me to new recipes and helped me plan meals for all week. There's plenty to do and use in the free version and I keep recommending it to people.

I can collect recipes and manage my shopping list from the same app, with all the features you'd want, and it works really well. I've been able to completely take control of my home's grocery budget and make sure we all have home-cooked meals 6 nights a week, saving us money and making our lives better. Most useful app I've ever used.

I ended up uninstalling this app. I've been using it for years without a problem and thought it a great place for storing recipes. However, now that they have turned add free I find I can't store many of the recipes I want to. I contacted them asking why and received this long drawn out list of steps to figure out the problem. Don't have time for that. Very disappointed. I'll go back to saving recipes on my phone I guess.

This app was so much better when it was Whisk. I cannot simply share a recipe from my browser to the app, it does nothing. I have to copy and paste the URL. It pulls ingredients lists in the most bizarre way where it takes the first ingredient then nests the rest underneath it instead of listing each individual ingredient. Also, can't view instructions in the app, it sends you to the spam filled near impossible to read original webpage the recipe came from. Yuck.

Absolute best app I have downloaded on my phone. It does everything I need it to and more. I swear they thought of everything with this app. The fact that I can save recipes from any website, edit out ingredients I don't like (namely mushrooms an olives) and then add it all to my shopping list with one button is an absolute game changer. Not to mention, being able to separate out my recipes into collections and having the option to meal plan. Best. App. Ever.

This app is missing the ability in planner to specify how many servings of a recipe I will eat, which throws off the nutritional calculator (the main appeal of the app to me). Additionally, why can I not use Samsung health to tell Samsung food what I ate? The list of foods and ability to add custom foods in Samsung health is in my opinion better and easier. Feels like a no brainer and yet I can't. Also in my opinion the UI is clunky and unintuitive.

Love love LOVE this app! Just a little bit of constructive criticism... It's annoyingly complicated to navigate to my saved recipes (lots of clicks to pull one up). I wish there was a link directly to my collections from the start page. I also wish it had the ability to store PDF recipes or screenshots since I have a ton that I either didn't get online or can no longer locate online. It makes me a little nervous that if a recipe is removed from the internet, I assume it'll be gone from the app.

Mostly love it. I love searching for recipes by ingredients, types of diet, length of time to make it, etc. My biggest struggle is it doesn't realize what "gluten free" is in the search. I'll search and it gives me a lot of recipes containing flour. But love I can meal plan, save recipes, add recipes, and items to a list, and look at the list by recipe or by all of them combined. Overall, I recommend this app and it helps when I use it. 5 stars if they fix the search function.
