So here's my honest take on Seek by iNaturalist. I've tested a bunch of nature/outdoors apps and this one's pretty solid. The image recognition works surprisingly well most of the time and it's cool to see what other people have spotted in your area. The badge challenges add a fun little game element too. But it's not without its issues - the app can be glitchy at times and the IDs aren't 100% accurate. Still, for a free app it's pretty impressive and a great way to get more connected to the natural world around you.

Description

Been using Seek by iNaturalist for a couple months now. It’s basically an app that uses image recognition to help you identify the plants, animals, and other nature stuff you come across when you’re outside. Pretty solid app if you’re into that kind of thing.

Here’s what you do: you just open the Seek camera and point it at a flower, bug, or whatever and it’ll show you what it thinks it is. There’s also a map feature that lets you see what other people have spotted in your area. And there are these challenges where you can earn badges for finding different types of species – that’s kinda fun.

Look, if you’re into learning about nature and the outdoors, you’ll probably like this. It’s not perfect – the identification isn’t always spot on and the app can be a bit buggy sometimes – but overall it does the job. Worth checking out if you want to get more in touch with the wildlife around you.

This app struggled to identify the simplest things. A perfectly clear shot of a blue Jay, that might be a bird. A picture of a squirrel, well, it's definitely an...

This is still my favorite species identification app, but it seems development is getting a bit stale. It crashes and freezes frequently, tested across three different phones. The achievements max...
