Another very trustworthy option in building your credit score. No BS no scams. This app combined with a few others allowed me to buy my home. The credit card they offer ain't bad for raising your credit. The annual payment is once a year instead of some cards with monthly payments regardless of weather you use them or not. If this is your first credit card your paying about $3 a month for the card. you can control the credit limit though, no one can stop you! I love this app.
Reviews for Self – Credit Builder & Cash
Terrible, almost every I have to pay more than the normal amount because of a "failed payment" after the fact I have money on my account and have been using the same account since I started using it. Now it's making me pay 3x the amount after every failed payment after doing manual payments, its still counting them as failed and charging me even more. Not even worth it. 5 months later, and still does the same thing. I didn't owe until sept, checked the app now I owe 3x normal rate, thanks self
I never rate things, but Self is worth it. I filed for bankruptcy in 2018 and was later able to get a small reverse loan from Self that boosted my credit score as I paid. When I paid it off I was able to roll over $100 of it into a secure credit card and every few weeks/months the credit limit increases. I'm now up to a credit score of 706 thanks to that (previously in the 500's). If you have poor credit, I cannot recommend Self enough.
I'm not a financial expert, but their credit builder program is easy to use and great for saving money and building credit simultaneously. If you can make enough money each month for a year to afford setting aside money, I highly recommend it. I made every "payment" on time so I don't know what happens if you miss a payment, but it boosted my credit score over 100 points, and all the payments I made get sent back to me in one lump sum after the year ends. I think it is some form of CD account?
I've been trying to cancel this credit card... I made a payment over a week ago and it's still "pending" despite being cleared from my bank for days. Getting in touch with a person is IMPOSSIBLE. I've just been blasting emails to cancel this card and about to contact credit agencies if I don't get a response from them within 24 hours. It's good for building credit to a sense. But they are incredibly predatory, don't provide comprehensive support. There are much better ways to build credit
One it's hard for their is no way to get in touch with customer service in the app, two it seems like a scam because because what they say is my credit score with TransUnion is low then what my bank say it is at TransUnion, but if I pay them 49.99, a one time fee, that they report to all three credit bureau's every time I have paid my cell phone, utility bill and my rent on the last 24 months. So I feel like it is miss leading and they can't guarantee that it will help with your score. Do better
It works! I signed up for the 12 month program. The program did what it was supposed to do. I saved money & raised my credit score accordingly. But, as soon as I was done & the account closed, my score dropped, which I now know is common when an account is closed, especially if the account was less than 2 years old. Not necessarily Self's fault but would I have known that, I wouldn't have signed up. Feels like I wasted a year. Sign up for 2 years and take advantage of elevated score asap.
Has improved my score. However, the consistency of your payments, processing, applying to your account is lacking. Make your payment, it processes through your bank account and sometimes it takes up to 12 days before being applied to either of your accounts. That is the longest it has taken for me on a few instances. Occasionally during that time frame, since their system hasn't updated your account it will show that either a payment was missed or card utilization is high!Thats a lie response!
Definitely helped my credit ... Only issue I have with them, and reason I gave one less star... To pay with your debit card it's super fast, but costs every single time you pay the cc or pay the loan payment, but if you try to save and pay with your routing and account number, it takes like 7-21 days to post on the account even though you can see they removed the money from your account. That sucks because then it shows a higher usage on your credit report, even though you already paid it off.
App is fine. Customer service is almost non-existent and uncaring during their limited hours. I'm a long time customer. I've been waiting 2 mos for a card, after paying hefty annual fee. They refused to send card expedited. Didn't want to spend the $4. Do yourself a favor. They have competitors now that actually provide customer service. Go with them.
