Reviews for Session - Private Messenger

← Back to Session - Private Messenger

Messages and notifications come in extremely delayed after the other party responds, takes about 10-15 minutes for them to come through on my end sometimes. Kind of frustrating during an active conversation.

It was a little confusing getting it set up, but once we figured out how it works, it's awesome! I am using it mainly at work on wifi only as I cannot get this phone to work with the carrier it is locked to. Session is a great solution to this situation.

There was an update that broke my PC version for a day, followed by a newer versinversion. Unfortunately the linux version is a .run file. Each update has a new name which makes autostart a pain. So it isn't perfect, but I have found it to be good and works well.

I really love using Session, but I’d like to raise a feature request. Please consider adding typing indicators and message seen receipts, so that both sender and receiver can know when the other is typing and when messages have been read. I send thousands of messages, but there’s currently no way to see if the other person is typing or has seen them. This would greatly improve the chat experience.

It's a nice instant messaging App. I would like to point out two things; i suppose the Account ID should be short for easy memorization also a user should be allowed to create a password of his choice.

Pros: Completely anonymous & secure messenger. Highly recommended! Cons: Call quality & connecting speed could be better. Files size more than 10 MB can't be sent. No option to edit sent messages. So please improve these limits as well.

impossible to know if you sent the message, needs at least 10 tries to send it and to top it off the recipient might not even get the message hours or days later. Doesnt seem like they do anything to fix it, only getting worse. not recommended. And no i will not contact your support for a failure from your side.

Pretty good. I like that it's secure. It doesn't always auto-scroll down to new messages as they come in, seems a bit laggy sometimes, and it could use an easy way to set a specific notification sound for it instead of a generic announcement tone.

App's great n all but... you realize the issue with the recovery phrase right? It's very long and random for sure, but there's actually no way of knowing if it's been compromised, and the one phrase works for all devices related to your account. A compromised recovery phrase is a major issue that it doesn't seem like the devs here even thought about.

Chatting experience is good. Ability to signup without phone number is highlight of app but it seriously lacks video and audio calling capabilities. Also there is a limit of 10MB for sending files, which is very small. It should be at least 100MB. It is good for very basic chatting, due to those reasons I don't think most of my friends will be switching to this app.

Something's happened - App is not as reliable as it once was. Not reliably getting notifications any more. Not related to the Android app, but the constant stream of security warnings for the past year, from Malwarebytes, on my PC are concerning, and annoying. Needed feature - being able to assign Session a different audible alert from the generic one Android gives everything that has no capability fir customization.

When my friends noticed that telegram had a report option, we realized that we needed an alternative. Signal is centralized so that didn't seem like a reliable long-term option, and it requires a phone number. We ended up going with session and it surpassed our expectations. I highly recommend it for people looking to utilize cutting edge technology that respects privacy and anonymity.

Users should be warned that your Disappearing Message may not always disappear on the recipient device. I started to report this serious issue in github and found it had been reported 2 years ago and is still unaddressed. Also, Disappearing Photos can be saved by the recipient. I love the privacy of not having to provide my email or phone number, but the problems with Disappearing Messages don't give me a lot of confidence.

I love this app! Lousy ratings for it? Come on! This app is the best security conscious communicator available. In. The. World. #2 is Signal. Signal requires a phone number. Session does not. Signal is centralized. Session is not. The app organization is good. The colors are good. The format is simple. I can even make calls. It syncs with my desktop. What more do you want for the most secure, the most private communicator? Free? Wait, it is free. Shout out to the developers!

I just found Session and decided to give it a try. First impression is that it is good concept, but very buggy. Everytime I open the app it is slow to load and then I get a system message that isn't responding and I can either wait or close the app. The other issue is when I try to add contacts it always says an error has occurred. I know I'm not typing their number incorrectly, because I copy and paste. I'm using a Motorola G Pure with Android 11.

I like the concept of this app, but I keep on having to clear my data almost daily because after a certain point my messages fail to send. I'm really tired of having to constantly use my recovery phrase and wait for the most recent messages to be pulled up. Also, it takes forever to get the most recent messages pulled up afterward. It cycles through days of messages as opposed to quickly bringing up where I left off before I had to clear the data. Please fix these issues. I really like it.

Literally everything is broken now...I don't know what's happened over the last couple of weeks, but the app is unusable. People that are showing up as members of groups cannot see the group. People that you remove from the group can still access it. Notifications for groups are non-existent and not working too well for individual messaging. Audio messages not sending, recipients can't load them if they do send. Honestly I think your app has been sabotaged. Apple and Android both affected.

Everything was great until maybe almost two weeks ago. All of of sudden, it,session, stopped working. I'd have to close and go back, but it wouldn't restart right away. Kept shutting down. Once it got going it would go ok until I two or more chats going, then it would do it some more....stop running. Got frustrating. I'd clear my data, basically just start all over. Work very briefly then would stop running again. Just a few hours ago,I uninstalled the app, the installed it again, didn't help

Session was great until I got added to a group chat that was just posting child porn. I coule find no way to report that. I could get each individual person's ID and submit each to a tip line, but there's no way to link the full group, and no way to report them or the entire group on the app itself. I can block them and that's it. The app itself is fine. But the devs shouldn't allow something like that to go on on their app.

no notifications ever come through. on either side doesn't work on my android or my iphone. When you close the app, please fix. Edit to your reply. I do not use the app any longer .I used the fast mode and also set everything according to what i do know for my device to receive message notifications, also the app on ios had the same issue. Also the person I was chatting with also (android) never received notifications on their device until they opened the app.
