Reviews for Shonen Jump Manga & Comics

I have a subscription on an iOS device, and after signing in to the Google app, it allows me to use my subscription here too. However, the Google app isn't as good as the iOS one, which tracks the series you've read and creates a separate list on the home screen so you can easily see which series have been updated and what you last read. Although the subscription transferred after sign-in, my reading history didn't. I will increase my rating if they can sync accounts across all devices.

The amount of manga I read every month definitely pays for itself. it's easier than using free websites, and less spammy and ad ridden. could use a bigger selection. I'm forgetting a lot of things I used to read on my phone because they're simply not available. but still a good selection. definitely worth the minimal payment a month. saved me many a time from severe boredom.

Severely lacking in features. No bookmarking, "continue reading" does not persist between devices meaning all progress is lost on a new phone, no way to remove anything from your "continue reading" if you don't like it, search is only A-Z (no sorting by genre, artist, included in subscription, etc). Price is good but I'd easily pay a few bucks more for a proper app with these features.

The subscription service is cool and I love the idea, but the actual manga reader in the app is lacking a lot. Would really like a way to keep a list of manga I'm reading, and customization for the reader party of the app. Like scrolling instead of just one page at a time or other ways to make it feel better to read on a phone. I love Shonen Jump, but I'm not sure huge fan of their app.... Yet....

It works, but not as good as it's less legit competitors. I really want to support Shonen Jump, but the app doesn't allow my preferred reading style. (can't change page turning options or set it to scroll to next page). Landscape orientation also forces you into a two page screen. Tachiyomi is still the way to go. I will still buy a membership just to support them, but I really hope they improve the app. It doesn't even allow my tablet to install it. The chapters are always one week behind less legit releases. However, the app and membership is an extremely good value if you don't mind the restrictive reading style. It's a good app, give it a try.

The subscription is an absolutely amazing deal, would absolutely go up to 5 stars if they were to just add a few features and changes. It feels weird that there isn't a favorite feature, so you can't add manga to it for if you want to read it later. I don't like that in order to download chapters, you HAVE to select every chapter individually, instead of being able to mass select chapters. The zooming when reading is really awkward. Also, add the ability to view 2-page spread art at once

The app has an extensive list of manga for an affordable price, though I wish there was the option of a yearly subscription. Other than there not being a yearly subscription option, which is a minor nitpick, I only have two other complaints. The first is the lack of targeted zooming. I'm either looking at the "page" awkwardly or it's beamed directly in my eye holes. The second is the transition page. it just seems clunky every time I go to another chapter (again, minor). Overall, I like the app.

It's great, when it works, but half the time, it malfunctions; it'll suddenly freeze or crash, it'll keep me signed in but deny me accesses to the content as though I weren't, etc. Additionally, there's no function for syncing across multiple devices nor even between the app and the website. I have to make a mental note if where I am when I leave my computer so that I can continue reading from my phone. Lastly, the bookmark feature is only useful for the current chapter, which is pointless.

I've been a subscriber for years, and the new manga available is amazing. I've been trumpeting it on every platform available... but come this update, I can't recommend it anymore. There is no search function, no way to add a favorite, no way to bookmark, no way to show you've read a chapter. There's a giant backlog and no good way to read through it. These are basic functions in every reader app, including Crunchyroll. I want this to succeed, but for me, it's unusable right now.

Would be great with tweaks, but is missing essential features that are offered at even the lowest of 3rd party sites/apps. There is no "favorites" option where you can easily access and keep track of manga you read. You have to just remember what chapter you read previously, so if you read multiple manga at a time, it's easy to lose track. There's no search function. you have to find whatever manga you want to read through an alphabetical list. Plus they limit downloads even when you pay.

App could be simplified a lot more. after reading 1 chapter it takes you out of the whole book rather than continuing onto the next chapter. then you must manually click to unlock it. I think this is poor, & immersion breaking for the story. My other gripe would be how they have all these other "novels" you can sample but can't actually read. Only buy. Lastly random pages just don't load for a chapter, which is terrible cause I'm forced to skip them. I have full 5g service. Clearly the apps bugy

5 stars from happiness gained in having access to my favorite manga, but the app itself if VERY barebones. No categories, no rhyme or reason to the content it displays for recommendation, and the only way to find what you're looking for (if available) is with the search tool. App needs a Major UI overhaul. You'll find MOST of the poor reviews to be due to this glaring fact. But a few bucks a month for full access to authentic original Manga? I will be a customer for the foreseeable future.

So, I've read manga using free apps for years, and I have to say that Shonen Jump needs to download one and check out their API to see how they do things. There's no watchlist feature for tracking your favorite series, no "Continue Reading" option to easily jump back in to a series they're diving into the archives for, and the notifications for new chapters dropping is very sporadic. SJ, please put a little more focus on this app. Digital reading is the future, don't fall behind the curve!

Update for 2024, I keep getting loading errors. There will be a white page and then I have to go in and out to get it to load. This is while home on a very fast Internet connection. I love that they have updated the subscription model and have access to back issues. However, the format in the app is borderline unusable. No way to favorite series. No way to continue where I was reading before. When a series has 100+ comics, there is no way I am going to remember where I left off.

the price of the membership is great. but here are the problems (1) the biggest problem for me is that the quality of the photos is not always amazing some of the manga have bad quality. (2) the app looks and feel empty, the design is outdated. And you have no controls ( for example, you can't change the view to be scroll down instead of flipping the page).(3) where is gintama, there is some missing shonen Jump mangas.

No limits on reading, just the 100 downloads you can keep across your devices. Which, honestly, is very fair. I would struggle to read 100 chapters in a week, so planning out downloads before a flight or some other non-internet situation would be easy enough to plan for. Anyways, unlimited chapters makes this all the more worth it, even with the dollar increase in price come August.

Normally, I have this at 5 stars, but I've run into something really irritating. So, my card expired, and I forgot to update my payment method after getting a new one. I tried to reactivate my subscription on the website, but it can only be done via the phone app. The thing is I now own a flip phone, and I can only read it on the PC web browser, so I can't reactivate my subscription. Great service, I am frustrated I can't use it anymore.

The UI/UX of this app is very bland and convoluted at the same time, but what's drawn me to give this such a low rating is the constant increase in price. Yes, I know it's still low, but who's to say that the price won't jump next year and the year after? It's bad enough Viz Media split into two separate apps with two separate subscriptions and accounts needed, now we got this going on? No thank you.

Might be better on a tablet. Inability to cleanly zoom on phone is a pain. Constant reminders about scrolling the wrong way is infuriating. Can't go back a few pages to look for something without being called an idiot by the app. Read thousands of chapters in the app and it still treats you like it's your first rodeo. Also, any manga you follow that doesn't have a new chapter available has to be searched for, there's no real dashboard aside from "favorites" list that requires manually adding to.

Love the app so far! Not sure what all the negative reviews are about, but the app is great. I pay instead of using the free version so maybe that's why. It's worth paying a few dollars a month. It saves your progess so it's easy to pick up where you last left off. For ppl complaining that it's hard to zoom in on pages, you just have to hold both your fingers down on the page & move them outward a little bit, the longer you hold your fingers down, the more it zooms in. Have a great selection!
