Great app that helps with finding recipes, planning meals and creating shopping lists. I like that you get the option to create your own recipes too, and also choose which ingredients in the recipes you want to add to your shopping list. Just a couple of issues that make it annoying sometimes: choosing dates in meal plan, and the app freezes sometimes.
Reviews for SideChef: Recipes & Meal Plans
← Back to SideChef: Recipes & Meal Plansi love how simple the ui is, the ingredient nutritional info pages are really great too, i appreciate the no bs approach. i just have a few suggestions. when i added ingredients to my pantry, i expected to be able to also enter the amount i have, so that the app would know to not add to cart what i already have if its enough for the recipe, or at least have a little disclaimer that i do have that ingredient. would love that feature in the future! also the ingredient list could be improved too 🩷
Not a good meal planning app. Black pepper can be in 4 recipes, and end up in your cart 4 times. Not any clear way to condense like items. Not any clear way to mark items as in your pantry. Seems to add items to my cart even if unchecked,? Browsing recipes is also a mess, doesn't feel good. Seems to be a Walmart companion app but doesn't consider if my store would even have something in stock (fresh herbs, collards, special seasonings, grains). 2 stars for stability + not blowing up my phone
I have tried multiple cooking app. I have enjoyed many of them. This app however is my favorite. It does a lot of things other apps also do, only better. The meal planning, shopping list, recepe books and ways of finding fun recipes are all wonderful and better than any other cooking app. Even the format to reading the recipe is different, easier, and over all better than any other app I have tried. I have so much I want to say about this app but am out of room so just try it for yourself!
5-star features, like the meal planning calendar and the step-by-step recipes, make this a super helpful & useful cooking app!...but it's slowness is frustrating. It takes longer than it should for each new screen to load and the transitions in general are way too long. In a vacuum it's doable, but when actually using the app it just feels really sluggish. Also, I can't figure out how to remove meals from a plan? It's features keep it at 3*, in hopes that the issues will be ironed out soon.
I love this app for its recommendations on food and the ability to find low cost meals per serving. Price checking with local Walmarts is an added benefit. I would have given SideChef 5 stars with the pantry sync and ability to find recipes based on ingredients you currently have. However I have run into one bug so far and that is the meal planning not loading at all. Adding name brand items to your pantry can be a pain but all that matters truly is that you know they are there.
Best app for meal planning, finding new recipes or finding your old favorites. Lots of options to filter recipes for different diets or eating styles. As well as recipes that contain your allergens. You enter your favorites and it makes suggestions based off all your preferences. It also sets goals about whether you want to learn to cook, learn to cook on a budget, or eat healthy.
The ingredients listed to add to shopping cart aren't the same as the ones in the recipe. I get that they want to partner with Walmart or whatever, but a pork loin chop isn't the lamb chop in the literal title of the recipe. Just let us make lists of ingredients instead of adding to a cart. I can do that on my own. You're making a convenience inconvenient.
Your app is okay but for me it is missing some key features. It would be nice to have a pantry where I could add the items that I already have into a list as well as I details like expiration dates to keep my produce fresh. Possibly suggest receipes with the ingredients I have. Also I noticed that unless the ingredients is worded correctly or on your list you cannot save it which I don't like as sometimes I use ingredients that are not available on your app.
I love this app! It took awhile to get used to but once I changed my mind set it's very good. I usually shop a couple of times a week, and other apps have forced me into saving all the ingredients into the grocery list once you make your weekly plan. You can still do that, but this app will let you just put the days you will be shopping for into the list. The format of the recipes I think needs some work but that may just be me
Just accessing the app for the first time now. Seems to be useful and functional. So far, I really like the ability to create easy-to-reference grocery lists. Can't wait to get shopping and cooking! Will update rating with use. A few suggestions: - I'd love to see more slow cooker recipes. - When removing an item from the shopping list, I wish there was an "Undo" feature. - I wish I could add web links to recipes I find elsewhere to my meal plan. - Any plans to work with Instacart?
So helpful! Has revolutionized my approach to cooking/groceries and empowered me to grow! One thing that I would love to see is the ability to add your own notes to saved recipes. "Husband thought it needed more seasoning", "Add extra beans", "Great leftovers!" etc. Would be very helpful when you make a recipe again. Absolutely terrific app 👍🏼
This isn't a meal planner. For some reason you have to sign up. After that you are given the option of what you would like from the app, meal planning, eating on a budget, etc. Then you can tell them food allergies and aversions. So I checked nuts (allergy) and mushroom (just don't like them) One of the first suggested recipes is something with mushrooms and pistachios. This is just another recipe app, which can be found anywhere on the internet.
As a full time mom and a full time employee, this app has been a life saver on extra busy weeks. I can access the recipes from a computer or my phone, adjust for number of servings, uncheck what I don't need, and send the list to my store. They shop for me and bring everything to my trunk. I get to spend the time I would be spending at the store interacting with my kids and cooking something new for them to try. They're so much more willing to try new things. Love this app.
I love the recipes, collections, and articles that come from this app. With the addition of meal plans, shopping list, and shopping from Amazon features, there is no way I couldn't give it less than 5 stars. I can't wait to see what other quality of life changes they make in the future. Maybe a serving size adjuster? Edit: Don't know how I missed that! I do see the serving size adjuster now. Thank you for the quick reply!
Love this app it makes cooking and shopping so much easier. Hours spent at the store have turned to 10 minutes for pickups. I don't have to search for recipes then write it all down and check off a list. Just pick the recipes I want then order them. Awesome I was so surprised thus app is free!! I've recommended it to plenty of family and friends truly a time and money saver.
Love it! Meal planning is a breeze with the feature. Helps keep me on track with time, financial, and health goals. The availabilty of so many different recipes keeps the palate from boredom while pursuing goals. I used it reviously on my Lg app.I would have given 5 stars but my order did not sync to the cart in the Walmart app so had to manually add each item. Also, staple pantry ingredients such as salt, pepper, and oil should populate differently where you check only if needed.
I do like the assessment phase of your app. where you choose a specific diet, and your food prefrences. Develop that further to include other diets. But when entering a recipe of your own creation, it does not allow a range of food choices. such as, "1 cup chopped ham, crumbled bacon or breakfast sausage". it only allows the selection of one ingredient. And there is no place to save the instructions for the recipe, which leaves the recipe incomplete. Only for a very basic list of ingredients.
Truly one of the best recipe apps I have used and during stay-at-home, I have tried a lot and none come close to sidechef. So many great recipes that can be curated by levels of difficulty, ingredients, cuisine, dish type, diet, etc. I've only used the free version and it's impressive. My only minor suggestion is if you could customize your grocery store. Currently it only offers Walmart, which is not my preferred store. Shout-out to HEB!
I've been using sidechef for years now and while running into the occasional issue it was never unusable. However the past few weeks the recipes no longer save into the grocery list which causes a lot of back and forth through individual recipes to figure out what I need. I've tried to delete and reinstall the app with no success. I'm hoping this can get fixed soon!
