I love the app but I have tried the call and video feature with no luck. It will connect but will start showing that it is trying to reconnect amd then drops. a couple times the phone call connected but they said they couldn't hear me. Any suggestions? Also, for the past few months have been experiencing lengthy delays in text messages going through. we have looked at our settings and they are set right. I use and android phone and they have a iPhone. Again and suggestions?
Reviews for Signal Private Messenger
← Back to Signal Private MessengerIt's secure and useful. Unlike an SMS messaging app, you can add people to group chats and take people off without creating a new chat each time, there's no spam, you can name chats according to their function instead of just having a list of names or phone numbers to tell chats apart, and there's no length limit on texts. I use it with family, which keeps the family texts in a separate app from work, junk, automated, or friend texts. My only complaint is there's no voicemail, just voice texts.
They added suggested responses to messages, which is standard for most messaging apps. Unfortunately, they are intrusive (difficult to dismiss) and usually end up popping into my message. I can't count the number of times I have to erase them before I can send the message that I want. There is no way to turn this feature off. I sent a message to the support team with no response. I only change my review because it is a daily annoyance.
Secure text that doesn't require an email address to sign up for a login. That's a win! The security comes first with this app, which means it is harder to do some simple things like switching phones, and impossible to do others, like using the service on multiple devices. This app is mobile first. Wish there was a mobile version of the desktop app, so multiple devices could work at the same time.
Signal is your #1 choice for privacy! This is the best free app for fully encrypted end-to-end messaging. They don't store any data on you, and they have coded the app specifically to keep data out of their hands. The interface is sleek, responsive and user friendly. Any quibble I have with the app is the natural result of using an app that ensures privacy over convenience. I'd love message recovery, but the app would have to surrender end-to-end encryption to deliver a solution.
A nice alternative to other messaging apps. However, I frequently experience issues with missed notifications, calls don't always ring, call quality can be poor/average, and on occasion, messages don't appear for a period of time (up to 30 minutes). The message then suddenly appears dated/timed 30 minutes prior.
Signal is great, but Google and Apple made it so you cannot use it as a primary messaging app. Now I have to confirm whether my friends have Signal before I message them. Signal has added some unnecessary features, like stories, and I don't think they should try to compete with the less secure messaging systems. Just be you, Signal. You are great as you are.
Excellent messaging app. While I'd like for it to do all messaging (i.e. SMS), there's no better encrypted messaging app available. The only way to make it better would be if it still allowed messaging to/from those who do not use Signal. Also, there are frequent delays in receiving messages between users. Still worthy of a 3☆ rating, although I want it to be a 5☆ app. Gotta be honest, though, and the issues are too significant to ignore.
This app is extremely easy to use and to add photos to your text messages. A keyboard integrates with it easily making it quick and efficient typing out your messages (bluetooth). I was hesitatnt to use it at first, but did resarch on this application. After research, I did not hesitate to start using it. I have not been disappointed.
The lag that occurs when trying to send/receive messages - when it happens, it's at the worst times. The devs barely acknowledge it and say it's the users' fault, even though it happens across multiple devices and various types of networks, even when the devices are on the same network. But yeah totally not the app's issue at all.
I am a long time user of Signal and I generally like it, but the transfer process to move it to a new Android phone is counterintuitive and buggy. If the transfer process fails, it locks you out of your old phone... even if you know your passphrase. The only reliable method is to move over a backup file, but even in that case there are two different pass phrases, one numeric with 30 digits and the other alphanumeric with 64 chars and it isn't always clear which one you need to enter.
This app is awesome. Excellent end-to-end encrypted messager, plenty of features and very secure. No records (no one but you and the person you are messaging have the encryption key) and a desktop client to boot. Free, but servers and development are donation-supported. More than likely, if you aren't paying for a service with money, you are paying with your personal data. Signal doesn't do that.
6/2023: I've had a few months of a weird glitch where no notifications come through unless I manually open the app. It's happening on all three separate accounts. Very frustrating. There doesn't seem to be an update to fix the issue? Prior review: So far this has been great. The things I text about don't pop up as advertisements on my phone later! 😍
It's way much better than Whatsapp and Google Chats. The lock 🔒 messages icon showed me after I sent messages, and NO ONE won't be able to see it. That made me feel better. I like to keep it confident. NEW UPDATED 10-2-25 I am struggling to scan my QR from my iPad to link to my phone. my phone number is no longer in services with T-mobile. Even though I still use the Signal app on my laptop and iPad, that works. BUT won't let me to linked to my phone.
Big fan of signal, I really appreciate the privacy and security. I've never had issues with the app, I recently did get a new phone and was unable to transfer over my previous chat threads. I followed the directions to transfer the data from my previous phone, but it did not work after several attempts. I had to add back all of my contacts and start new chats. Slight inconvenience, but atleast I remembered to save the #s and add them back.
Great connecting app. Working well for what I need. We use this as the primary messaging app for church. It works great for forming and managing groups. You can easily make new groups, have someone leave the group, change several people if you want. Theie safety privacy concerns are great, but it does make backups a little bit more complicated. I just changed phones recently & I will say that the process of moving over to a new phone has gotten easier. M conversations moved over with me
Love signal! however I've noticed a bug to PLEASE FIX♥️: the calls do NOT ring, even with notifications on in the app, and in settings, and the phone in full ring mode. it's very frustrating because I keep missing calls. DEVELOPERS, PLEASE FIX AND I'LL BE VERY VERY GRATEFUL. i use it for a lot of my messaging and it's easy to back up messages.
It's encrypted end-to-end by default. It's free (made by a nonprofit). It's not owned by FB, G, or any other big ad pusher. And it does text, voice, and video. (Missing feature: "Mark as Unread"; I find I often take a quick peek at a message and find that it requires a lengthy reply that I didn't have time to write at the moment, but then forget to come back to it until much later.)
Military preferred. Not great, but standardized. It seems like the encryption slows down it's performance. There are times when we have a message sent to us and the next day we say "No Sergeant, we didn't receive anything." Then 20 minutes later we all hear our phones chime at the same time for the late message. Then phone calls will not work properly. Usually we hang up and try via our non-encrypted apps which work just fine. This app also doesn't like hands free driving. (Still the same.)
good app, but asked for a rating. I'll let it pass the first time but it's minus 1 star each time after that. things to know: -it requires a phone number to make an account. -signal is a not-for-profit entity or some kind, they will remind you repeatedly. -you can't find groups, only be invited to them via a link. I have not found a site with public groups. -it is secure enough for most normal people -changing or adding a device will cause some extra steps or confusion for your friends.
