-This is a genuine review. This is the best Free Scanner App I found on the play store. -It has ads but, they only appear like once every time you use the app. It has a premium option. -This app stores your scanned documents in the app/phone files. I don't know if it has a storage limit but, I haven't reached any limit. To send multiple photos in 1 PDF you just keep taking pics while under that "folder". -When you are done scanning you just email it to yourself. Premium gives you more options
Reviews for Simple Scan - PDF Scanner App
← Back to Simple Scan - PDF Scanner AppBest Scanner App on the Market!!! I've been using this scanner app for like 4 years now and it's great!! Super quick and easy to use, and you can even upload directly to Canvas which makes turning in assignments on paper easy. I've never made a review for an app before but I love this app so much that it just felt right. If you need something to turn your paper documents into PDFs easily, this is the app for you!
I think this is a simple to use and effective PDF document creater, when you want to take a picture of a document with your smart phone and have it saved as a PDF file that can be opened with a PDF viewer / editor on a Mac or PC device. While it seems to be ad free, I have found that you have an option to "watch ads" to earn points that can be used for sending faxes, and other useful things that are "features" of this app. I wish there was a straight forward, ad free, full featured, Pro version.
Good in that it does indeed fax documents. However, I can never get documents to upload to cloud storage, and as of late, it's no longer reminding me to check in for extra the daily extra credit. I've checked settings and app is updated, so it's not a problem on my end. But it does fax and doesn't cost too much to do so (credits are relatively inexpensive and easy to earn for free).
Great app, very easy to use and send PDF files to email etc, BUT... Word of warning (& why I've removed 2 stars) it will happily let you scan several documents for free then WITH NO WARNING) the entire app will lock down, you can't scan any documents or access any previously scanned documents and you HAVE TO PAY. It's not the paying that I object to as it's exactly what I need and I now have the paid version, it's the not having any warning or the option to still access previous scans.
First use tried to push me to the paid version. Popped up a screen to rate but only if I wanted to give it five stars. In addition to having advertisements on the free version which would be okay if it did everything, if you want to do anything much more than just scan and save locally it pushes you to the bay version. One of the other would be okay but both ads and constant push to pro makes it a pretty skeasy app.
Update- i came back to see if improvements had been made. Now I can't get it to upload to drive at all. Too bad the oddly implemented upload issue cripples an otherwise great app. Original- It's ok, it does better than most at auto-crop. But a couple issues. I would prefer to choose Google Drive folder. But i mostly don't like that it doesn't upload right away. It uploads on a timer every so often instead of directly after capture, not very efficient.
When it works, it's a perfectly satisfactory scanner. I use it frequently for scanning homework files or application letters. A lot of the time though, scans will come out really poorly. Pages will be heavily skewed and large chunks of the original image will be chopped off. This forces you to rescan the image, where it's another dice roll about whether you'll get a legible scan. I just had to rescan a job application half a dozen times because it constantly gave me extremely skewed and cropped.
So far this has been the best free document scanner I've found. I downloaded multiple others before coming across this one. The others would claim to be free but after downloading the app it would say I had to pay after a 3 day trial, etc or would have a max of 5 documents I could scan a day. Simple Scan doesn't seem to have these barriers and so far has been convenient and easy to use!
Use it for assignments in college. I can share straight to the class site on Canvas to turn in file and don't have to go through the hassle of emailing the file to myself first. Lets you take multiple pictures at once and super easy to retake just one if you need to. Even crops to the edges of the paper for you. Perfect scanner app. A couple ads but they are usually quick and painless and I'd much rather watch ads than pay for an app.
Solid free scanning app. Easy to use, can export to pdf or image, and allows a variety of filters and cropping to get the best scans. Certainly helps to have good light and a good camera, but still does a decent job even if you don't. Sometimes struggles with light pencil writing, but that can usually be improved with the filter options. Ads are minimal and don't get in the way of the app function.
Excellent app, scan documents and convert to PDF comoletely free. Photographs can also be taken and stored. This is a convenient way to stay organized too. There's additional features like faxing and placing watermarks. There is advertising that pops up however, it's a reasonable trade off for the free service. If you want to get rid of the ads, the paid version is very affordable.
Exactly what I needed. I took pictures of my docs with sun coming in a window and casting shadows on parts, but everything still looked like it was professionally scanned! No shadows. Very clear, not blurry. No one will be able to tell I don't have a scanner! Very easy to email. Yes, ads come up. I used this for 5 consecutive minutes and a 5-second ad came up 3 times. Not a bother at all.
Well, I'm waiting for the pop-up adds and upsell, but so far, they haven't come. I use this kind of app for many things. I find it quite convenient and much nicer that many comparable apps. The app I used to use has become loaded with bloatware, pop-ups and it takes way too long to get anything done. This app far exceeds them. I highly recommend Simple Scan and will do so with word-of-mouth as well.
Currently only using the free version, that said. no watermarks making excessive borders, not alot of ads and the file name staying as I need it vs it automatically tacking on words I dont need. Perfect for what I do. Do plan on getting the full pro version as it only allows 5 files in storage but that isnt really an issue for me. EDIT: To the people saying it is try and by. Delete some of your old scans. It only allows five files at a given time. Delete the old and you can continue.
The best scanner app I used so far. Easy to use. Ads are annoying but it's free. You can take multiple scan and save it. You can send the entirety that was saved under the doc name or certain pages. You can find it in the order you saved the document. If you email it out, the doc name is automatically on the subject line. You can crop and write on what you scanned.
When I first open the app, it said I had to set up an account, from a pop-up box that I had to click "OK" and put in my credit card. It turns out this was an ad, not the simple scanner service, and it took my card information, said it was a free membership, and immediately charged it. Then, when I went to use the scanning app, the same window pops up and I realized it was an ad within the app and not a requirement of simple scanner. Very misleading, and borderline fraudulent
When I first started using the app, scanned documents appeared in a folder in my gallery, but that stopped happening at some point. Now I have to email them to myself from the app after scanning and then save them to my phone, or else I just can't access the document at all. I'm not sure where some reviewers get the idea that you have to pay for the app to send documents, that is just not true at all. It's completely free.
This used to work perfectly. Now I find I need to do a lot of retakes and clicks to get the document image I need. It's no longer so "simple". The ads have gotten more intrusive also.. they try to trick you into clicking on them. It's a free app so I get the ads, but don't appreciate the tactics.
So this app forced me into an upgrade otherwise I couldn't continue scanning. It was $4.99, plus tax probably. If I wasn't so desperate to send over school work ASAP, I would've looked for a different, better app. You can't even send the images through text messages if you wanted to. I'm trying to find a way to go around it by saving the image to my phone, but it's proving to be difficult and time consuming. I should've just looked for a new app. DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME WITH THIS APP.
