The app is pretty good, it does what it's supposed to do. It's nice to have the ability to arm/disarm the system remotely as well as to check the cameras. However the lack of multiple user accounts is absurd and their offered option of sharing login/password details is a major security risk, ironic for a security company. They've spent the last 6+years claiming they are working on it. BS! There's a word for that... Vaporware.
Reviews for SimpliSafe Home Security App
← Back to SimpliSafe Home Security AppSimple and reasonable to use it . Did a alarm mistake and the police response was quick.but it would be nice if they had an automatic arming and disarming at night. Hope they consider it. And also trouble setting notifications on my phone. Edit. I have a interactive membership. The app should be working good with Wifi but sometimes it does not. It is really frustrating for this to happen when i am paying for membership. I have to come down and disarm it when i can just do it on the app.
Updated the app recently and now whenever someone rings the doorbell, the app starts playing an announcement like I'm installing a panic button!! "To start, remove the battery tab..." The app is also incredibly slow when trying to see live cameras. If they're going to make it so the base station randomly announces when device battery levels are low (like at 2:30am waking up the whole house!!), we need to be able to set quiet hours. At that hour, I don't care about low battery levels!!
We went from the widget only updating after 1 hour and now it doesn't refresh the status even after 8 hours. Just get rid of it already. The more they raise the rates the worst it becomes.
Update.....it's gotten better. App never opens on second phone, always states an error has occurred. Only one phone is able to access the app the other phone has to get a pass code from the first phone to log into the webpage (stupid!). Cameras constantly lose wifi connection. We have yet to install doorbell camera and keypad, but our Vivint keypad works just fine so no hurry to change out. Until both phones can access the app without a passcode you will get 1 star.
do not get simplisafe. the cameras are horrible for the price. they have connection problems, they are slow, when you change settings they don't always save. if they do save, randomly, your settings will reset or just flat out not be ignored. get a $500 system that gives you 8k quality. these cameras are 720i and grainy because of their poor connection. I have 1T up and down with my internet, amd these cameras can't handle 3' from the base and router.
around 20% of the time I open the app, it tells me the app is "unavailable." pretty useless for a security app to ve unavailable 20% of the time. logging out and back in fixes it, so it wasn't *actually* unavailable, but that's almost worse. aside from that big annoying bug, it's fine update: still receiving the same error just as frequently. for something I pay this much money for, I'm not happy update: removing the last star because the app keeps quitting. ITS A SECURITY SYSTEM. ffs
I like Simplisafe. The system was easy to install and has been working for me flawlessly over the last 5 years. The app is functional and easy to work with. I have only needed to replace the batteries in some of the sensors and the fobs. I used the subscription for the initial year and have been using it without a subscription since. Great system!
EDITED 6/28/2025. STILL love this system. Great customer support ... Great system. We moved and put in another Simpli Safe system immediately. We have since added more components. Because it has been incredibly reliable for the years that we have owned it and you cannot beat the price! The added feature of being able to arm or disarm your alarm from your phone or your computer is just thel bomb!
Excellent!! Just everything about it is great. I love this product, it works perfectly, so easy to set up, so affordable, monthly monitoring is affordable too, great features, and awesome app!! I luv the app settings and remote control when away from home. The indoor camera was perfect I love being able to check on my pets. Helpful customer service. It all really is the best!!
Honestly, just a lot of cons, very little pros. Batteries die fast. Everything is subscription based. You can't even Self Moniter without paying. Cameras take extremely long to load if they ever do. So God forbid it's an emergency, and you're trying to quickly see what's happening, live. You won't catch anything until it's too late. The camera face that screw on to the base is very weak plastic. So be prepared for some part of it to break. That all not to mention the awful UI.
The app is most convenient to use with one's home system. You can set the app to send push notifications when system armed/disarmed. Just remember not to block the text number that sends the push notifications; 82-539. I did by accident which stopped the text notifications. From the app you can easily view any camera you have set up, see a time line of events, and arm/disarm system from phone not just key pad at home. Helpful if you forgot to set alarm before leaving.
The app does what it needs to do nothing special. My issue with this company is their hardware The base station continually has issues with Wi-Fi or acknowledging of a power loss where there is any or stops communication to the keypad. in addition since COVID they have almost yearly increased the price of their monitoring. Knowing what I know now if I had to pick a security company I would really think hard and look at all the options before I decide to ever go with SimpliSafe.
They need to update the app for the door locks, so to lock at a time different than 30 seconds, one minute or 5 minutes. We should be able to set it for like 2 hours or if the door is still unlocked at 10:00 at night. this is the worst part that drives me crazy about this app. Every other app that controls door locks lets you put a time, if they would add that it would make such a huge difference.
Lied to about moving me to their 'Standard Plan' which no longer have push notifications/text messages. I've been on their standard plan for 7+ years (started out at $14.99, increased to $17.99 then $19.99 and $21.99 soon) and always had the ability to receive push notifications and text messages from the app. They keep increasing prices and removing features and now lying to customers. They say we never should have had the option to receive those notifications. I've had SAME PLAN for 7yr.
Really good system! the app itself works perfectly with the SimpliSafe system. it's awesome to be able to access it from anywhere that you are, I love that it is not only dependent on Wi-Fi but has its own network as well. And the cost of monitoring is very reasonable! My only issue is the doorbell camera. For the entire 5 years that I've had the system it has always had connectivity issues. I got a Wi-Fi extender, I also got a mesh Network and still the camera drops signal frequently.
So hard to navigate, lots of hidden menus, and too many settings that you're just supposed to know that they don't work when you have another setting active. Also, why so many freakin notifications?? It's creating more stress than safety at this point. UPDATE: Contacted customer service and they basically said they can't do anything about the notification settings not working. Down from two to one star for you.
Cameras Simpli, DO NOT WORK. I recently bought 3 outdoor cameras for our cottage, and they are terrible. Good luck getting live view. They often don't record. If it does, the footage has missing parts or straight-up says the video is unavailable. If it alerts you that motion was detected, good luck checking in. None of them work. I have high-speed internet, they are all close to the base station and router. They need a lot of work. Arlo cameras are miles better. I have them for the house.
Not great but not horrible. Every time I change the battery in our outdoor camera I have to remove it from our system and re-pair it for some unknown reason. It's INCREDIBLY irritating but there seems to be no "known" reason for it. Our other outdoor cam tests good signal strength with its placement but drops to fair almost immediately after testing. Kind of seems like they just want u to upgrade to "gen 2" tech and pay extra. Overall it's been fine
I installed a full system on my own, easily done I might add. I am a little tech savvy but I feel most anyone could install a basic system. My alarm triggered one night while I was at work, thankfully just a false alarm but I was amazed at how quick, calculated, and implemented the response was!!! Very well put together system and team! Very impressed! Money well spent for that kind of piece of mind.
