So here's my honest take on Simrad: Companion for Boaters. I've tested a bunch of navigation apps and this one's pretty solid. It's got all the core features you'd expect - charting, weather, route planning, etc. The charts look great and it works well as a backup GPS. But it's not the most user-friendly app out there. Took me a bit to figure some stuff out. And the ads can get annoying if you don't pay. Overall though, it's a pretty good option if you're a serious boater.

Pros

  • Tons of features like charting, weather, and AIS tracking
  • Charts and maps look really nice and detailed
  • Autorouting is a handy tool to have
  • Free to download and use, don't have to pay for premium

Cons

  • UI can be a little clunky and not super intuitive
  • Ads get old after a while if you don't upgrade
  • Syncing with Simrad devices isn't always seamless

Description

Been using Simrad: Companion for Boaters for a couple months now. It’s basically a navigation app for boaters – you can plan routes, check weather and traffic, and use your phone as a GPS. Pretty solid app if you’re into that kinda thing.

Here’s what you do: you can download offline charts, save your favorite spots, and plan trips before you head out. There’s also AIS to track other boats around you, which is pretty cool. And the autorouting feature is handy – it’ll map out the best path for you, though it took me a while to figure that out.

Look, if you’re a big boater and you’ve got Simrad gear, you’ll probably like this. It’s not perfect – the UI can be a little clunky at times – but overall it does the job. Worth checking out if you spend a lot of time on the water.

Fairly user-friendly but does have some bugs. Overall, it's definitely useful
