Great app! I find it easier than stellarium but my only gripe is that keyboard does not work when in night mode and with my keyboard coloured red. Makes keyboard searches unusable but not a major issue as have usually planned using the observing list. Well done Devs.
Reviews for SkySafari 7 Plus
Same problem as described by Jeff Crist - app is closing whenever I scroll through the tonight screen and it has been absolutely fine up until a few days ago. As Jeff says if you reinstall it solves the problem but only for a very short time. This has been a brilliant app sofar but cannot believe this of a paid for application.
Great for locating objects a time night or day. Tons of useful information right at your fingertips. Couldn't do without it. The screenlock releasing when zooming in and out is a bit annoying however. Not a deal breaker though.
This app sells itself as turnkey method to control celestron scopes. It doesnt work on my Evolution C8. Additional downloads and some tweaking of network settings are needed to control the various scopes - they are not included in the app but need downloading after purchase. I'm not a tech guru, so it's not for me.
Only 2 issue found in 4 years: The sky map shows M33 as the Pinwheel galaxy, when M101 is actually the Pinwheel, and M33 is the Triangulum Galaxy. Tried contact the team at Sky Safari resulted in zero reply, so I'm stating it here to hopefully tell them. I use this app for all my planning, star party organizing, projector training, everything. It just works. My 2nd issue I always have problems with is connecting to a SkyFi device, or any wireless device. Too many options, zero descriptions.
The Observe / Scope Display function on this Android app does not seem to work at all on my NEC Lavie 8 inch tablet. It worked great on iOS system version but I wonder if this an Android bug? Of course I have explored all options in the menu including activating it when no telescope is connected. But it still does not work properly. Other than that, the app is a fantastic tool. But that one critical feature seems to be a major problem for me.
Worked well at first but now app crashes whenever scrolling on Tonight screen. Reinstall briefly fixes it then issue returns. Reinstalled again and now can't launch with message it can't access local storage when there is no local storage permission. Says last update was Dec 2022? Huh? Joined Beta program. Still same issues. Just wow.
I had skysafari 7 plus installed and it worked, I tried updating to skysafari 7 pro, but it would just set there spinning, so I thought maybe I need to uninstall 7 plus. That didn't help, 7 pro still wouldn't install and just set there spinning so I got a refund. Now 7 plus won't install either. I now feel skysafari, anything, is worthless. I'm trying to install it on a Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra. I don't recommend any Skysafari apps!
The app is an valued tool for star hopping and I reccommend it highly for visual astronomers searching for deep sky objects and faint planets. One improvement it needs is the ability to change the minimum star magnitude limit on the fly (like magnification) so the view can be matched to what you see by eye, through the finder or the telescope eyepiece. To my knowledge no apps have this function and it's is stuck under settings. I would pay extra for this capabiliyy.
I Was still (as at 2024) using SF4Pro which is very good, and always resisted upgrading to new versions due to cost, however when the SF7Plus popped up for £2.79 I had to try it, and in all honesty it isn't much different, I don't own a goto scope so my strategy of not upgrading was the right one for me.
