This app is so unreliable. Whenever I get messages with preview notification on my phone I can't read them on the app, like they were never sent to me. How does that even happen?! Luckily I have the app on my laptop and can see the missing messages there but it is ridiculous how this keeps happening. Even when I can clearly see the message on the laptop it does not appear on my phone, it just skips to the next one. I never had an app with that issue before. I would love this app if not for that.
Reviews for Slack
← Back to SlackLatest update is really awful. Now messages often won't send or take several minutes to send, and I have either a blank Slack notification on my notification bar the whole time it tries to send a message, or there's one that says "Sending message..." that appears and disappears over several minutes. For each message sent. Edit: I cleared the apps cache like suggested and it didn't help. I also now have a permanent blank slack notification, even when the app isn't being used and is force closed.
Same issue I see others writing about, I get a notification OK, then I click it and the app comes up, but that message isn't in the thread view. Once I got a notification for a message someone had added to, and the bit they added was in the thread view, but not the original text (was very confusing since that bit didn't make sense by itself). I've basically reached the point where I use the app just to hear the "ding", then I go to the web interface to read.
App is simply bad. Both phone and desktop versions. Phone version never sends notifications, even though they are allowed. Desktop icon keeps showing that I have unread messages, even though theres none. And of course the best thing - in a free version - that you cant lookup older messages, unless you pay for it. And if you at last decide to pay for it, turns out that only "the owner" of the workspace can activate paying per person.
Used it for years on my phone, but recently have been told it's not compatible with my device. I got notifications, and could open them up still and see chats progressing without me, but I could not close the pop up of "this app needs an update." Literally, it still worked, but would not let me even view messages, even though it was updating the conversations itself. Overall, very disappointed as I can no longer talk with my family in slack group conversations anymore.
Notifications frequently do not show up. I had to set a periodic alarm to check for new posts. DMs and chats are listed alphabetically on the home page, not chrono. If you want to see them chrono, you have to tap a different page. If you read a message in the app or through the web without tapping the notification on your phone, the notification stays. One more little thing: when you're done typing, the 'back' arrow in the top left does not go back! It closes the keyboard first
The past week and a half, the app has stopped working properly. Some messages aren't fetched at all and are simply missing, and some messages refuse to send from the mobile side despite no other messaging application having issues. I love slack, but this is causing a lot of issues. It also appears to be happening on the iOS version I use as well. Please help.
While the app is a mobile version of slack, the main point of slack is to communicate, and over half the time I try to send a message, the send button disappears of is replaced by the mic, and then the message will sometimes automatically send 1-5 minutes later. This is incredibly frustrating when I'm trying to communicate with my colleagues, and it defeats the entire purpose of the app. If I can't communicate efficiently and consistently using it, there's no point in trying it.
Doesn't fetch most recent messages. Ever since the last update (I'm completely up to date as of this review) the app doesn't fetch the most recent messages after I get the notification and go into the app to see/read what was sent. It worked perfectly fine until this recent update. Can't use it at all without constantly forcing a stop and then reopening the app. Super disappointed. Not cool to release an update that doesn't work. Might have to get my team switched to something else.
Didn't work. Can't view the slack workplace on mobile. Works fine on PC. Useless app for me unfortunately, wasted my time for 25 minutes. Edit: after contacting support, it's clear they have absolutely zero idea how the product works and cannot fix the issue. They did succeed in wasting more of my time though! If you're wondering if slack is a good piece of software, it isn't. It has no value. I suppose it may be better than Facebook. Kindly note that 1 star is the lowest score i can give.
I don't get it. Why fix (break) what wasn't broken?! Before, I used to be able to start a post, come back to it, and everything was there. Add a photo to a post? No problem. Now when I leave the app & come back, my posts disappear from the channels I wrote them in & automatically get transferred to the Drafts channel. What's even more maddening is without even leaving the app, if I want to take a photo to add to a post, once I take the photo, the post has likewise disappeared, moved to Drafts.
Ok, but not "compatible" with all my devices. It will no longer work on my tablet, not even within a browser. I'm stuck using it in my phone or on my PCs/Chromebook. That's inconvenient when at conferences; I don't want to have to lug a laptop everywhere. Otherwise, the app (on my phone) is adequate. I can do what I need to do, even though it's a small screen. The issues, however, have prompted my team to transition to Discord.
The new ui puts every workspace at the same layer. Suddenly I have 7 channels all named "announcements," with no way to tell which one is which. This makes the app useless for my teams. We're already seeing usage dropping off dramatically. UPDATE: while you can isolate groups in both the desktop and mobile app, it doesn't make it easy to find and most of my students never find it. It also makes notifications bewildering. Most of the class gave up and moved off the system.
I frequently see that there is an unread message, but everything is ready. also integrations periodically stop working. resetting the cache temporarily fixed the issues, but then they return and I shouldn't need to reset the cache in the first place. it seems like there's very low android support or not many people at slack actually using the app on Android.
Major performance issues after update. App was easily 10/10 for years. Some update months ago and it has been unusable. I read thru all the complaints and responses in the reviews here - delete and redownlaod the app, clear the cache, wipe my phone and restart anew all of it. Im running a Galaxy S21 Ultra - specs should be fine. Chats fail to load in part or entirely Cannot find chat groups in the list Search cannot find chat groups Messages fail to send ... Heartbreaking
I don't like it because it has too many features and its unnecessarily complicated. It automatically streams into other workplace Apps without sign in? Switches from slack to intuit to QuickBooks.(Ordinarily, these are separate apps.) This Streaming doesn't seem safe and often I don't know when I've switched interfaces. And, I've switched companies but it keeps AUTO inputting user ID's from companies I no longer work for. I can't seem to erase previous workplaces.
You must have a phone no older than 3 years old or they lock you out. I have over 300 popular apps on my phone and this is the ONLY one that doesn't work. My phone is still very nice. I'm not going to update it for one app. It's inexcusable for an app as integral to business workflows as Slack to kill support for past Android versions so quickly.
For an app that has been around so long, so much practical functionality is not present. I have yet to find a way to jump from a conversation, into a channel, and back to the conversation to find information. Why can't I swipe left/right to get access to multiple areas of information? or tabs at the top? If the keyboard is too tall, slack does not realize the chat box area to let me see what I am typing. I cannot scroll up/down until the chat box is full. This includes searching for users.
I definitely haven't had any issues using Slack, except for the occasional times where it won't send me a notification when it should, but that's not a big deal. However I think Discord is better than Slack in every way, and is free. Losing my message history after 30 days is really dumb. Discord manages to keep all messages forever, for free. Again, app is fine, but there are better options that don't cost any money.
Team or group communication is quick and cleanly organized when you use slack. The extended feature set is nice, such as reminders, but mostly I use this for the basics. Search has gotten pretty good and notifications have been mostly reliable in recent years, though there are still occasional hiccups when you are both in the app and have a browser tab open, even if one is backgrounded. Best of all, the app is pretty low impact on battery life and system performance.
