Reviews for Sleep as Android: Smart alarm

← Back to Sleep as Android: Smart alarm

Seemed promising until I got to the end of the introduction and was required to try the 4 day Premium trial to use the app at all. No, thanks. I don't do trials or rent apps I will never own. Ever. I don't have fast internet or an income, so the app is unlikely to work out well for me anyway. I would also never use the alarms because jumping through hoops to turn them off is a pain and sometimes creates humiliating situations. I experienced that with similar alarm apps.

This app works as intended. The only reason for the negative review is the intrusive full-screen unskippable ads that occur often after an alarm ends. It's not every time, but it is very annoying when it does. Paying $60 for lifetime, or $25 A YEAR, just to "remove ads" is absolutely crazy. I know, I know, you get "more features" and all with the paid version, but let's be honest it's just to remove ads.

I have been using this app for almost 10 years and loved it until 6/14 when an update went through overnight. When my alarm went off, the sleeping sheep updated and was impossible. The only way I could turn the alarm off was to uninstall the app. I lost all of that history since I couldn't back it up, and discovered any backup I did have would require upgrading $$ to import. Very bummed user. I had to drop you from a 5 to a 4 star for that.

[UPDATE July 29,2025] It's rare to find an app that's well maintained 7 years later, but here we are! Great app, great support, great features! Less expensive than the cheapest Walmart alarm clock. [Dec 21, 2018] This is the perfect sleep tracking and alarm app for light and heavy sleepers. Great features, well maintained app. I often fall back asleep, so the alarm challenges and awake check are perfect for me. (It's a notification 5 min after alarm, dismiss or get another round of alarm)

Downgrading from 5 to 3 stars bc ads. I have used this app for years and loved it! Recently the sleep tracking started only working every other day on the free version - ok, fair; I get holding back some features for the paid version. Now ads have started playing after I turn off an alarm. That's a hard NO. I was considering upgrading to lifetime premium, but I honestly find the insertion of full page ads after an alarm so gross that I'll probably just stop using the app. Rethink your choices.

We spend a third of our life sleeping. Shouldn't we do what we can to make the best use of that time? If you're looking to track your sleep and fuss over every metric, this is the app for you. Or if you just want a great alarm that's easy to configure, this is the app for you! I've used this app for many years and have probably suggested it to more people than any other app. There are so many options, yet somehow it is easy to use!

Trying to track with Garmin... UPDATE - Developers contacted me immediately and after trading emails, resolved my issue. I was on an old ver that wasn't updating. UPDATE UPDATE - Above is an abbreviated summary of an old old post and update. I just wanted to add that years later, I still find this to be hands-down, the best alarm app available. The app is polished and full featured without being crowded and the best support ever!

I've been using the free version of this app, particularly the alarm that requires you to scan a barcode, to reliably get myself out of bed for years. It's very customizable, with a lot of free alarm options and even some free sleep tracking features. Highly recommend for anyone who struggles with managing their sleep like I do.

The last update made the actigraph bars all 2x wide, so they overlap. It's still usable, sort of, but, yeah. One other complaint I have is that I'm pretty sure I have decade-old data that it doesn't show. I have backups (love that I can export my own!), but it would be super handy not to merge exported datasets and make my own graphs.

I've used this app for many years and really appreciate the data tracking it provides. I like the Silent alarm feature that allows me to wake up without disturbing my spouse and the wakeup games ensure you aren't just hitting that snooze button in your sleep. The bedtime reminder are also helpful for getting consistency in your nightly sleep and being able to set up an array of alarms for what ever your routine may be is fantastic.

I've used this app for a few years now, and it has everything I need: smart wakeup options, various alarm tones, the ability to set and save way too many alarms throughout the week, etc. And it continually evolved throughout the years, getting better with each update! It's the only alarm app I use anymore.

I used to love this app. It has helped me get better sleep and was the best alarm. Now, the graduated alarm snooze doesn't work, I only get 1 no matter what I do. The sleep phazer won't work properly, I've had 3 of them. I can sync my watch with it only if I don't use any other connected device. Everything was working great at first, but after an update, it all quit doing what made it such a great app.

I spent most of my life struggling to control my sleep schedule, so this app was literally life-changing for me. I've been using it for probably 5 years now, and it has the perfect combo of features/safeguards to make sure that *no matter what* I can be awake when I want to be, w/o feeling annoyed or angry at my alarm. It has a VERY generous free trial, but it's 100% worth buying the full version (My only complaint is there are a few bugs with postponing repeated alarms, but I work around them)

I like the idea but the UI really sucks. It's cluttered, you have to go to a website just to learn how to read a few helpful, most unhelpful, charts and graphs. There are some charts that arent even available in the Charts tab, but only shown on the dashboard or daily charts info. It's just aggravating to use.

App is amazing has almost every feature you could ever want. I would add more compatibility to different smart lights and smart switches too. I saw that they are adding google home soon which is great! The beta version unfortunately keeps giving me an error when I try to give it permission to access Google home. But it might just be that I wasn't able to get into the beta program

Pretty good! No ads (which is so rare these days) and it does track my sleep! I don't know how it does the sleep cycles, but even tracking the times which I sleep at has let me know I always go to bed too late. Sadly, there is a premium version, even if they have to pay the bills, so I can't give 5 stars, at least until I've experienced all that has to offer. But that's a ways off, given the price (though it is a one time purchase, again so rare these days!)

Overall, this is a pretty good app! However, here are a few things i realized 1. Make sure sleep tracking is running in order for the optimal wake up phase alarm to work 2. Make sure to set a notification sound for a wake-up check in system settings.. 3. There aren't that many alarm options that come with it, but you can use any sound you have on your device. I haven't used sleep tracking yet. Thank you to the one who gave me this info

Great and full featured app. I've been a long time user and got it initially for basic sleep tracking, but through the years the devs really packed in lots more features. My favorite is the radio station alarm, it's always a different song and the songs seem really effective at getting me awake. The sleep tracking is also quite detailed, and the snoring and sleep talk tracker have been really useful in trying to improve my sleep quality. Highly recommended! Edit: still going strong in 2025

I've been using Sleep as Android for over a decade now. No other alarm app comes close. As a heavy sleeper, the CAPTCHA options to turn off an alarm are invaluable. Mine is set up so I have to scan an NFC tag in my bathroom before I can dismiss an alarm, forcing me to get out of bed. Otherwise I can dismiss an alarm and never even remember. Love this app!

I've been using Sleep as Android as my primary alarm clock app for over 10 years now. I really like the ability to set specific days, to default alarm sounds, and to solve math problems to disable the alarm or go past your snooze limits to make sure you're actually (somewhat) awake and on time. Maybe it's because I'm 10+ years older, but it does seem to help me to not be late in the mornings.
