What an interesting tool! I have been trying it out a little over a week. I notice my deep sleep cycles are in regular pattern. I know not to set alarm for 6 AM because I'll feel bad all day from getting jarred out of a deep sleep. If I would need to readjust my sleep schedule, I'm sure the app could help see the progress. On a side note, I do not have a nightstand. I use microphone mode with a TV & fan running. The app runs an hour before I sleep and has recorded that accurately.
Reviews for Sleep Cycle: Sleep Tracker
← Back to Sleep Cycle: Sleep TrackerI have used Sleep Cycle since 2014. I even purchased the app (they have since switched to a monthly service fee and my purchase is no longer honored). Suddenly, about a month ago, Sleep Cycle started freezing when I try to open the app. Re-downloading the app fixes the freezing issue for a few days, then it starts freezing again. I love this app, it's too bad it no longer works.
This is the second time in the past 10 days that I've had to uninstall this app because the alarm refuses to shut off. App crashes when I try to go into the journal to see how long it was actually tracking today since it won't shut the alarm off. I will not be reinstalling it a third time. Also, I paid for the premium content. I want my money back.
Great app. It's nice that I can leave the phone on my night stand instead of my bed; does a good job of tracking deep sleep vs light sleep. PLEASE add an EDIT feature where I can change the time I went to bed or woke up. Sometimes I forget to end the tracking when I get out of bed since I'm still sleepy, and then an hour later I realize it's still tracking. It would be nice to delete that extra time and enter the correct wake time. EDIT: I would also like the option to edit how much sleep I got.
Love hate relationship. I sleep through all traditional alarms. For some reason, the smart alarm in this app wakes me up perfectly! So long as it actually works. I have to keep uninstalling and reinstalling just to get the gradual alarm to function. Which is dangerous because I never know when it's going to fail, and I wake up late. Instead of the gradual alarm softly getting louder until my actual wake-up time, it'll just ring at the time I set; no different than a regular alarm. Upsetting.
So I've used this app daily since 2016, when it was 99 cents. It's typically great, but something with the latest update really screwed up the alarm. it no longer goes off, it will just vibrate twice and go back into snooze mode. I've had the alarm decide to go off 45 minutes after it was set. all the settings have remained the same, there is no wakeup window, volume is up etc...
Great app overall. If it's able to detect noises and movement while you sleep, it should automatically end the sleep tracking once using phone or moving around. That would be an awesome feature. Also, a subscription is hard to justify when most of us have watches that can do the tracking and meditation apps that have sleep stories. Edit: down to one star because there is no "sensitivity" setting. I've been getting woken up as soon as my 30 min window starts even if I'm in deep sleep!
Update: as of about 2 weeks ago my snooze started playing a dripping water sound. It's like being in a cave. I hate it. I can't turn it off though because it doesn't exist in the settings. My wake up sound is "morning mist" but this is entirely different. Looking for new app. I've been using the free version for 3 or more years and love it. I like all the options for alarms and mostly love being able to confirm a good night sleep. or, know why I feel exhausted the next day. great sleep tracker!
I really like this app, but: 1) I often sleep in 2 phases 4-5h at night and 2-3h in the afternoon, and the app doesn't support that - second sleep erases any data from first and statistics show I slept 2 hours for a few days of week. 2) You can't change wake-up time when the alarm rings, there is a snooze button, but if you decide to stay in bed longer you need to turn it off and back on - and have the issue from point 1. It may be a pro for some who have trouble getting up, for me it's a con.
There's not much I like about this app and it is so limited in what it shows you if you prefer not to do a 5-day trial that it's virtually worthless. It also was off compared to my Fitbit. My Fitbit and I have been together a very long time and I know it's accurate and simple things like time asleep are completely different between the two devices. Furthermore it kept saying I was talking in my sleep when it was listening to the included audiobook- audio clip included! Bad!
TLDR it doesn't work and it's super annoying to use Before you can do anything at all (or even see what the app can do), the app makes you sit through a slow, unskippable animation and then create an account. Once I got in, the UI was bad. You can't just set a bedtime by typing in a time. You have to drag a big wedge on a circle to pick a time, which makes it hard to select the time you want. Finally, after I managed to set a bedtime, the reminder didn't actually go off when I set it to.
I've tried to use this app for the last 8 months and I've finally decided to cancel my subscription and remove this app from my phone. Sleep Cycle tries to do too much, in my opinion, and the level of integration between my Samsung phone and Galaxy watch was starting to NEGATIVELY affect my sleep. note to developers - i don't need your app to randomly turn on alarms to wake me up. I also don't need the app to constantly and erroneously detect when im sleeping. Waste of money.
This app works great...most of the time. Occasionally this app will close itself in the middle of the night, thus canceling your alarm, and when you open the app again it panics and plays the ringer for the alarm immediately upon opening the app. This problem has made me late to many important events and I will be uninstalling this app. I would discourage you from installing this app as well, just use the clock app on your phone, its not as fancy but at least its reliable.
10 years ago, when testing various sleep apps, I thought this was extremely basic. Well, it's good to see that they haven't changed: still as bare-bones as ever. I tried the Pro version for free, and it's worse than the built-in tracker on the phone. No Spotify integration is ridiculous, and yet not the worst: if you want snoring, you need to select microphone tracking – meaning it will not use the watch accelerometer. Add the fact that it lacks any other data, and this app is a useless gimmick.
They don't offer monthly subscriptions and the app requires about 7 or more days to even know whether you want to keep it. It's not that great either. You can't even trim data... Even so, I wanted to try it out for longer than 7 days but an annual subscription is required. Bad business and they lost a potential customer. For the record, no app is good enough to require only annual subscriptions.
Overall, it's good, but it's not recording very accurately. For instance, I had a lot of phlegm last night; Sleep Cycle did not pick up any of me clearing my throat, several times. I was awake more than asleep! Also, there's no place to write my own notes -just words to describe the day before.
I paid for the yearly membership, hoping to get insights into my sleep. Not even 3 months in and I'm uninstalling the app. I wish I had NEVER done the annual subscription. Some features are cool, like the sound tracking for snores. But the app does not register that I'm waking up (even when choosing how I feel waking up) and it doesn't work correctly on my watch. It constantly overrides my home screen and shows the set alarm whenever I turn on my watch. Even during the day after I've woken up.
I have used this app a few times whenever my sleep schedule gets super messed up. The metrics it offers to gage your sleep are very helpful in identifying problems and crafting solutions. The app itself offers things like a dynamic alarm. I usually will use Sleep Cycle for a month or two until my sleep cycle has been corrected, and then leave it, but I can see it being a useful tool to use all the time. For me, it serves its purpose well as a machine of correction. Very cool and helpful!
I signed up for the free week and didn't really like it too much. The fact that it wants 7 nights of data to know how you sleep ends up paying for a year subscription. I have tried to cancel the subscription so I would not get charged and still was charged. It does not show in Google Play under manage subscriptions to cancel at all. My watch and phone do really well with my sleeping without this, and I am afraid I am out of money for something I will not be using at all.
When it works, it works great, but it has a fatal glitch of sometimes it will stop functioning all together. Until you open the app again, meaning when the alarm is supposed to go off it doesn't and causes you to miss your wake-up time. I can no longer trust this app to function as my alarm and have chosen to use my phones baked in alarm now. I use a moto android as well. could be an issue with moto phones possibly, yet if you depend on your alarm to wake-upon time, I wouldn't trust it.
