Description
Been using SmartControl OBD2: Car Scanner for a couple months now. It’s basically an app that turns your car into a real smart onboard computer. You can track stuff like the cost of your commute, check your speed, and even find your parked car. Pretty solid app if you’re into that kind of thing.
Here’s what you do: you can calculate the exact cost of every trip, which is super handy if you need to split expenses or get reimbursed. There’s also a built-in speedometer that you can use to check your speed point by point – great for avoiding speed traps. And you can even measure how maintenance affects your fuel consumption and car performance.
Look, if you’re into cars and data tracking, you’ll probably like this. It’s not perfect – the interface can be a little clunky at times – but overall it does the job. Worth checking out if you want more insights into how your car is running.
Editor Opinion
So here's my honest take on SmartControl OBD2: Car Scanner. I've tested a bunch of car-related apps and this one's pretty solid. The core features work well - the cost tracking, speedometer, and diagnostics are all really useful. And it's not as slick as some other apps, but it gets the job done. The best part is that it's all offline, no cloud account required. The downsides are that the UI is a bit dated and some features take a while to figure out. But if you want a capable OBD2 tool without the monthly fees, this is worth a look.

Is it possible to make a landscape version for tablets? I have an android head unit but it wont open on it. Also a virtual cockpit design would be neat.
Works well, dashboard provides all I need. Would like to see engine temp value larger, very hard to read.
Fantastic app, downloaded this app to view the dpf soot accumulation on my Mazda 3 diesel (2012 - 150bhp 2.2 litre) It's helping me to understand when my car regens...
