As if the ads aren't enough, now they're going to start a subscription model to keep and store our data? Save and export your media file while you can. The memory and camera features are the only reason I still keep this app over the competitors. If they're truly switching to the subscription I'm going to remove my app from my phone. Such a shame, it's been great until this, so long OG Snapchat.
Reviews for Snapchat
← Back to SnapchatI have used snapchat for probably almost 10 years now and Ive always loved it. However, I am now getting ads, which I block, and still receive somehow. Now, I'm hearing that starting next year you will have to pay to KEEP memories?? Almost 10 years of memories down the drain because snapchat wants to get greedy. Im surprised they dont make enough from the snapchat plus, which I paid for up until recently. This app had so much potential and it was crushed almost instantly for me.
The idea that we have to pay to access memories on this app that has only gotten worse over the years is absolutely criminal. I've backed up my memories so I'll be fine, but if they go through with this change, I will be deleting the app and never looking back. The erasure of seeing my friends stories being demoted to a sliver of the top of the screen, and the bulk of the stories page being flooded with ads and being able to "discover" a bunch of random influencers I don't care for is idiotic.
Forcing to pay for yet ANOTHER subscription model for storage is insane! I have had Snapchat since middle school, im almost 30, that is nearly 2 DECADES worth of photos/videos, many of which from my childhood, photos of family/pets that are no longer with me. Through several phone replacements, this app was the reason i got a lot of photos transferred. If the app decides to go this route, there will be no reason for me to continue using it.
Why do I have to PAY for my own photos? I have multiple pictures on there of important memories I want to hang onto. This app already has a torturous amount of ads, and I can barely do anything without giving a notification to someone. The only reason I got it, is to be able to communicate on face time with friends that have iOS. Again, I don't think I should have to pay $2+ MONTHLY from what I've seen, to see old photos that I've kept there SO I can see them again. This app sucks.
Dissapointed and frustrated that we will need to pay for storing memories. I have a bunch of media (pictures and videos) of pets that have long pasted away and great memories from college. I'm saddened that I might lose great moments of my life captured within pictures and video. But I'm not willing to pay those fees. I'm highly debating on even keeping the app at all. Very dissapointed in Snap Inc. for implementing this new change.
I've had Snapchat for 5+ years now and it's great, I probably spend the most time on it and have thousands of pictures and saved in memories. I recently heard that starting this month, they are going to start charging for storage, something that's always been a free part of the app. If they start this, I will be deleting the app. It's sad, but what am I to do? Spend like 20 bucks a month for a dying app when I can't afford rent? Do better snap :(
Disappointed that the app will be charging its members for memories. The coolest part about this app was the fact that you could keep your pictures from years ago to look back on without needing to be stored on your phone directly. You could access it on any device as long as you logged into your account. Losing that feature ( unless you plan to pay for it) is definitely going to affect the app expirience negatively.
I would give this app a normal rating as I have used it regularly since 2014, but removing unlimited memory storage is going to be the fastest, most sure way to ensure I delete it immediately. Many users have used memories for years now, and suddenly changing your policy to make more money is an exceptionally bad look. You have a loyal user base. Don't make them leave.
Absolutely horrific that If I don't pay to keep my memories I have 12 months before they're deleted. I have many important things there and storage issues, especially with the fact I'm going to need to save everything. Many, many other users as well. Memories are the reason I even have this app still and that goes for many others. It's the main reason so many people use this app or most would only have Instagram. I hope something is done because I know myself and many will not be using this app.
I refuse to charge for memories to stay stored. A huge point of the app is the memories feature. The fact they want to implement a payment system for it, which is the main reason people use it at all, is unacceptable. A base feature of an app since day 1 should never have to be paid for. I and many others would rather uninstall after transferring memories elsewhere.
I've had this app since I was in 7th grade. I'm a Junior in college. I've seen this app change over time and in some ways improve, but as of recent, learning about how we can't save our memories because we need to pay for them, I find it absurd. Paying for our own data is not right. I only kept this app so long because of the memories. if you go through with the payments, I will be deleting. I'm willing to lose my progress on my 2500 day streak. I don't care
Used to love this, but now they're rolling out a "feature" to make users pay for the only thing most of us still have the app for. Won't let me download my memories or other data. The option to do it is gone. Disappointed in the company, they're taking subscriptions too far. They should have just stuck with their first snap+ idea, which actually added to the app instead of taking away.
I'd give more stars, but I don't appreciate getting the same notification over and over again. Even after fixing them to how I want them to be, I'll get the same notification about stories about 10 times. I can delete the notification, and as soon as I swipe, the same one pops back up within seconds. Ridiculous. The add music option doesn't allow me to hear the music either. I can't hear any sound while editing the photo or clip I'm trying upload to stories until after it's posted.
I have a Samsung, and used the app to chat with friends with IPhones so we can make groupchats, video call, or send voice memos. Unfortunately for me this app prioritizes ios, so I can always count on loads of glitches and bugs. I dislike the discover page, which you can't avoid since it takes up most of the screen if you go to view friends' stories. I HATE the creepy new 3D bitmoji style. An AI chatbot stays at the top of your inbox even if you never talk to it, and no way to get rid of it.
The forced stories of strangers and ads is just about the final push I need to leave this app behind. After years of people complaining about the "Friend is typing..." push notification, it is still there. The execs do not care what we like or dislike. Also, if you add text to your snap it won't always show up on other people's screens, especially if it is near the edges of the screen. It will look perfect when you are editing, but it will send with some text cut off or not visible.
Dumb app, extremely basic, annoying to use, but some people I know outright REFUSE to communicate any other way, so I'm here. My real issue is that today, I have been unable to load snaps, and several that I want to send just aren't sending. I also can't view my friends list at all. I've got a perfect wifi connection, so it has to be the app; what's going on?
It selectively refuses to allow you to hide certain accounts from discover, and it will not allow you to contact a human at snapchat to resolve the issue. I've blocked one account at least 5 times. If I try to hide it, it just says something went wrong, but only for that particular account. I've updated the app 3 times and reset my phone and everything. Oddly, it literally only does this on thirst trap accounts, too. I don't want to see it.
TOO MANY ADS! Any content you watch is interrupted with an advertisement every 5 seconds, and the content itself is usually click-bait. Stop sending ads directly to me, too! Adding songs to my snaps can be annoying because the app won't let me use certain parts of the song (if the song is even on here). I don't like that I can't get rid of MyAI.
as a social media app, it's fun. however, I get recommended inappropriate content on both my stories and discover when I don't want it. I try blocking those accounts that show up on my stories page, but it straight up doesn't work - when I refresh the page, it recommends the account I just blocked. If you're debating getting this app for your children - DON'T. It's way too easy to start seeing really inappropriate/borderline 🌽 content, without even interacting with it.
