So here's my honest take on Spectrum News: Local Stories. I've tested a bunch of news and local info apps, and this one's pretty solid overall. The customization options are great - you can really dial in the content to what matters to you. And the variety of content formats, from articles to videos to podcasts, is a nice touch. On the downside, the ads can get a little intrusive if you don't pay, and the app does feel a little cluttered at times. But if you're looking for a one-stop-shop for hyperlocal news and info, this is definitely worth a look.

Pros

  • Tons of content - articles, videos, podcasts, interactive maps
  • Customizable to show only stuff relevant to your local area
  • Free to use, don't have to pay if you don't want to
  • Looks and runs great, even on older phones

Cons

  • Ads can get annoying if you don't pay for the premium version
  • Home screen feels a bit cluttered with all the different content
  • Some articles/videos can be a little light on substance

Description

Been using Spectrum News: Local Stories for a couple months now. It’s basically an app that lets you get local news, weather, and events all in one place. Pretty solid if you’re into keeping up with what’s going on in your community.

Here’s what you can do – you can read articles, watch videos, and even listen to podcasts about stuff happening in your area. There’s also an interactive map feature which is pretty cool. And you can customize it to only show stuff relevant to where you live, which is useful.

Look, if you’re the type who likes to stay on top of local news and events, you’ll probably like this app. It’s not perfect – there are some ads that can get annoying if you don’t pay – but overall it does the job. Worth checking out if you want an easy way to get your local fix.

A massive downgrade in usability from the Bay News 9 app that is being phased out. Checking the weather radar requires more steps and when you play the time lapse...

So far so good. No crashes. Wish I could "cast" with it to my roku and that it handled Android 6.x. Update: I'm getting some crashes now streaming live (and...

Not an improvement. I mostly only used the weather portion of the old app. I don't like the new app's weather portion as I don't see how to default to...
