I ditched this app immediately due to the incredibly long, boring, needless forced intro. They wanted to give a power point presentation to sell you on something that you could find out for yourself if only they'd shut up. Next, they advertise a huge number of voices - all but 3 or 4 are the same fake sounding robotic voices you could get on Windows 98. Lastly, despite immediately canceling the free trial, they've made multiple attempts to charge my card. MULTIPLE!
Reviews for Speechify – Text to Speech
← Back to Speechify – Text to SpeechThis app and extension have become so glitchy they're unusable. I've tried contacting customer service multiple times with recordings of the various issues and no help. It's quite an expensive service that I haven't been able to use, so I've been requesting a refund as I'm not getting the service I'm paying for, but of course they ignore those emails.
While the voice selections are great. The app itself has a lot of issues. It gets stuck while reading and I have to restart it several times. When using faster speech speed it gets stuck in segments and pauses as the screen text follower catches up to the voice, meaning there is some silence between sentences. All this with the premium trial. I will definitely be canceling and not paying for premium.
took pic of book cover and wanted me to take pics of pages,NOT!!! This is not what I thought I was signing up for. Disabled and don't have the patience to try to mess around with someth is professed to be easy all the way around. Before I knew it 3 days was up..Who gives a 3 day trial, especially for $100 from the get go after trial ends, without offering monthly payments? I couldn't afford the $100 because I forgot to transfer $ from savings, in the meantime I'm dealing with Trying to cancel..
you know, I like this app for a long time. then it decided I couldn't use it anymore unless I purchased the premium version. said I had 5 files already. I had no files. I tried Uninstalling and reinstalling. same issue. im not paying 99 bucks for an e reader. it was great until they felt I used it enough to be bullied into buying the full version. all they succeeded in doing was annoying me and making me delete the app and use one of the dozen other comparable alternatives.
The playback was choppy, "me" was read consistently as "m-n-e". Many other words mispronounced. "I", at the beginning of a sentence was interpreted as "one". It kept skipping whole paragraphs and re-ordered some of the words, making it confusing. I tried the feature advertised as "if you can take a picture of the book cover, you can listen through this app." It did not work for me. I may try it again after some of the issues are worked out.
There's no way to cancel, so they'll scam charge you. I tried for days to cancel, but there's no way to find how to in the app, nor the website. The voices are choppy, robotic, and the app freezes or stops or crashes constantly. Do not fall for the reviews!!! I suspect they are bots! It's a terrible app, service, and overpriced for the buggy garbage you actually get! Ironically I never would have posted a review if they had just been honest and let me cancel since the service is unusable!
Purchased the premium membership and it is not worth it. When using Kindle the narrator voices glitch and two will play at the same time. Or every other paragraph you have to press play again. Or they simply won't load at all for 1-2 days. Support tells you to uninstall the app but that has never worked to fix the glitches and then you have to sit through the 5 minute app intro every time you uninstall and reinstall. It's a great concept but so glitchy and not worth it.
The text scanning on this is cumbersome and really needs overhauled to make it usable. Other apps take a pic and go right away. This makes you take a pic, crop it, save it, give it time to generate and then still misses words. Multiple page scanning is probably the worst I've ever seen. like piecing a puzzle together with all the cropping and then hoping it captures it. I've tried and it will not read entire paragraphs. Good voice quality but the app is super clunky. Also yes it crashes for me
When it works, it's fabulous. But often it takes hours before I can successfully upload the document I want to read. It is supposed to link to Google Drive, but only does so maybe one try in 10. Linked to Kindle, Speechify reads a paragraph or so and then stops. Reading PDFs, Speechify adds arbitrary pauses in weird places - often at the end of each print line in a paragraph, which makes it very hard to follow by listening (but then it doesn't consistently pause at periods). Frustrating!
Good when it works, but too buggy to warrant the price tag. The voice AI in this app is better than others I've used by a wide margin, and as someone who uses text to speech essentially 8 hours a day/5 days a week, I really wanted to like it for that reason. Unfortunately, as others have mentioned, there's constant skipping, text jumbling, and random stopping/restarting, and these issues persist after following troubleshooting instructions. I can't justify spending $99 on something this buggy.
When it works, it's amazing. Otherwise, it crashes often, even using the "workaround" for Ebooks you've purchased. I wish I could figure out why it crashes or pauses or any of the extra stuff, but it appears this is an ongoing issue. I'll keep checking in with the Techies and Help centre, but idk if this will be corrected anytime soon.
The new Kindle feature is OK, but it needs some work. I found it will spell out "my" or "me," and it has a hard time with words like "I'll" or "you're". Then, it will ignore multiple words in a sentence. All of this is annoying. Get this feature working better, and this app will rock. This is still an issue with any Kindle books when using Speechify on Android devices. Uninstalling and re-installing doesn't work. I've tested on Apple, which I shouldn't have to do, and found it's not as bad.
The app won't even do what it's supposed to do....Read! every time I put a file up for it to read all I get is the spinning circle and it just sits there and looks at me and does nothing. advantage is hard to close the file and get rid of it without completely closing the app. I will give it a couple of days for you people to fix the problem. and then I'm going to delete the app. extremely poor!!
Can be used with the Kindle app if you only want to listen to bits and pieces of it. I restarted the app and my phone, deleted the book, and redownloaded it twice. It is skipping huge portions and reading the book out of order. It's very frustrating for something 100 bucks a year. I tried other books on Kindle and had the same issue. I read primarily on my phone and didn't try any solid books. It gave me a 3 day trail period. I've already canceled it.
Truly awful. It's cool that it can read anything and is very useable, but the quality of the voices and the narration is really unlistenable. Very little more than a gimmick. Also if you didnt subscribe via the app, it's extremely hidden how to unsubscribe. Their help article on how to do so is wrong, and I've had to reach out to support in order to figure out how.
the AI readers are kind of ok, but the app itself is annoying. I do like that I can choose the voice and speed. i don't like that it stops all the time or skips. hose issues are mostly tolerable. However, my two biggest gripes: 1. it won't play unless it's open on the screen. Paid apps usually do this, even free ones are capable. 2. I asked for a refund within minutes of ordering it because it's not as advertised and got terrible tech advice instead.
I have been using this on my Kindle books. It constantly skips words and reads them out of order, which is confusing and has me looking over often to see what the actual text is. There's a lot of popping, cracking sounds and unpredictable pauses that make the listening experience a headache. As for the so-called 200 voices, I've only seen and heard 4 and in no way is changing the narrator as easy as the commercials show. The "simple" put the phone on any book and have it read also doesn't work.
When it works, it's great. I sprung for the premium version to see how I like it, and I must admit the premium voices are very good, but few of them still sound like robots. I wish there were more variety of English Accents from different regions. Now the "eh" part, Speechify continually has trouble converting text files and will miss out the beginnings and ends of sentences all too frequently; it doesn't matter the type of text file. This is a continual issue that Speechify has not rectified!
You gotta be kidding me. Tried to download book and it wouldn't. Tried the supposedly live customer service and the only thing available "live" was an AI chat. You eventually will receive a response through email, but that only works if you have no life and just sit around watching your emails all day, every day. Felt like a total scam meant to drag things out past the 3 day free trial period, so the customer gets charged $99 before they even know if their customer service will have a solution.
