I have the free version of the app, and I like it for the most part, especially the simplicity, and the ability to attach photos to items (for receipts). It does not connect to my particular bank, but I am okay with that. Edit: Originally I had what turned out to be a sync issue which caused very high background data use. But I uninstalled and reinstalled (with the latest update as well) and it appears to be fixed now. Thank you, Spendee support, for your help.
Reviews for Spendee: Budget App & Tracker
← Back to Spendee: Budget App & TrackerCould be the best budget admin app out there but it's so buggy!! I can't believe for the life of me that none of my transactions sync after the new update. It just shows an error message saying "Something went wrong. Please, try again later". My wife can't see my transactions nor I see hers in our shared wallet.
I've seen a couple apps do this and I'm confused by it - you can only have 2 budgets and from I can tell, that means you just say "i can only spend this much money per month". I'm used to setting a budget per category 'this much/month on food/phone/car etc.' Was excited to see it have an option to link to banks as well as support for photos (which I'd use for receipts to confirm WHAT I bought) but didn't get that far after being stumped by the limited budgets.
I loved this app and used it for about a year. After looking at many many budgeting apps, this one was perfect for how I recorded my transactions and budgeted, but in the recent update I can no longer use formulas and calculate while adding a transaction. Suddenly it's that much worse for me and I find I no longer use it. I still recommend because it works well if it has the features you want, but I will be uninstalling myself. The search continues!
I spent 2-3 hours entering information about my various bank and retirement accounts and recent transactions. The very next day when I opened the app, I was told to pay for subscription or choose just one of the accounts I had entered to keep. I liked the app but am very disappointed that it wasn't up front about how many accounts one could follow in the free app. Huge waste of my time.
Would definitely have sprung for paid version to get the sharing access, but need to have a way to verify/clear transactions and do some sort of reconciliation (like a checkbook). I'm running household accounts in multiple currencies that are from banks that don't connect to online services, so lack of reconciliation is a dealbreaker. Like the graphing and website functionality.
Spendee is far and away the best budget app for our purposes. It syncs quickly to the cloud so my wife and I can share transactions. It's easy to use. It allows creating "wallets" for when you just want to track some transactions without scraping data from your bank account. This is extremely useful for us, because credit card transactions often take days or even weeks to be registered as complete. This way we can get those points and make sure we don't spend too much!
I wish I could create a budget that included multiple wallets into one set amount. I also would like to be able to modify the wallet's beginning balance, even ones connected to an account. It than that, I really like the app. This is the only one I've found that allows me to customize my budget the way I want it, and yet also sync with my credit card spending.
I used this app for a while, it was great, I got a subscription. Then it stopped working and could no longer access my info at all. I stopped using it for a year due to this flaw and now I am being charged again. I went to cancel and the help center had "we can't help you 🤷♂️" (complete with shrug emoji). I ended up finding and cancelling it. I still do not recommend an app that is inconsistent like this. I really wish it was useable though.
Great app but there seems to be a bug with entering a GPS location. Once I hit the submit button it will duplicate my entry several times so it seems like I spent the same amount at a location multiple times. When I try and delete the duplicate transaction, it will delete all transactions associated with that specific entry. My fix was to just type in the location under the note portion and to not put a GPS location on the entry.
Biggest plus with this app is the biweekly budgeting. Some major down falls though. 1. If you set up budgets in Android you can't see them in iOS. 2. People you share wallets with can't see your actions in the wallet and you can't see theirs so it ends up being pointless 3. Can't change categories on "pending" transactions so they end up effecting the wrong budgets. 4 you can't set up your biweekly income. 5. Can't leave notes on credit card transactions. 6. Bank syncing is awful in android. You have to exit the app without closing it and reenter it several minutes later for it to show it did anything. All these fixed would make for an outstanding app. Mint would have you beat if they had a bi-weekly budgeting option.
I've used this app for at least three years. It suited my needs just fine, I preferred it to any of the other budgeting apps that are promoted. But the update really messed it all up. All of my recurring transactions had been replicated at least 15 times for each month, going back to when I first started using it. You can't edit labels anymore, only add. There was previously an option that allowed you to exclude future transactions from your reports. And the loading time is awful; it takes a good minute for my info or transactions to load. I was really loyal to this app and even recommended it to a few of my friends since it worked so well for me. But the update was just horrible. I wonder if this company even did any market research before wasting their time and effort on that garbage update. Fortunately, I found a new app that works similarly to the old Spendee. I've canceled my subscription, and deleted this since it's really not worth the money anymore and there's better stuff out there.
Beware! Not for long term use. I loved the UI & functionality so I stuck with the app for so long. Since past few months it's lagging like crazy whenever I open it. I reached out to the customer care and they said it's because I have a lots of data. They said they're working on a fix but its been months its still unusable. They've not optimized the app for long-term use. Even on a high-end device, if you use this app for more than 3-4 years, it'll start lagging, so be aware of that.
In the beginning versions of Spendee I loved it, worked well with very few issues. Now, i find it had to accurately track my overall balance solely from this app. The most annoying thing is that if you set up recurring transactions, your total balance is automatically deducted from these transactions at the beginning of the month- so you always have less money reflected in your account that what is reality.
I paid for premium subscription and this app is so hard to use. I can't connect to any of my transactions to mange them correctly. They are just put into whatever categories the app decides to put them in. If I knew I had to enter them manually for any sort of results I was looking for, I would have utilized excel spreadsheets. I cant even cancel my subscription because the "web app" doesn't work. When it signs me in it just shows up as a blank page. I'm filing a dispute with my bank.
What started as a great app, slowly and steadily started falling behind. Nothing truly new to show for in the past years. Location tags never came back, the app update was a total DISASTER, it's slower and things that were fine before don't work now. Hashtags are gone and labels can't be edited. They claim "new bank connections" are coming, they have been saying that for over 2 years now. "Lifetime Membership" subscription seems like the last attempt to get more money and keep it afloat.
Well this looks like a great app if and only if you only link bank accounts with cash balances. I linked my bank accounts where I have savings/checking accounts, and also credit cards. The app is reporting the balance I have on my credit card as if it were cash I had on some checking or savings account. The app is also reporting the payments I made to those credit card balances as if they were income. No, that's not right. That is money going out, not in. This app doesn't work with credit cards.
Do not buy this app, is completely useless... All the transactions are done automatically if you set them up, but you cannot fix anything, so you don't have control of your transactions. The customer service reply but only to ask you for screenshots end at the end there's no improvement since some transactions are difficult to correct. If you are using different currencies... Don't even try, since when trying to fix the amounts, they will change only to the main currency of the account...
I love this app....when it works. It is buggy and I get the "something went wrong" error message a whole lot. I also have had it double the auto pay on various days, which is a huge problem if you don't catch it. I keep deleting and downloading it again to clear the error message. It works, for now.
Really good features, like scheduling recurring expenses, budgeting, adding and editing categories and tags. I wish we could manually duplicate entries, almost like a template for a new entry, so you don't have to do everything from scratch all the time.
