Buyer be aware! Impossible to change your phone number, and if you are miraculously successful after hours of trying, they will immediately suspend your account following the change request crippling your business! They will then send you emails saying you need to call them, and then when you call, they tell you they can't do anything because your account is in review. I have been a paying user for 3 years, and today, my use of their services for credit card processing stops! No trust left!

It normally works well, and the deposits are soon after the transactions. My complaints are that the card reader often does not actually read the card. When that happens, and I have to enter the card manually, they charge a higher rate. It's not my fault the card is not being read properly, I don't think I should have to pay extra. Also, it charges the same rate for debit cards as it does for credit. That's basically overcharging for debit card use.
One problem after another. First the chip reader wouldn't connect. Then the app went offline so I couldn't even enter the customers card number manually (which would end up costing me more in fees). When I called the customer support line I got a message that said they were unavailable because they were offline, so try back later! Meanwhile the customer walked away and I lost hundreds of dollars in sales. Thanks for nothing Square!
I as a small business thought that this would be a great option. I did my first transaction for a small amount but it went through. Everything went great. The money was put on my card, no issues. I did my second transaction which was significantly higher and all the sudden they want to do a verification and put my funds on hold for 2 days which was on a Friday. So of course it was all weekend as long I had already given the product to the person that made the purchase. Terrible service.
Absolutely horrible. I accepted a credit card payment as my first transaction and they froze my account. My account went from $1,114 to 0, with no transfer initiated to my bank. 5 days later and they keep telling me they need more information. But only after I call and ask what the problem is. They want 2 days to look it over after every upload. I've had to update information 7 times and the money is still missing!!
As an android user, this app is almost more trouble than it's worth. I have been making deliveries using this app for payment with the magstripe reader. However, unlike with apple phones, the android version will often freeze right after the customer picks a tip, leaving me standing awkwardly at their door asking them to wait while the app takes minutes (even up to four!) before I can have the customer sign and they can have their order. Sometimes it even freezes the phone and I have to restart
Was ok prior to this new 3 step verification. No more just opening app plugging in reader and go. Now you have to jump through hoops to open it, or you can get a whopping 90 days before you gotta jump through hoops. Used this app for over 5 years. It never took that long to do a card payment...ridiculous! With their rates being some of the highest in the industry and now a complete inconvenience to use, I will be going elsewhere.
This was the absolute WORST financial app I've ever seen. I went through so much time and trouble to gather all the documents and verification they requested only AFTER I took payments and it was time to cash out. After sending everything over I got a message back saying they were canceling my account. I was in tears and stuck with the embarrassing task of returning payments and getting other forms. I lost sooooo much money messing with Square. I cannot warm people enough. Don't do it!!!
The app is missing one important time saver. Please add an exact amount button when tendering cash. This would save lots of time, especially when you're busy. 7/30/23: Response to Square. Quick Amounts is what you put for the product/service cost, not the amount given to you by a customer. You force me to enter 20.00 when taking a cash transaction rather than having quick buttons on the screen for "exact amount", $5, $10, $20, $50, etc., which are the standard US currency bills.
Customer service has automated responses. Despite entering my information correctly, I still got denied for cards. I can't deactivate my account becuase it was denied for cards. I have not had a positive experience with using this app. Going through the walkthrough, it actually counts that as a real transaction that can't be deleted. My account was denied even before I could enter bank information, but I entered everything in correctly multiple times. It eventually goes to no tries.
