Seems good so far! 2 changes I would make: don't default to entering a dependant, and Make it so that savings goals can be connected directly to your card for 1-time purchases. Basically, go into savings goal, hit "time to buy" button, and now when you swipe your card, for that purchase only, it takes from that instead of the spend pocket
Reviews for Step: The All-In-One Money App
← Back to Step: The All-In-One Money AppI love this app,it's great for direct deposit. The only thing I'd recommend is adding more permanant reward offers that teens and adults use on a regular basis, like fast food chains and retail chains. I'd also like to see a lock feature added for savings so I can only add but not withdraw from specific savings goals. The round up feature is literal gold, and never get rid of it. I'd like to see step work with modak in the future. I have a modak card, but the card isn't compatible with step yet
After loading money in numerous times with a particular debit card, it has stopped working. Every time I try to add the card again, it fails with an ambiguous "something went wrong". There is no obvious way to contact Step, leaving me in a frustrating position with my child whom I cannot send money to. I get trying to minimize support costs, but this is not a game it is meant to handle money... STEP contacted me and explained what was needed. They were prompt, courteous and helpful. 5 stars!
Initially, Step was a great product that allowwd me to set up my kid's allowances and gave them experience with Credit Cards. Now, my deposits are getting declined as are their purchases. Rather than reject the transaction, funds are being put into a new account that I didn't create. Support is limited to canned questions with canned responses that don't have anything to do with my provlem. I could not be more frustrated with the experience and I'm afraid I'm going to lose my money.
Was good at first, UNTIL the app had suddenly signed me out, and there was no way to be signed back in, so I had no way of seeing my account information or amount anymore, it did this without warning and didn't even bother to email me about it??? Now I can't tell what I have on my account unless I go to a family member who keeps track of giving me money. In short, what seems like a helpful app infact ISNT. It causes more problems than it's worth and I'm not the only person to see this.
I got this app so I could send money to my highschool-age son. It works as advertised but it's so hard to figure out how to send him money that I spend 5 or 10 minutes re-learning how to do it each time. You'd think it would be immediately obvious how to send money to your one, lone contact, but it's not. You have to cycle through several counterintuitive screens, and deselect a thing or two and select another thing or two, and eventually you can send the money. Oddly difficult.
Step has been amazing! There is no monthly fees. If you get charged at an ATM, step will give it back to you. I've had no issues. It's so simple transferring money, adding money, paying friends ect.. it's pretty cool you can have your own account along with your teens account and you can watch what they spend, set up weekly allowances. I don't like that it's only a credit card but that's it.
So far, so good. Finally showed on my credit report 2 months after opening, and boosted my score 2-3pts. As someone who's trying to recover my score after destroying it last year down to a 500, I couldn't qualify for any credit card that wasn't secure and most were wanting $2-$300 security deposit. Step didn't require any, and it's format prevents you from hurting your credit score, which is a huge plus if you're someone who's skilled at decimating it. Lol.
I like the app, mostly easy to navigate, sometimes it feels like the main page gets a little busy it may just be the placement. Other than that I do like I do like the app. I would have given it more stars if the Black card status was more clear in the beginning. From my understanding I thought if kept interacting with the app I would have the black card status. Now I need to pay 4.99 a month, complete turnoff, might not even really use, as the high $ back is gone. DD can't be used everywhere.
Great for saving and building credit, but it takes too long to make deposits. The app says it takes 1-3 business days, but in reality it takes more than a week. Not only does it take forever to see the money in your account, but they also draft it out of your linked account, so you're down x,y,z amount of money and it won't appear on your step account. Definitely not very time efficient. It would be better if it was faster. My other bank takes about thirty minutes to take action.
Great app. My main gripe with it is the limit on what you can take out of your account at a time. Having a $3k monthly limit for withdrawing money is excruciating low, and makes it feel pointless to save for bigger things due to the restriction. I'm going to have to find a different bank because of this; it simply isn't reasonable to longterm save with Step. (Not to mention quite a few retailers don't accept Step as a payment method, so withdrawing the money is a necessity a lot of the time)
Sometimes apps are confusingly set up, but since this is made for literal children, it's all very simple and easy to use, and this 20-year-old likes that. I also like that I was able to talk to reps. in the app and get verified by alternative means (because I don't have any gov. ID), I got a virtual number that's ready to use while I wait for the physical card, and it will supposedly help build my credit. The only thing missing that would make this PERFECT is the ability to deposit checks.
Great app to start, so easy to transfer money to my kids when they needed a little extra while out and about. I don't have to drive to them or go get cash. But with the fee new structure, fees for transfers under $25 will cause me to be looking for another option. I can't always afford $25 to send each kid. Let alone, my kids won't save it. If it's there, they'll use it. Sending $5 or $10 for some small job they did is reasonable. $25 is just too much every time.
Not a fan. I was sent a referral link that promised cash on both ends for signing up and setting up direct deposit. After two direct deposits and no credit, I combed the app multiple times trying to find out why. I'd read all the terms. No minimum was listed. However, when I reached out to customer service, they said there was a minimum, but it's too late. I don't do sketchy. There's WAY too much competition. I found no real benefit to having a Step account. Just another medicocre banking app.
I don’t usually complain, but this app got me mad. Everything was fine at first, the arcade games worked, and I spent a lot of time on them. But I finished the challenges and never got my points. Support kept saying they’d check, then just stopped replying ive sent screenshots and multiple screen recordings and still nothing is done it's been 3 weeks and still no solution. I just wanted my points that I spent hours on.
Debit card funding is no longer free. You have to "upgrade" to Step Black. So, no emergency funds for the kids without paying extra. Transfers from my bank acct to theirs are still free (& their bank acct won't allow debit card overdrafts) so Step card is now worse than their bank debit card. edit: To clarify for the reply, I did NOT mean savings. I meant my child didn't know Amazon doesn't charge until it ships & a purchase they made shipped while they were traveling leaving them stranded.
loveeeeee this app. I like that you get points on every purchase that you can turn into money/gift cards. I love that it shows your credit score. overall just a short helpful banking app. you can even make money (points) without spending a dime by playing games or doing surveys! it's nothing like THOSE survey and game apps that 'pau' you. if you know, you know.
The Step app seems to be ok. There was an unauthorized transaction on my account and they immediately gave me a provisional credit. They worked very efficient and effective on my dispute.. Ended up winning and my account was never closed. The only problem i seem to find in the app. is the limited transfers to linked banks. All in all i give it ☆☆☆☆. I would recommend it but it wouldn't be my first recommendation.
Good... for the most part, your latest update has just given it a bug. I've already done the usual, delete cache, close, restart, etc, it's still not letting me move money out of savings or even send money to somebody else on step. the app just shuts down the second I click on either. *update 10/1* working again, still waiting on my direct deposit, but app isn't crashing
Worst app ever! I've been trying to contact customer support for a week and haven't received any response. For some reason, I haven't been verified and can't get verified. I followed everything step by step with no results. Clicking the customer support link is a waste of time because you don't have the option of typing in what you need help with. I can't even close the account. Trying to close the account has a response of and I quote, "Account Uncloseable". Whatever that means.
