One of my favorite podcasts! but the new app is unusable for me. I rely heavily on the download function to be able to listen offline and as far as I can see, the new app doesn't allow that so i haven't been able to listen at all in months, probably canceling my subscription if this doesn't change
Reviews for Sword And Scale
← Back to Sword And ScaleThe app is still bad. I'm unsubbing, I would rather listen to commercials in Podcast Addict. Still won't save progress. Still uses data and streams episodes I have downloaded. I'm constantly being logged out for some reason? The Android media controls don't work. The landing page is TV instead of Podcast, adding clicks to get to where I want to be. Sorry Mike. Great podcast, but we need RSS feeds back. Give us freedom.
I thought the new app update would solve the issues I was having with the old app, but somehow it did the opposite. The old app had some quirks for me, like play/pause over headphones or my truck not working. But the new app is far, far worse. It doesn't save my episode progress, so I have to remember where I am every time I use the app, no play/pause over Bluetooth devices, sometimes the audio just pauses itself, no downloading episodes, the list goes on. I love podcast, but the app needs help.
The content is great! I love sword and scale and Mike is an amazing story teller. App specific: the sleep timer glitches(?) if you tap multiple times to select a different length of time, it will just stop the episode seemingly randomly after that. I'd love to be and to open the app and get to the last episode I was listening to. Currently, there's just a play button and it'll play whatever is latest if you click it. Having better access to player should be nice and help with continuity.
I liked the app the first two days, paid for a podcast subscription-first time ever...S&S got me thru 4 days w/o power due to storms. Day3- the app crashed or something- I can't play any episodes. I have 1 episode downloaded it plays the first 15 sec&freezes- cant fast forward or rewind, can't play prev/next episode. Canceling my subscription.. It's free podcasts or find new podcasts since I caught up,I guess. True BUMMER- I love the style he presents a case in- great story teller..App sucks!
I love Sword and Scale! Best true crime podcast. Period! The story telling is amazing, the focus is strongly on the victims, not just the regurgitation of lurid facts. They do share many of the details that most podcasts gloss over. It is definitely worth the $5! I only have one issue, occasionally, the app just stops, but it works fine 99% of the time. Still, just become a plus member, you will not be sorry!
app is broken, the podcast is fantastic but the app is terrible. I can only listen to about 5-8 minutes of an episode before the app crashes and signs me out. I have uninstalled and reinstalled more times than I can count and signed out and back in even more. I really wish I could listen to an entire episode of the podcast I pay for but right now I can't use the app at all.
Content is great. App? Not so much. My favorite true crime podcast. I listen to at least one episode a day while I'm working through my vehicle's Bluetooth connection. If I get distracted from the podcast and want to go back a few minutes I have to open my phone and do it through the app as opposed to the vehicle's controls as hitting the "back" button on my steering wheel brings me back to the beginning of the episode. App also doesn't automatically advance to the next episode. Needs work!
I absolutely LOVE this podcast! I love true crime, but never got into podcasts...until my husband's friend told me about this one as we discussed our love of true crime! I CAN'T stop listening. I started out with my audible subscription but wanted more, so I signed up for plus! I do hope the app will get a "bookmark" or "favorite" feature to save episodes (instead of dwnld); if I accidentally close out the app, it doesn't go back to where I left off, so if I forget what episode # I was on 🙄.
Been a plus member since 2021. This app simply doesn't work, I can't even stay logged in for more than a few minutes. It constantly logs you out or crashes and stops playing or both. It's sad because I haven't even been able to listen to a full episode since it became exclusive to the app, it's simply too frustrating.
I've been using this app for about a year now and I have to say that it's one of the best ones out there! It works better than most big name podcast apps, which is really saying something considering the size of this company. If i were to give any feedback (it's fine the way it is), would be to add a setting/option to view downloads in the order of download. Usually im driving when listening and it can be hard to scroll all the way to the bottom to find my newest download. Well done guys!
My absolute favorite crime podcast. App is atrocious and unusuable, and a stupid move to being app only. Update: they added a little icon for downloading that you can click but the app still doesn't work offline at all including playback or selecting an episode. So there still isn't a download feature. It also doesn't remember where you left off in the middle of an episode, not buttons for skipping or rewinding. You know what works great? The other 3 apps I have that can play podcasts!
Enjoyed the app at first, but the most important features for me are remembering where I left off and actually loading in under a minute. These two things are still not available from my current experience. I initially rated the app a 5 when it first dropped, but sadly, I had to change it. Also doesn't link up with Android Auto. So it's a major hassle if I want to listen while driving....which is often.
App is nice but one major flaw. Playback of an episode does not resume where you left off. This means having to skim through an hour or more long episode to try to figure out where you left off. Not cool. Google podcasts does remember where you left off no matter how long its been since listening to the episode. Unfortunately, SAS+ has killed off the RSS feed, which forces their users to use this app.
this podcast is great, one of my favorites. dark, audio footage from real interviews, court hearings, body cams. it's great. the app, SUCKSSSSSSS. Episodes will randomly stop, it will log you out for no reason, if a phone call comes in, the episodes will keep playing silently, leaving you to figure out where you left off. I understand losing money to people sharing a private rss, but I'd much rather listen in my preferred app.
Podcast is amazing and looking forward to watch the show. Unfortunately, the updated app (the reason for the 2 stars), doesn't seem to work in the car. It only worked while playing music on Spotify. If pause Spotify, I lose S&S audio lol. The app looks nice, but not as user friendly compared to previous version. Was also hoping the new version had Android auto capability.
The podcast is phenomenal! The best true crime podcast out there! The app however, needs work. The issues I've noticed so far are when I play an episode I can't play/pause with Bluetooth headphones after a random period of time, sometimes right away. Tried a few pairs of headphones and a couple devices, same issue persists across all devices. A feature that is hopefully coming soon but is currently missing is the ability to cast episodes from the app to speakers, tvs, etc.
It won't let me pause the audio on the pop up display player, or using the pause button on my earbuds. Response - yes it has been and still is the newest version available, still same problem. Also, it doesn't save or pick back up on the episode I am currently listening to when the app times out or it is closed. Having to go back through all the clicking and scrolling just to finish the last 5 min of an episode is so frustrating.
I can't say enough good things about this podcast. I found it on Spotify around episode 250 and was immediately hooked (I've listened to more episodes than I can count). I'm big on the facts. You'll find 911 calls, police interviews, and other content. Just a really solid podcast. Paying for additional content is 100% worth it. The app is super user friendly, and there's much more content than on Spotify!
like everyone else: this app constantly logs out, which is a major pain when you're a car listener; it doesn't save where you left of in an episode; and it randomly won't play over basic Bluetooth speakers. I get that it's tough to design your own app, but the first app was just fine -- at least it was functional. I'm going to unsubscribe at this point, as much as I love the content.
