Very awesome app for navigation. App is very top notch. I use it on a daily basis for training and navigation to an MGRS grid in the middle of the woods. Very user friendly. Alot better than a standard GPS device. Able to plot waypoints or areas of interest in the woods or any type of environment.
Reviews for Tactical NAV
← Back to Tactical NAVProbably the coolest developer I've ever communcated with, including great customer service to boot! TacNav is well worth the money...it's just about perfect. Really looking forward to the landscape option and troop tracking updates when they're released. Thanks again for your help, and for making this great app, Sir!
**Update: Thanks for the quick response Sir. You really do rock!** OG review: Freaking solid app, and customer service is on point. Use this all the time for mission planning and getting quick grids for fires. Emailed the developer and Jonathan got back to me in less than an hour. Unheard of when compared to other apps and developers. Pretty cool actually. I'm really looking forward to the landscape option and tablet compatibility. I cant recommend this app enough. Keep up the great work, Sir.
I'm an OCT at JRTC and use this app every rotation. Works very well for several us on my team that use it. I have tried many over the years and this is the most user-friendly. I would have given it 5 stars but the last update wiped out all the waypoints we had saved throughout the Box and Peason Ridge.
This version seems to have much more functionality than the last one. I was very disappointed as a long time user of the previous version to find out that the update was released as a new product. Nothing like paying for something a second time. 5 star application, minus one for making me pay again.
Outstanding mobile targeting app. I'm a targeting officer (warrant/former NCO) and this app gets the job done. Definitely needs a horizontal option. Once that's included, along with some other incremental updates, I can see this app replacing a lot of legacy systems that are currently in use throughout the force. Awesome to see a fellow field artilleryman making all this happen. KoB!💥
This app is a game changer. I use it every time I hunt because I'm directionally challenged, and I'm still alive. I've honestly never spent money on an app until I bought this, and it was worth every cent. You have every single feature you could ever need for land nav. Gonna go out for hogs this week on land I've never been to. I'm proud to say I'll be relying on your app to get me out alive. 10/10 good app.
In the Army, my favorite subject to teach and perform in the field was land navigation. This app is a great tool to supplement map, compass, and protractor. I can explore the mountains around my home off trail and not worry about getting turned around in the woods. Air Assault!
Love the app. It's very clean and simple to use. Maybe I overlooked it but I would love to be able to name my geometries as well as have the ability to connect lines for straight and freehand graphics. Also a database with graphics (much like units) would be a nice addition.
Bought the old version in 2021 before I went to basic training. Obviously, I couldn't use my phone then, but it sure helped in AIT and at my current duty station as well as the camping trips I've been on. Im looking forward to the new version with all the updates and extras. From what I've seen so far in the short time of using the new version, it has a lot of potential for me. Especially the drawing aspect. This will be a game changer!!! Keep up the good work!!!
Out-freaking-standing app sir! Using at AT and while I've only had it for a little bit the functionality and ease of use are top notch. Looking forward to really digging into it and seeing all that I can do with it. Glad to also support someone looking out for the guys on the ground while also giving back to the community.
The best land nav map. Easily allows you to drop pins and pull grids. Has all the Army ground unit org symbols if you want to plot those as well. Has a compass with mils as well as degrees. You can even take a picture in the app, and it will mark the grid, DTG, latitude and longitude, and heading in degrees, mils, and cardinal directions. And you can plot it on the map. Only thing it's missing is importing maps from PDF's, etc..and Jon at TacNav said that is in the works.
Wow, Tactical NAV surpasses my expectations, and I've been patiently waiting for this update to be released! The devs truly nailed this app, as it is exactly like the iOS app. I have already used it in the field during an artillery live fire. Bottom line, TacNav is accurate, so much so that I was able to create my own fires plan with ease, and I even shot arty using the app. All rounds were observed safe and accurate, and they impacted exactly on target. Very imoressive for a commercial app!!!
Outstanding app! As a planner this is perfect for on- site planning and ensuring support is received. I always get positive feedback from other planners using it as well. Thanks!
Very nice app with features. I especially liked the photo option to attach on map. Sadly, after latest OS update (Graphene OS latest) it crashes everyt ime i trying to launch it. It is especially annoying, since i bought it and extra options and now i can't use it...
There are many nice, if not crucial, features that are exclusively thought of from a "hands on" perspective. Be it hiking or actual danger environment, this app is a beast. Anything can be improved, and the grassroots process of this app is a chance for all of us to improve any tiny bugs or design issues. Thanks again, Jonathan!
Not very user friendly. Doesn't allow you to delete things easily. Created an entire overlay and wanted to delete one drawing. Had it selected but kept saying I must select at least one event. Deselected and it deleted my entire overlay. Creator is over thinking it too. All these military symbols but not a standard CP symbol. No one is creating a BN overlay on this thing. Do the simple things right before trying to create a complex nav app.
I use Tactical Nav for general recreational hiking, and prefer this app because of its UTM grid support. It's responsive and, combined with my bluetooth receiver, very accurate. My main gripes are: When I use the degrees option with the map measurement tool to project a waypoint, I have to stop and do mental math (if going westerly) to subtract from 360. Would like the degrees to directly follow a compass rose. Second, it would be nice if other maps could be used (open maps, mapforge). Thanks!
I am a huge fan of this app and have been using it for years. I was using the app well before the huge update and repurchasing the app was not a big deal. Tac Nav has a good amount of tactical symbols and even if you can't find what you're looking for, you can draw it out. Eventually I'll bite the bullet and purchase the offline map, but my demand isn't that high yet. all in all, you cannot go wrong with this app
Edit*** updated*** i was notified that the firmware is being fixed the ceo reached out to me immediately and notified me of the work in progress fixing the issue of not being able to import overlays previously saved. I appreciate the fast feedback I hope they resolve it soon I would like to get back to using this app!!
