I have used Talkatone for around 4 years, I've used they're service recently intermittently for a short period of time this year. Normally, I would try to write a positive review, something that in of itself would show my satisfaction for the act. However, giving someone less than 12 hours of notice about the phone number, which I've used for 4 years, that's integrated into a bunch of programs which I use, a service which I PAYED for to keep said number, to be taken away in less than 24 hours with no notice. And wouldn't allow me to transfer said number earlier last year for the soul purpose of not losing the number, thanks Talkatone, I'm not a happy consumer, but at least you made some money off of me. (Oh yeah, the number was also unclaimed when I asked for them to get it back for me, they refused to do so, saying that if I wanted to keep my number next time, to pay for talkatone plus)
Reviews for Talkatone: Texting & Calling
I paid for Talkatone Plus to make calls, but the service has been very disappointing. Calls often don’t ring on the other party's phone, or when they do connect, there's no audio on either side. Out of 20 attempts, only one call was successful. These issues make the app unreliable and frustrating to use. I expected much better performance, especially from a paid service. Not recommended for anyone looking for a reliable calling app.
Call quality is good, and outbound calls work well, but inbound calls usually drop before connecting due to the lag between the push notification of a call and the app connecting to answer. Also, about half the text messages I sent were not received by the recipients. I tried to work with support, but they only pasted generic responses, some completely unrelated to my issue. When I asked for escalated support, they told me to cancel. Not worth the $4 a month I paid for Talkatone plus.
I got a message that I'd lost my number, despite the fact that I was using it. So I went ahead and picked a new number, as I had no choice. Not even a week later I get a new message stating I will lose that number. I contacted support and got some generic reply that showed either you didn't bother fully reading it or the whole lot of you are illiterate. I don't know, you take your pick...by the way, feel free to pick both!! I stopped using it once before because of issues, guess it's ✌️ again!
I'm not going to say this app is good. Just OK. Barely tolerable. If I had just started using the app more recently, like in the past 4-5 months, I would have probably given a 5-star review because it works perfectly fine now. Thing is, I've actually had this app for over 2 years, and for at least 1.5 years it was basically unusable. So I can't just simply deny and throw away all those months when it was not working. I don't know why this was happening. Basically it was always showing up the "No Internet Connection" sign even when there was connection for most of the time, so I was hardly ever able to talk or send messages on it. To be specific, I was using a Wifi connection. So it just so happens that when I finally got data, in the past 4-5 months, Talkatone started working properly. But this is not how things should be happening. Talkatone claims that it can work without data, and also I don't see how getting data should change how Talkatone behaves, because for data I got a whole separate number. My Talkatone phone number is different from my data phone number. So this is something that really needs to be studied and fixed.
This has to be the worst text/ calling app available. I've done the free version and the paid and it doesn't matter. You constantly have to wait for it to " connect to server," which sometimes it never does. While waiting you can't call or text but it has no problem displaying adds. It also randomly signs you out , sometimes in the middle of phone calls , which then drop.
Used this app for years on Android and iOS with no issues what so ever. Started using the premium on my Android a few months back. Well, it worked great for about two months, then it just quit receiving any calls or messages all together, but I can send and make calls just fine. I wouldn't have even known had someone not told me that they had sent messages for two weeks and wasn't getting a reply. So, I tried reinstalling, tried contacting the company. Nothing. Time to find something else. 😞
The app crashes a lot. Phone calls do not seem to last longer than a couple of minutes. It seems to be noise sensitive, meaning if you speak softly you will continue to have the problem of disconnecting. When I stretch my vocal cords and speak louder it doesn't disconnect. Sometimes the other party will hang up, it won't allow me to hang up. It says I'm on call, but completely silent. I've been told by multiple people that half the calls I send out don't ring on their end.
Connecting...tap to restart connection. This is the message I constantly get when trying to use this app and it's infuriating. It doesn't matter if I have a full, high speed signal on wifi or cellular, I still get that message and cannot call or text until the connection is established. Sometimes it takes a few seconds, sometimes it just doesn't connect and I have to try again later, and that's not good when you are trying to use your number for important calls and texts.
I "thought" it was ok. So I paid for the premium so I could receive automated delivery texts and more perks supposedly. You only get 580 character/spaces for your text. I would like to see it go up to 1000 or at least add an additional 200 characters to the implemented 580. They don't. Perhaps they never will. So I quit paying for the premium because it really offers nothing and I am currently seeking an application such as this that offer more bang for my buck.
