So here's my take on TaxBird - Residency Tracker. I've tested a bunch of finance/tax apps and this one's pretty solid. The automatic location tracking and residency threshold alerts are really handy if you're constantly traveling for work or just like to move around a lot. The reporting is detailed and should be accepted by tax authorities. On the downside, the location tracking can be spotty at times and it takes a while to set everything up. But once it's running, it works pretty well.

Pros

  • Automatic, background location tracking is super convenient
  • Gives you alerts when you're approaching a residency threshold
  • Detailed reports you can use to prove your tax residency
  • Works across countries, states, and provinces
  • Free to use, no need to pay for premium features

Cons

  • Location tracking can be a bit unreliable at times
  • Takes some time to get everything set up properly
  • Might drain your battery a bit more than you'd like
  • Not much in the way of advanced features or customization

Description

Been using TaxBird – Residency Tracker for a couple months now. It’s basically an app that lets you easily keep track of which countries, states, and provinces you’ve been spending time in. Pretty solid if you’re always traveling and need to prove your tax residency status.

Here’s what you do: the app runs in the background and automatically tracks your location, then shows you how many days you’ve spent in each place. There’s also a feature that’ll give you a heads up when you’re getting close to a residency threshold. And the reporting at the end of the year looks pretty comprehensive – you can download a summary to use for tax purposes.

Look, if you’re always on the move and need to keep tabs on your whereabouts, you’ll probably find this app useful. It’s not perfect – the location tracking can be a bit buggy sometimes – but overall it does the job. Worth checking out if that’s the kind of thing you need.
