Description

Been using Text Free for about 3 months now. It’s basically a way to get a second phone number for texting and making calls without having to buy another phone or SIM card. Pretty handy if you need a spare number for work stuff or just don’t want to give out your real one.

The app’s pretty straightforward – you pick a number from their list (there’s usually decent options for most area codes), and boom – you’ve got yourself a working phone number. You can text and make calls just like your regular phone app. There’s also this thing where you can earn credits by watching ads if you don’t want to pay for call time, which is kinda nice but gets old pretty quick.

Look, if you’re someone who needs a second number for whatever reason – maybe you’re selling stuff online, doing some freelance work, or just want a backup – this’ll probably work for you. It’s not perfect (the free version can be pretty ad-heavy), but it gets the job done. The calls are decent quality most of the time, though you’ll want a solid internet connection for the best results.

Editor Opinion

So here's my honest take after using this for a while. I've tried a bunch of second-number apps, and Text Free is pretty middle-of-the-road. It's not gonna blow your mind, but it's reliable enough for what it is. The best part is probably how easy it is to set up - took me like 2 minutes to get going. But real talk: the free version feels a bit limiting. You'll either need to watch ads for credits or shell out some cash for unlimited calling. The texting's totally free though, which is nice. Compared to Google Voice, it's not quite as polished, but it's way easier to get the number you want. I'd say it's worth trying if you need a second number and don't mind dealing with some ads.
