Reviews for The NBC App - Stream TV Shows

← Back to The NBC App - Stream TV Shows

This app is absolutely awful!! For 2 years I've consistently had to spend more time just trying to get an episode to actually play than I have watching the episode once it finally starts. And if you want to Chromecast, forget it; they might as well just acknowledge that they don't support it, because I get it to work about 1 out of 20 times, if I'm lucky. It's complete garbage, and I'm on the verge of abandoning all NBC shows, because they aren't worth the trouble of dealing with the app!!

It crashes a lot. Dont bother trying to get into a series almost everything is locked unless you have some sort of TV provider to link to. The episodes skip a lot its rather annoying. I was watching a show last night it was working just fine, and now it just wants to continue loading, and once popped up with a notice saying I couldn't watch it even after linking to an account. This app is really not worth the hassle, or your time. I would give 0 stars if I could because there are so many flaws.

App seems to work ok, not sure about with other shows, haven't watched any others yet just downloaded it, but "This Is Us." keeps skipping spots in the middle of episodes. not sure if it's a flaw in the app or not but it's irritating. I have to back out of the app and restart it to get it get it to stop skipping. Also it's ridiculous all the commercials, one scene of the episode, then 3, 4, 5, as many as 7 commercials completely ridiculous. I'm using the app on an Amazon fire stick.

Absolutely awful performance. Don't expect to actually watch anything on this app, much less live. I tried to load a TV show for a full 10 minutes before finally giving up. Anytime I tried to load the live TV show, it would skip back to the last 2 minutes of the last TV show, play that clip for about 30 seconds, and then buffer endlessly. I'm a software engineer. This is unacceptable. There are better streaming services out there. This had ONE JOB and it couldn't handle it.

The app goes down from time to time. When it does, it is can be down for a few minutes to days or even weeks before it gets fixed. This has been an on going problem for years. However, the app typically works for the most part and it is great. It has all my favorite shows from (now) most of my favorite networks. The comercial breaks can be a bit long. Typically during a 1-hour show, there are multiple (about 5 or so) commercial breaks with 3-7 seperate commercials each break.

As TV apps go, NBC is pretty well set up and easy to use, although it's a little glitchy. Sometimes there's a weird skipping ahead on shows. Sometimes there's no sound. I find that most of the time, if I close the app and reopen it, that usually resolves the problem. Once in a while, it seems to disconnect from my cable TV provider account, so I have to reconnect it. But I use the app a lot and am generally satisfied.

I love getting to watch my favorite shows on my time! I also love that it allows streaming anytime and doesn't block old episodes. My one complaint is about the commercials. When you rewind, even if a few seconds too far, it makes you watch the commercials again. Most of those commercials, mind you, repeat a couple times before moving on (I'm sorry I can only hear "Going to the Chapel" so many times).

Downloaded this so I could continue The Good Place, season 3 & it works great for that! I don't mind the ads, since it's just like commercials on regular NBC TV. The only thing that's annoying is that when I click the back 10 seconds button, it sometimes makes me re-watch all the commercials, which is frustrating. Otherwise, I have no issues with lagging etc, and I can watch some of my favs!

Half of the time when I start watching a show, the volume doesn't work (for the show and commercials) so I have to close the app and start over. The app will often freeze and keep playing in the background, even when I go to another app or turn my phone screen off, I can still hear the audio going on and on but the app and video will be unresponsive. There's sooo many commercials and they're all repetitive.

By far, the worst of the streaming tv apps. It has the usual issues like more commercials than actual content, but then the application itself hardly functions. It doesn't save progress so you have to manually find where you left off (and not before going through 100 ads). It barely works with casting devices, about 60% of the time, forcing you too restart the whole process sometimes. It's like they didn't even test UX, and they want people to pay for a subscription? Peacock is the same.

Freezes up all the time when using with a Chromecast. Starts over so you have to re-watch theany many commercials. If you pause the show and lock your phone, when you try to resume the show it goes back to the beginning. All sorts of problems. Again, this is all when using Chromecast, so maybe it is fine on it's own. But it definitely seems like it's designed to make you watch dozens of commercials over and over.

This is a shockingly clunky app, especially from an established company like NBC. It's prone to freezing and crashing, but wait till you hear what else is going on with this catastrophe of epic proportions, because that's not even the craziest part! When commercials come up, the screen goes ultra dim and the huge pause button pops into the center of the frame, staying this way for the duration. What this means is that while you still have to sit through the commercials, you basically don't get to see what's going on. It makes commercials worse, which is special I guess, but hey-- not all special things are good things. The worst part, though, is that the app basically has no memory. This is excruciating. Hitting the back button even once, or switching back and forth between apps, generally brings you all the way home, usually simply finishing an episode through the end credits does this, too. What this amounts to is the following absolute insanity: in order to watch the next episode in a series, you need to open the menu, find the search icon, wait for search to load, type in the name of your show, wait for the search to process, scroll through and select the correct show from the list, wait for that to load, choose the correct season, and finally scroll horizontally in portrait mode two episodes at a time (because the app only rotates once you're watching) to the episode you want, click it, sit through a dark commercial or two, hope the app doesn't lock up, and finally you're watching! You must do this nearly every time, after every episode. Yet it remembers that on the first day I ever used it, I only watched half of an episode of House, and asks me every time the home screen comes up if I want to finish watching that. This is the one thing it reliably remembers. It's wild. If this wasn't the literal only way to stream certain programs, you better believe I'd use something else (and I do in every single case where another streaming service has the show I want. They are all superior to this thing).

TOO MANY ADS!! In one 40 minute episode, I encountered 3 SETS of 6-7 ads!! And they don't even show you how long an ad is like it does on Youtube. Also after the ads, the sound and video do not sync anymore so I have to always do a playback right after. Honestly had no choice but to download this app because I had nowhere else to watch the last season of a series I was so into.

Been using the app for a long time, but now it's become constantly glitchy not wanting to playor having to restart the app completely with shows skipping around and more commercials than ever, you never get a reply when you email support, and worse, i gave my friend my old phone, and the app wouldn't let her register, just keep saying it's an invalid email address. Plus, they now make you wait a full week after an episode to watch some shows. Booooo!

Its nice to catch up on my episodes, BUT one huge issue I have is that 90% of the episodes that im trying to catch up on are locked and they don't offer anything to purchase or watch ad's to unlock each episodes. It's very frustrating because we currently have no cable, antenna (local chn), satellite or internet due to financial status. I got so excited when I finally realized I found the show's I wanted to catch up on, EXCEPT majority of them are locked. Other than that it's a good app.

You've gotta expect this "free! Free! FREE!!!" app would expect us to sit through a few ads, but they are way too many WAY too often, plus everything seems to be locked down. The only things that are free! Free! FREE!!! are short clips for shows you can't watch without paying for the premium package. I quickly deleted the app but I just know they're now gonna bombard me with emails that are also misleading (i.e. lying) so I'll have to block that, too. Why did I even think it would be different?

Commercials are fast and few. Signed up for the profile & received 3 credits. Yet there literally is no other way to gain any more credits. This is very frustrating! Update..Will be deleting this app. They have the first half of a season locked, with no way to get credits to unlock. But the last half of the season is unlocked. Gee, Thanks.

I saw the comments saying to many adds but thought I would try it anyway. To many adds is right!! 5-8 adds for each break is insane. What's worse is you can't fast forward without more adds. To continue watching from the middle of an episode is a pain. Each time I move the fast forward bar to locate where I left off I have to watch more adds. If it's the wrong spot and I move it again, even more adds. I just watched 16 adds to continue watching my show. Uninstalling, it's not worth the time wasted.

Overall, a great app for viewing all your favorite shows, even older shows no longer playing. I'm currently binging Quantum Leap epidodes. Good menu, easy search engine, easy browser, high quality video/audio feed. One major drawback... ADS... every show starts with at least one ad, which is fine... sometimes there are several ads together. But, ads pop up at random while you watch... often in groups of 3, 4, 5, or 6... and you can't skip them, you have to watch them.

Please offer a subscription! I'd happily pay to not have to watch the commercials. I will sit through a couple of episodes, but there's no way I'm watching even 10% of the content I would stream if the commercials were gone. There are a lot of fantastic shows on NBC. With a commercial-free option and a slightly less wonky 'resume watching' option, this would easily be a 5-star app. It's easy to use and lists your Favorites where they're easy to see.
