NOT GOOD FOR PROFESSIONALS!! Their pricing is all over the place and never consistent. When you ask for them to explain it, they even say it's confusing. I was charged $18 for what they felt was a perfect match. I had no contact with the potential client and I was charged. When I reached out and booked a client, I was charged $8. I would not recommend for any professional to use Thumbtack.
Reviews for Thumbtack: Hire Service Pros
← Back to Thumbtack: Hire Service ProsOverall, Thumbtack has been a lifesaver! It's such a smart idea and the app is pretty easy to use. I've had a few jobs successfully completed and will continue to use it. However, I wish there were a way to signal to other companies that you've found who you're going with. Additionally, sometimes the conversation moves to text and Thumbtack doesn't know this and keeps notifying you to respond tp their message.
A confusing mess. I submitted a project. Then I received names of four contractors. Entered app on laptop, but told that there it doesn't recognized me. Entered by phone, and my project had disappeared. Meanwhile, I'm getting emails from contractors sent to my email account, but I cant access them without logging into app. Once in app, it's all gone. Deleting.
Love love this app! It's so convenient, and free! I've hired 3 people off it so far and they were great. Best thing? I can contact people on my phone, Thumbtack asks to send it to other contractors, I can ask all my questions and compare them all with out having to track numbers down and have to have a pen and paper. Best part, I've done it after 7pm when I actually have time and not having to wait for them to open and also remembering to do it. Get stuff done way faster and easier. Love it!
In my area if you have a job under a certain square footage, no one calls you. Your job is too small (sorry townhouse owners!), there is no filter to stop you from wasting your time... The app recommends providers who it thinks would be a good fit. They just don't call, or when you do get a call, they straight up say they are only bothering with jobs larger than yours. Thanks for letting me know...I guess? This was indeed a waste of my time.
"Support local pros" is part of their tag line, but the app does not let you select for location. Say I hire for a $150 job and a week later I need a small 5 minute adjustment. If it takes a pro an hour to get to my house, they have to spend 2 hours for no pay. But if the pro lives 15 minutes away, they can swing by on their way to another job and it didn't cost them anything, but they've gained my loyalty. This app is almost useful.
Horrible user interface in Professional app. 7 times I was railroaded into a menu, forcing me to close out the app every time. When asking for my region, it defaulted 50 miles from my city, but did not offer a scroller by miles in order to specify region; instead they opted for checking each individual county in the region, leading to a lot of wasted time and an irregular radius of work. After that, they told me it would be 35 dollars a week to supply me with 3-4 leads. Criminal.
Too hard to navigate thru the app. The whole process of finding one to work for me. Also, once I enter my info for the job, I can't find the message(s) that the person interested in doing a job for me left. My number on the info I gave is gone also!!! What no calls aloud! No call backs? I won't use this app in the future & will defiantly spread the word that it sucks. Reading numerous other reviews, most people feel the same as I. Maybe you should make it A LOT EASIER for the average laymen.
I hired a professional who did not complete the job and damaged my materials in the process. Going through their customer service was a nightmare and took hours of my time and weeks to finish. When all was said and done, they issued me a partial refund (which was appreciated), but then proceeded to block my account from ever booking any services through the app again. Overall, a shady and frustrating experience.
I have been using Thumbtack for closer to 2 years. The app is updated frequently and becomes less user friendly with each update. I receive a ton of emails from Thumbtack but not when a pro is actually reaching out to me. Lately I have had to hunt those down. Also, I am offered a limited list of contractors (that I'm sure have paid an extra fee) to contact for each inquiry. I see the same contractors regardless of the gig. I don't mind prioritization but it would be great to have more options.
This app is frustrating and convoluted to use. It forces itself to be the coordinator for all your projects whether or not that's what you want. We couldn't look up the names of housecleaners in our area without telling the app when we wanted the service to start, how many rooms we had, etc. That's NONE OF YOUR BUSINESS! Just let me search for businesses by type and location. Even when I knew the name of the business, I could not look it up by name.
I signed up a week ago and was in the middle of discussing scheduling with a contractor when I opened the app and found that I was unexpectedly logged out. When I try to log back in, it says "We encountered an error, please try again." It does this consistently. To make matters worse, there is no way to get in contact with their support team if you are not able log in. So incredibly frustrating.
the quotes has gotten too expensive , and the customers don't even know, or have no idea that is, the pros are being charged a fee. and is not fair , for the customer to reach out to 5 different Pros , and only one of them will make the deal, the other 4 are out of luck and still being charged. and on top of that Thumbtack profits from all 5 Pros , but only one makes the deal. it's not fair.
The platform sends the same customer to multiple pros at the same time and charges each of them a high fee—for example, a $150 job might be sent to four pros, each paying $40. I used the service for a few days, always choosing the highest-priced match, and ended up spending several hundred dollars without getting a single customer. Most of the customers I was matched with didn’t respond to my messages at all. Honestly, it feels like a scam.
I can't say if any pros are good or not. I can the responses were very quick. I still have no idea how to get through to them though. A link was sent in which it said "read message". Clicking that link opened a blank screen. Several attempts later with the same results. So, though I got three wiling pros, I'll never know how they may be.
The new "AI" is horrible. I was trying to find mobile car detailing, and while the follow up prompts were relevant, the final suggestion was for house cleaning or junk removal. I tried 5 times with different variations, but always got house cleaning or junk removal, never car detailing. I also could not find a way to use the "old search" without going through the AI prompts.
Poor Features and Lack of 'Pros.' I dislike how the app shares your phone number with your "professionals." I'd prefer to communicate exclusively within the app. It is hit or miss as to whether you can find a pro to complete your job. I couldn't find a handyman to install my wired floodlight. Pros would decline, never responding to a message. It is more trouble than it is worth.
simply cannot use. repeatedly asks for a phone number to text confirmation code. Cold never comes. after spending an hour troubleshooting and looking for solutions, I've come up with nothing. no numbers blocked for texting. I planned to sign up as a pro but definitely won't be using this app. everything is dependent on getting the confirmation code by text and no alternative method is allowed.
I was able to hire a couple of good professionals from the Thumbtack app, but my account was deactivated with no warning or reason given. When I asked why, the support team told me my request would not be considered and didn't provide any reason. Also, beware of pros who use an automated reply to answer your request within one minute so that their company is listed higher on the algorithm. I found great pros by chatting with individuals who cared about doing the work over booking the work.
The system is wonky,it's luck of the draw on who you get sometimes, and it's just as expensive as hiring uplumbing service, no savings at all. If you make the mistake of contacting more than one person for some reason. They don't read your responses or they don't get them, and they keep bugging you until you have to directly unlink yourself from them on the app. Don't know if I could recommend. I got lucky with the guy I hired, but very very expensive.
