I've had Tidal for years because of the fidelity. However, this app has been absolute garbage as of late. I constantly get connection errors while driving my car and listening to music. I have to literally toggle my mobile data off and then back on in order to play music again. This is extremely irritating. I've cleared cache, deleted app data, reinstalled, etc. I did recently upgrade to a Fold 7 from a Fold 5 and I don't recall if this was going on before when I had the Fold 5.
Reviews for TIDAL Music: HiFi sound
← Back to TIDAL Music: HiFi soundRecently switched from Spotify and I feel good about it. Ultimately you gotta accept it's *not* Spotify, so there are gonna be some tracks and features missing but my mind is resting easy and the sound quality is definitely something to write home about. The one feature I really find myself missing that I am BEGGING the devs to implement is collaborative playlists. Let me build playlists with my friends and I'm 100% on board.
the app makes awful new music suggestions. it doesn't keep a chronological order of new music recommendations. an artist I listen to frequently might drop a song or album and it wouldn't be recommended. furthermore, people are uploading music under different artists names, but the songs are from said artist. the only positive I have from this app is sound quality and cheap price. but I guess I'm getting what I paid for.
Overall I like the service. There are 2 issues in particular that I dropped stars for. Some albums have issues with being way too quiet on android auto regardless of the normalize volume setting. It's to the point where I just can't listen to them when traveling. The other is recently I've had issues with the app pausing my music for network connection issues when I'm playing a downloaded playlist. This should never be an issue with downloaded music.
I've been using tidal for several years now, and while I'm fine with the service I would never recommend it to anyone. The platform is plagued with AI music, music from different artists on the same page, or sometimes missing music all together. The changes in the past few years have been good, and the app is getting better. The app on Android runs very smoothly for me, and I haven't experienced any bugs. The desktop app on Windows however is very slow.
I like tidal as a service, however the app has no support for devices that are locked to landscape, such as my android headunit. There is no way for me to navigate back out of a song, without uninstalling and re-installing the app each time. The support staff have been incredibly unhelpful, deny any problem, and recommending the same boilerplate "fixes"; 80% of which I cannot do, as again, I can't navigate outside the current song. All it would take is to add 1 back button to the player.
I get connection issues every 10 songs if I don't download them, even on the browser version on my PC. Once I get this error, I can't stream music for at least an hour. It really sucks because I would love to rate the quality of the app otherwise a solid 5 stars, but this connection issue makes it borderline unusable half the time, unless I fill my phone's hard drive with just music.
So far it seems like a nearly 1:1 replacement for Spotify, and fixes some of the gripes I have with Spotify. The big thing I miss from Spotify is the alarm clock integration. The search feature will also not pull up artists until you actually hit the enter button sometimes- it would be better if it just didn't preview an incorrect search. I love how light and easy to use it is to use and to organize music.
it's a good app if you're willing to pay for the premium service, however not great for anyone looking to use the free features. You can only upload 500 songs from Spotify (unless ,once again, you want to pay an entirely different service to transfer those songs) and doesn't have a search bar feature. I also found that for half the time I had it, it only played 30 seconds of each song, and when I tried logging out and logging back in, it completely deleted all the tracks I had uploaded 🙃
Works as expected for the most part. Issues I have are with Android Auto. First, when I power off my audio in my car, it should auto pause whatever is playing, but it doesn't. Minor issue. Big issue is that I can't select individual songs in an album or playlist from my car screen like I can with Spotify. It's a real problem. I'm guessing it's a "safety" measure but honestly, it's less safe because people are going to open their phones and select the track anyway. I do. PLZ FIX IT, then 5 stars!
Amazing quality, but they're too elitest to be convenient. The app doesn't support local file playback/organization, which is extremely important to me when dealing with a subscription to something that doesn't have every piece of content available. I can't play music that they don't have without switching to a different app. That may sound like it makes sense, but it's terribly inconvenient and goes against the point of having a music app.
Enjoying the switch from Spotify, but the app will not allow me to "heart" any new tracks. Says there is an issue and to try again later. Edit 9/6/2025 The reason I cannot like anymore music is because I have reached the max of 9,999 liked tracks. That is absurd. The customer service rep suggested I unlike tracks to be able to like additional music... I wont be doing that. I will be switching services.
Artist availability and quality of sound is fine. However, the user interface is terrible. I really wanted this to work as a replacement for Spotify, but I just keep having issues with the App. For example, I forgot my password and cannot even reset it because the verification email never reaches my inbox. Yes, I checked the spam folder and nothing. I reached out to customer support and days later still no answer. At this point I cannot even cancel my subscription!
You can't store your own stuff even on your own device through the app. I'm switching off soon. They can't even play the music from a playlist they created! It took 2 songs for them to abandon it! I've used Tidal for like a year and have never seen an update. The music stops randomly all the time. You cannot trust it to just run. They do not care about the user.
Please give us the option to turn off recommendations or just put our own playlists at the top when we open the app. I don't want to see "user playlists", I don't want to see "Uploads for you" from random indie artists I've never heard of, I want to see my music! And bring back the new drop sections for albums and singles from artists we listen to (or similar), back at the bottom of the home page like it used to be. Every new "update" just makes it more and more annoying to use.
Update. 12/24. Horrible app plauged with issues. Have to redownload 100+ gigs of songs weekly now. Offline listening is a lie. Simple concept, if the song is downloaded, then it doesn't need to connect to the internet to play, full stop. It's insane how bad this is. The app refuses to play downloaded media without the internet, defeating the entire purpose. In "Offline Mode" half of my "Downloaded" songs are not available. What a joke. Now, they are dropping artists, causing my lists to crash.
After having Tidal for several years, I canceled my subscription. The app stopped playing music when I wasn't connected to WiFi even when I had great cellular service (and an unlimited data plan). Only downloaded tracks worked... kinda ridiculous. When I went to YouTube music to stream the same song it played immediately. It wasn't a service issue. I do like the layout of the app.
Fantastic music quality and so glad they pay more per stream to the artist. The glaring UI issues, interruption of songs, not being able to control Tidal on another device from your phone, slow loading no matter the Wi-Fi or connection you have kept me off the app though. You shouldn't have to download third party software to get an app to work properly. I love this app and streaming service but the system needs to be fixed.
Unmatched sound quality, excellent curated playlists, fantastic UI. It's only flaw, down right terrible search algorithm. Almost inexcusably bad. I thought there would be no way I would leave Spotify. After spending so long listening to CD quality music, Spotify sounds like garbage. This becomes more apparent using premium speakers or headphones. Fix the search algorithm for the love of God.
Generally speaking, the app works alright. It still isn't quite as fluid or "pretty" as Spotify, but that's okay. Lately it seems that if I am listening via Tidal Connect, then stop for a while & it disconnects, it doesn't work right the first time I reconnect. For instance, I reconnected and kept playing the same song, then when I tried to change to a new song, it disconnected and jumped to the middle of the new song?? To be clear, updating did not fix this.
