Reviews for TomTom - Maps & Traffic

← Back to TomTom - Maps & Traffic

Amigo was excellent app. The replacement, TomTom has very little functionality, the warnings do not work, you can not change voice, no option to login to bring in your favorites and settings, no automatic start .... The list goes on. Typical example of trying to fix what was not broken and disappointing users in the process.

not particularly pleased with the recent changes from "amigo" to just "GPS". I'm missing the linking it to the car, but far worse is the fact that you are very late in updating the texts for the directions you want to go. e.g. when going in .nl from the A12 onto the A28 you tell us to follow roadsigns for "Groningen". they aren't there. The signs say "Hengelo" and other places. that isn't the only place where the app is effectively misdirecting the user.

Since the update from AmiGo to TomTom, settings (like 3d buildings, traffic flow etc.) set in the app on phone do not apply when using the app on Android auto. Traffic also does not show at all while using AA. Selected map view just randomly resets during the drive, and is not saved for the next time you use the app. Also, it seems that you can't pan the map at all. So yeah, quite big things to fix.

I like that it was free. The graphics kind of remind me of Garmin's, which is a good thing. The font size on my phone is so small for upcoming roads that it makes it half as helpful as it could be. (Difficult even with brand new prescription eyeglasses. I'm not sure I could have read it at any distance even when I was a teenager.) When navigating to an address, I like that little flash It give you as a heads up. It seems they want to make this some sort of social app as well. That has no appeal.

As a long time user I'm very disappointed with the latest update. The auto start and voice alerts were USPs and now they're gone and it's just become another standard nav app like Waze or Google Maps. Update: the voice alerts are now working but they're too quiet. Previously there was an option to play the alerts through the phone speaker which was my preference but that option seems to have gone and I can't see any way to increase the volume when it comes through my car Bluetooth connection.

Fresh take on navigation, let me go with the things that I liked the most, It gives you option to select the preferred navigation mode, 1. Fuel 2. Time 3. Distance 4. Adventure UI is cleaner compared to other apps, still provides alerts. 3d buildings and navigation. Things that I didn't like, (Canada) Tolls. I specifically selected to avoid tolls, it still took me through 407 ETR on almost every trip. Maps are not updated, road closures are not shown Hope these issues are fixed soon.

Useless since it was changed from AmiGo. There are no longer audio voice warnings for speed cameras or audio telling you your average speed when you are on an average speed route. Instead, you get a beep sound and a message on the screen meaning you got to take your eyes off the road to try and read it. All boxes have been ticked for audio options and warnings but they are not what they used to be. I really feel that something that was good has become dangerous due to having to read warnings.

It was a 5+ star app. My main use was when my phone was in my pocket and locked. It would start automatically and alert me if I went over the speed limit. The camera alerts were a nice add on and the overlay mode when navigating was useful. Now all the good bits have gone and we're just left with camera alerts. Speed alerts were hit and miss for the last few years. If there is some reason why you can't do them anymore, just say that. Uninstalling for now, but I'll come back to check on it.

Editing review almost a year after the developer promissed to resolve the issue which I mentioned earlier hasn't been resolved! The overlay function that appears on top of Maps was fantastic along with speed limit. But speed limit isn't displaying anymore. Now it only shows speed I am travelling which is shown by my dash camera and the Maps too. If speed limit isn't included then there's no point having this app. Thanks for this app, I've enjoyed for over 5 years, now it's time to say, "See ya"!

Map is missing too many streets. App doesn't allow nearly enough customization (ie. you're stuck with the blue arrow as the vehicle icon). Very disappointing given how exceptionally well TomTom's SatNav devices performed. Additional: despite reporting missing streets, the map remains unchanged. Outdated maps are of little use. This app isn't worthy of TomTom. Uninstalled.

Increasingly sending me to the wrong place. I put in Carl's Jr and it sent me to Sonic. This kind of thing has happened several times. When I'm delivering, sometimes it will get me close to where I'm going, but down the street, or around the corner, or even sends me down sketchy allys.... This app needs A LOT of bug fixing / improvements to its maps. I can not recommend this to anyone who NEEDS accuracy in their GPS app.

Love the fact that it shows both the speed limit and your current speed. But I hate that with Android Auto enabled, you can't use the phone app to get a new address to navigate to - the app on the phone is completely disabled. You can be parked with the engine off, but connected to android auto, and that means you can't do anything in the app on your phone. Other apps don't behave like this, so it's a deliberate choice, and it breaks a lot of potential functionality.

I used this for the first time on an Android Auto screen on the motorbike (Go Ride isn't compatible with Android Auto, sadly). It worked very well. It was useful to get a view of the upcoming road and to keep an eye on the speed limits and any speed scameras. It would be nice to have a few more features, such as the ability to record a route, add waypoints, etc. Also, personally, I'd like a little more contrast on the map.

Dropping my review all the way down to 1 star. When I pointed out the trip progress line across the bottom of my screen no longer shows upcoming traffic, the response was to clear cache and make sure permissions are allowed. So basically putting the blame on me. I did all that, even double checked settings and reinstalled. STILL NO TRAFFIC showing up on the line across the bottom of the screen. Stop blaming the user and fix your app.

I wanted to like the app but after trying it locally, it gave several lots of very confusing directions which would have resulted in me going the wrong way numerous times, so I can't trust it in an area I don't know. At one point, it also tried to direct me, off left, through an industrial estate instead of straight on the dual carriageway and left at the roundabout, what's that about, I want to use the main road not some random cut through?

This app is promising. I'm looking for a Google maps replacement. if you can completely plan a trip beforehand, great. 1. I don't see where I can add stops along the way towards a destination. This means planning and storing a lot of smaller trips. 2. I am unable to use a phrase like, "near me", which is a very valuable function. I would like to be able to say, "this store, near me", while I am driving but using voice. 3. Would like to "resume".

This has options that Google maps does not. You get 4 choices of how your route is created. You can favor travel time, distance driven, saving fuel, or make it more "thrilling." The type of route a driving app gives you is one of the most important things to me! That makes it a great alternative to the pre installed maps app.

This was a good navigation app until one of the recent updates. Now for some reason it directs me to the HOV lane each day. Not only can I not use that because I don't have enough people in my car it is also a toll lane if you don't have enough people. Please tell me if there is somewhere I'm not seeing to turn off the HOV routing. Completely ruins the ETAs.

the app will get you from point A to point B no problem but I think for it being from Tom Tom, it's missing some modern features. First, I like how it displays the route shield which is easier to follow, but sometimes if you get on a divided highway, it won't give you the direction (i.e I-81 N). Also, there is no lane monitor for exits like most other apps do. Overall, the idea is great but I think if they add these features, then it would be better.

They screwed up the Android Auto experience. Can't navigate or get speed limit without putting in a destination. Can't adjust the speed warning margin. Also it doesn't register with Android as a navigation app, so can't click on an address and navigate. Also doesn't give the ability to plan a drive between two locations other than where I'm at right now.
