Reviews for Trainline: Train travel Europe

← Back to Trainline: Train travel Europe

Just recently (last couple weeks) the "My Tickets" tab takes a very long time to load up. It will be stuck spinning saying "loading your bookings" for over a minute and if you restart the app thinking it's broken it will do the same thing. Very frustrating and makes me consider actually using the app if tickets won't load. edit: tried to uninstall as the response said, but this didn't resolve the issue. It often gets hung up when trying to view my purchased tickets

Bought a ticket in their website and only got an email with a ticket that says "Not valid for travel". Basically had to install the app to get my ticket... Fortunately, it was a smooth experience with the ticket being automatically fetched from using the same email. So some credit to them, it would have been a decent experience if it had been voluntary.

Good app, some substantial things missing: 1) when a train is delayed, the journey/connecting trains do not update to reflect the new situation, the journey just shows the original connection times upon booking. 2) If a train is delayed or cancelled, there is no "alternative route available" button (if someone has paid for all routes permissible). 3) A train's current position could be clearer (or more expansive), such as a - tappable - train picture/icon on the route (the earlier stops).

Unable to buy tickets, even on the website. Kicks you off with a message that there are no tickets available (even when I selected several different departures times) or the internet connection is not good enough (even though I have tried using WiFi and 5G). Each time I try to go back on a buy a ticket for a train tickets within minutes of eachother, the price keeps going up! Tried uninstalling and reinstalling a few times. Restarting my phone. Clearing app cache. This app is terrible.

Fails to Complete Purchase, Every Time. I can search for and choose the trains I want, but every time I'm about to purchase the tickets, an error sends me back to the beginning. The website works much better, but doesn't include discounts you can only get using the app. I communicated my dissatisfaction to Trainline a month ago, but nothing has been done.

WHAT HAVE YOU DONE?! This app used to be brilliant and informative - now when I book a ticket and click "view journey" I no longer have the train times (departure or arrival) or platform numbers which is nightmare for journeys with changes. I mean that's like the most important information a traveller needs! do I have just 5 minutes to rush to a far platform or can I have a comfort break and a coffee?! *Update* info shows on the day of travel only not great for forward planning. Change it back!

the new update has frustrated me. after booking your tickets, you used to be able to press 'view journey' to see the timings of your changes. this is mo longer possible and it instead tells me about split save and my ticket conditions. if I wanted to see that, I would've pressed 'view tickets'. this is quite irritating as now I have to search the journey to see the timings.

The new update is pointless change for the sake of change. The app was fine, but now the search tab takes you to an unintuitive "favourites" style page but the information is tiny as half the page is taken up by an advert. Clicking anywhere other than the tiny "view more trains" text just takes you to a page trying to get you to buy a ticket or a holiday. Just unfriendly UI, clearly designed for advertising, takes far longer to just get to the old search page showing all the info. Pure greed.

The app for whatever reason stopped sending me notifications. All notifications are allowed so I don't know why I have to keep checking the app if there is a change to the journey I'm tracking. It used to just pop up in my notifications if my train is delayed or the platform changes. What's the point in tracking a journey then?

One of *the* best apps. I used to dislike the booking fee but realise it's worth it given how convenient is (but please don't put prices up!). For UK national rail it's super easy and tells you if QR code will work on your journey. The game changer for me is the ease of booking international journeys across Europe, including by night train. It is also good at saving and applying railcards. Sometimes if the journey is too complex, you do need to search in segments.

What have you do e to this App. It used to be simple to use now you've made it guess work as the train you think you've booked doesn't pull through and ends up near enough being the same time as your return train which isn't what was wanted. Seat booking has given 2 seats in different carriages on the outbound and any between 8 seat numbers on the return. Days are numbered using this, doesn't default to the search page on opening instead wants to give me some random journey elsewhere.

Edit: No means to contact customer service without transaction ID! Money taken from my bank account card through PayPal leaving me unable to buy my ticket because the only money in my account was just enough to pay the ticket cost. I attempted 2x to purchase the ticket and now have 2 payments showing up for £1 on my bank card, but not through PayPal! Something feels very off and fraudulent about this! Plus I couldn't by my tickets. I am unlikely to continue using Trainlines app after this!

Simple return journey between two UK cities. I put in the dates of travel at the beginning and they were correct. The app stalled "Trainline is not responding" at the payment stage, so I had to reopen it. Using a different payment method on second attempt I managed to complete the purchase. When I checked the tickets, only SECONDS later, I saw the return date was incorrect. Presumably the glitch had caused that. Trainline did enable me to change it, but charged me £25 for correcting their error!

At some point the last few months, something went wrong with this app. I can use it once, and it would work nicely, but from then onwards, when I want to buy tickets again, I get an "Something went wrong error", and the only way to fix it is by uninstalling and re-installing the app (android). Extremely dissapointing. UPDATE: Workaround applied. Phone upgraded. App updated many times. Still doesn't work after the first use. Switched to Uber trains

incredibly glitchy app. very unintuitive. most functions - including creating an account!!!!!!! - don't work. whenever I tried to use these options it gave an error message saying "something's off track. try again later"...perhaps they should've spent more time on development and less on comedy. you'll be able to book a ticket - hopefully - but it will be an infuriating experience.

I used to love this app, and now, I face it with irritation... in previous app versions, when I bought a ticket, I could go to My Tickets, click on the View Journey CTA for the relevant ticket and precise timings and platform information would come up, just like when you search for journeys. Now I'm getting zero info on platforms and have to click through multiple search walls before I find my journey's RELEVANT info... Will change this review if the app once again becomes customer centric...

User interface is not optimal, also I don't understand why that simple app needs ~400 MB of storage. Additionally, at least for the BlaBlaCar coaches - either their integration is so bad, or they deliberately scam people by selling tickets knowing the bus can't make it: shortly after the purchase I received a notification that my bus was 59 min late - meaning they pretty much knew it in advance! - I had to buy another ticket and of course my first one was non-refundable.

Update Sept 25 Came back and it was fine for a while. However recent meddling has made it terribly slow and unreliable. It keeps failing when getting to payments or adding tickets to Wallet. Also the interface just keeps getting more cumbersome. More buttons. More scrolling. More splash screens. Infuriating!

The last update that was made on 18/09/25 has made the app unusable. No longer allows you to buy a ticket. I've had to download the app for just my local train providers, which I'll probably just stick with, since they don't charge a booking fee and it's very rarely I need to travel further afield to benefit from the Trainline's split save feature.

Have had a tough time with the application. First ticket I bought with them led me to a train that never arrived. Tracker insisted it had arrived a left. But the station even told me the train had been cancelled. I was never refunded. The second ticket indicated the platform to go to was 5; I ended up on the wrong train. As I write this message the tracker shows it going in a direction the train did not go. This is the first time I've ever had to write a review.
